New or Changed Features

The following features are new or changed in this release. 3.1.2.1. Burden Cost Calculation Override Extension This new client extension provides the ability to override the way the burden cost is calculated for each burden cost code. The extension is called when burden costs are calculated for project plans, budgets, forecasts, and expenditure items. A single PL/SQL procedure contains the custom logic to ensure the amounts for each burden cost code are calculated appropriately. Sample use cases for which this client extension could be leveraged include: A fixed rate should be applied based on the quantity of the specific transaction, instead of a multiple of the raw cost. For example, you need to apply a fee based on the number of hours worked, as opposed to the salary that a particular individual receives. In this case the burden cost equation becomes Raw Cost + (Quantity * Burden Rate). Under certain conditions, a specific cost code should not be included, or the multiplier needs to be overridden. For example, some or all cost codes must not be applied after the actual cost for a specific project reaches a certain limit. A project or task level multiplier for a specific cost code is defined in a descriptive flexfield and should be used instead of the multiplier defined on the burden schedule.

3.1.2.2. Test Burden Cost Calculation The Test Burden Cost Calculations page is a useful tool that allows new burden schedules or schedule versions to be tested for accuracy. The page accepts the key attributes of a transaction; such as the project, task, expenditure type, organization, date and raw cost amount, and displays how burden costs would be calculated. Several enhancements are added to make this page more robust and usable. You can select a specific burden schedule to test. This could be used in place of entering a project and task, or for overriding the actual burden schedule with a planning burden schedule. You can enter the quantity of a transaction so the Burden Cost Calculation Override Extension can used to determine burden costs based on the quantity. The fixed date on firm burden schedules is used in place of the transaction date when determining the burden schedule version.

You can access the Test Burden Cost Calculation page from the Task pane in Projects work area.

3.1.2.3. View Burden Cost Details Having a breakout of the burden cost components provides useful information to project managers as they plan and control their projects. Prior to this release, a breakout of the burden cost was not available within the context of the project plan, budget, or forecast. In this release, several enhancements are available to provide visibility to the burden cost by burden cost component: You can display the burden cost details in the context of a resource assignments details for a selected task. You can display the burden cost details in the context of an expenditure item.
