Gin
Gin is one of the most popular types of spirits available around the world and is distinctive from other varieties of alcoholic beverages due to the use of juniper berries as a common flavoring ingredient. Even though gin seems like a simple spirit to create, it is easy to see that producers all over the world use different types of stills, different methods of distillation and an amazing array of herbal ingredients to produce this resilient and popular alcoholic drink.
Rum
Rum is undoubtedly substantial in terms of volume and breadth of markets, but has tended to lag behind other categories, such as Scotch, in terms of its international and premium development. For a long time Bacardi was the only true international brand.
Beer
Every drinker is bound to have his or her favorite brand of beer. The glass that gives them a relaxing feeling and adds to their personality becomes their brand of beer.
Wine
Wine is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented fruit juice, usually that of grapes. The natural chemical balance of grapes lets them ferment without the addition of sugars, acids, enzymes, water, or other nutrients
Whisky
Whisky or whiskey is a type of distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash. Different grains are used for different varieties, including barley, malted barley, rye, malted rye, wheat, and corn. Whisky is typically aged in wooden casks, made generally of charred white oak. Whisky is a strictly regulated spirit worldwide with many classes and types. The typical unifying characteristics of the different classes and types are the fermentation of grains, distillation, and aging in wooden barrels.
Brandy
Brandy is a spirit produced by distilling wine. Brandy generally contains 3560%alcohol by volume (70120 US proof) and is typically taken as an after-dinner drink. Some brandies are aged in wooden casks, while some are simply coloured with caramel colouring to imitate the effect of such aging (and some brandies are produced using a combination of both aging and colouring). Brandy is also produced from fermented fruits other than grapes, but these products are typically named eaux-de-vie. In some countries, fruit flavouring or some other flavouring may be added to a spirit that is called "brandy".
Vodka
Vodka is a clear almost flavorless spirit, is usually thought of as the national spirit of Russia and other Slavic countries. Both Russia and Poland claim the invention of vodka and explain that the name is a diminutive of the word voda, meaning little water. Slavic countries have been producing vodka for more than 600 years. Originally vodka was distilled only from potatoes but today it is also made from grain, mostly wheat, rye and corn. Vodka are distilled at a very high proof (190 or higher) and are filtered through activated charcoal.
Aperitifs
The aperitif was born in Europe and travelled to the United States later around the beginning of 1900's. There is no definite evidence indicating the origin of the aperitif but origins can be found in the biblical days of ancient Egypt. An aperitif is a before-dinner drink to stimulate the appetite. The term originates from the Latin word, 'apertitiuvum indicating 'opener.
Tequila
There is an old legend behind the creation of tequila. The Aztec people of Mexico witnessed a bolt of lightning strike an Agave plant. These people called this plant as octli, that later on came to be known as pulque. This caused the liquid inside the plant to boil and after it cooled down, these tribesmen tasted the nectar from the pina. They loved the taste of the liquid and quickly duplicated the process. They boiled and fermented the plant and the cooked pinas were pressed for the liquid. This process still continues since the prehispanic ages and the unique drink is known as tequila.
Liqueurs
A liqueur is an alcoholic beverage made from distilled alcohol that has been flavored with fruit, cream, herbs, spices, flowersor nuts and bottled with added sugar. Liqueurs are typically quite sweet; they are usually not aged for long but may have resting periods during their production to allow flavors to marry. In the United States, where spirits are often called "liquor", there is often confusion over liqueurs and liquors, especially as many spirits today are available in flavored form (e.g. flavored vodka). The most reliable rule of thumb is that liqueurs are quite sweet and often syrupy in consistency, while liquors are not.

Liqueur is an alcoholic beverage made from distilled alcohol that has been flavored with fruit, cream, herbs, spices, flowers or nuts and bottled with added sugar. Liqueurs are sweetened spirits with various flavors, oils, and extracts. Liqueur alcohol content can range from a low 15 percent (30 proofs) to 55 percent (110 proofs), so potency is not a distinguishing factor. Rum, whiskey, brandy, and other liquors can serve as a base spirit for liqueurs. Cream liqueurs have cream added, while crme liqueurs are much sweeter, likened to potent syrup. Our ancestors referred to liqueurs as cordials, and they were often used medicinally. Grand Marnier is a delicious example of an orange liqueur which makes a flavorful ingredient in many recipes. Liquor is an alcoholic beverage made of grains or other plants which is fermented into a potent drink. Although sugar is generally used in the fermentation process, the resulting liquor is not sugary sweet. Liquors are nowadays available in flavored forms, but they are not sweet to the palate. The flavor is usually added after distilling through a steeping process, much like vinegars and oils are infused. The difference between liqueur and liquor is not that simple because many spirits available are in a flavored form; the most reliable guide to classification is liqueurs contain added sugar, but liquors or spirits do not.
