Belt Dryer
The SWISS COMBI Belt Dryer is able to use low temperature heat of other processes (e.g. cogeneration of power and heat) as heat source. A variety of organic bulky materials like saw dust, wood chips, bark, sugar-beet pulp or grass can be gently dried. Due to the low drying temperatures no substantial gaseous emissions, like volatile organic compounds, occur. Hence, the valuable lignin does not evaporate from the processed woody biomass and remains in the output product as natural binding agent for the subsequent pellet or briquette process. The reliable technology of the SWISS COMBI Belt Dryer is well established and easy to maintain and operate. The belt dryer is a modular construction and designed for transport in standard trucks and sea-containers.

The wet material (1) is distributed by the feeding screw (2) as an even product layer over the whole width of the drying belt. The moisture content of the dry product at the discharge (5) is measured and controls the throughput by adjusting the belt speed. The high efficiency low noise axial fan (7) draws the ambient air through the heat exchangers (6), the product layer and the belt and blows it almost saturated to the atmosphere. To minimize the electrical power consumption the fan speed is controlled according to the required capacity or the available heat. The product layer is conveyed through the drying tunnel before being discharged into the first discharge screw (3). Via an inclined screw conveyor, the pre-dried product is returned to the second feeding screw (4) into the drying tunnel as a second and upper layer. Between the second feeding screw and the end of the dryer the warm air streams first trough the predried product and saturates then in the lower wetter product layer. By working with a two-layer system, optimal saturation of the exhaust air at relatively low pressure drop is reached, resulting in maximal heat efficiency and minimal electrical power consumption. The now dried upper part of the layer is scraped-off by the discharge screw (5) for further processing. To secure a clean belt for a continuous operation, a rotating cleaning brush (8) as well as automated belt cleaning system (9) with low water consumption is installed. The SWISS COMBI Belt Dryer has a range of 2 20 tons per hour water evaporation and enables a continuous drying to 10% final water content, or if required down to 2%. Due to the modular construction additional modules can be retrofitted later in time to increase capacity. Various (low Advantages: temperature) heat sources such as hot water, low pressure steam or warm air are applicable. Utilization of low temperature heat Low level of emission, no further exhaust air treatment necessary Careful drying for highest product quality Low electrical power consumption Automated operation High availability Low maintenance cost For a large variety of free flowing products
