This Fair Isle sample is worked in stranded knitting using Shetland, jumper weight wool and US #2, double-pointed sock needles. This garment is knit in the round. Following the chart The chart represents 1/2 of the garment so that each round is knit by following each chart line twice. Read the chart bottom-to-top, right-to-left commencing with START HERE. Since the front and back are worked differently above the armholes, follow the dark squares for the front then the dark and light squares for the back.

st on holder
Above the armholes When the stitches for the armholes and V-neck are placed on a holder (use a scrap of yarn), cast on 7 sts, in pattern, to create steeks. A steek is a way to knit a facing for these 3 openings and allows you to continue knitting in-the-round. Finish the top of the garment as follows: For each round: Knit 7 steek stitches in pattern, 1/2 of the front, 7 steek sts, other 1/2 of front, 7 steek sts, back sts. Work decreases where the chart shows a stair step by SSK or K2tog using the dark edge stitch of the steek in the decrease. Finishing: On last round, bind off steek sts. Single crochet the steeks where shown on chart by catching half of the light st and half of the dark stitch on each row. Cut between the crocheted rows where indicated by a dashed line. Kitchner Stitch the shoulders together where indicated by a Work attached I-cord around the armholes and neck edge on the dark edge sts of the steek using the same color. Tack steeks down loosely inside hiding the cut edges. Block Vest.
