GROUP DISCUSION
A GD will be of 15 minutes duration. Each Team have a maximum of 6-10 members. GD is a means to assess ones overall personality and different skills. The seating arrangementcould be semi-circular, or circular, or seating along side a rectangular table, depending upon the venue. GDs can be topic-based . Topic based GDs can be classified into three types

General Topics

II

Controversial Topics

III

Abstract Topics

1. General topics: Generaltopics are about practical things, which an ordinary person is aware of in his day-to-day life. Typically these are about socio-economic topics. These can be current, i.e. they may have been in the news lately, or could be unbound by time. A general topic for discussion gives a candidate a chance to prove that he is aware of and to his environment. E.g. Indian Railways, Telangana Issue 2. Controversial topics: These are the ones that are argumentative in nature. They are meant to generate controversy. In GDs where these topics are given for discussion, the noise level is usually high, there may be tempers flying. The idea behind giving a topic like this is to see how much maturity the candidate is displaying by keeping his temper in check, by rationally and logically arguing his point of view without getting personal and emotional. E.g. Reservations should be removed, GDs as a means of selection by the IIMs are a farce, Women make better managers, Relegion& Politics 3. Abstract topics: Abstract topics are about intangible things. These topics are not given often for discussion, but their possibility cannot be ruled out. These topics test your lateral thinking and creativity, Just think in a creative manner and start a vivid group discussion with one of these abstract topics to talk about: E.g. When red meets red, Twinkle twinkle little star, Virtue has its own reward, the number 1.very short

Stories
Life is Beautiful
A teacher once arranged a painting competition. The theme was LIFE IS BEATIFUL. Whoever could capture the true meaning and beauty of life in a painting would win. On day of competition, three paintings were selected to the final round. First one was a painting of Calmlake. The lake was a perfect mirror for the peaceful mountains surrounding the lake. Over head was a blue sky with fully white clouds. There was a beautiful home on the top of mountain where a perfect family lived happily. All who saw this picture thought that it perfectly captured the beauty of a peaceful life. Second one was a picture of jungle. There were green trees, blue sky, beautiful water fall, birds and animals in the jungle. There stood a lion roaring gloriously. Everyone who saw the picture said the lion was fearless and courage in life, the beauty of living life fearless. Third one was a picture of mountain that was rugged and bare. Above was a dark sky from which rain fell and which lightening played. There was a foaming angry waterfall below. Behind the waterfall a tiny bush grew in the crack of rock. In the plant a mother bird build her nest. There in the midst of the barren rock, rush of angry water, dark sky and storm sat the mother bird, holding to her nest. This did not look beautiful at all. The teacher gave the first prize to the third picture. When everyone asked why, she explained, Beauty of life does not lie in perfection. Peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise or trouble. Peace means to be a midst of chaos and still be calm in your spirit. Courage does not mean the absence of fear but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear. The courage is not roaring with power and dominating others when you are unchallenged. Courage means not to give up when life challenges you. Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass. It is about learning to dance in the rain. Thats the true meaning and beauty of life.

All is Well
Once upon a time there was a king by name Pharoah. He ruled the kingdom greatly. He loved to do adventures. Every weekend he uses to visit new places. He waited for the weekend to come. When he was about to go, his friend named Peter came to meet him. Then the king just thought to take Peter with him. His friend agreed and they both went to a forest with their servant which was very dangerous. There they stayed at a place which is at the middle of the forest.

His friend was cutting fruits and was giving to king and also to the servants. Neither the king nor his servants knew how to cu the fruits so king decided to learn from his friend and took the knife to cut, suddenly he cut his finger and the king was full of sorrow at that time his friend Peter was laughing and saying ALL IS WELL. King got very angry and shouted here Im in pain and you are saying ALL IS WELL and said to the servants that make a pit and throw him inside. The servants did that. Peter was thrown into the pit and even then he was jumping and saying ALL IS WELL, ALL IS WELL. King did not understand. Then suddenly the forest people came to that place, they were dangerous people. When they came, the servants got escaped and the jungle people were not able to see Peter as he was in the pit and took the king to their place to offer to their god by killing him. King was very frightened and thought that his life was over but his finger was damaged. They wont give damaged one to their god so they left the king to go. The king went to the Peter and confessed to that Peter whatever he said was correct ALL IS WELL. What ever happen to us is good and for our sake only. Moral: So students by this we say that we may have many troubles and many things happening to have many troubles and many things happening to us. Which we wont expect and which we dont like to happen but everything happens for our good only even if bad happens they will teach us a lesson, that can be rectified next time. So think positively and be in the positive way because ALL IS WELL.

My blessings are mined alone, since I was the one who prayed for them. The first man answered. Hid prayers were unanswered and so he does not deserve anything. You are mistaken! She voice rebuked him. He had only one prayer. Which I answered if not for that. You would not have received any of my blessings. Tell me. The first man asked the voice. What did he pray for that I should owe him anything? He prayed all your prayers be answered. Moral: For all we know, our blessings are not fruits of our prayers alone, but those of another praying for us. Value your Friends, didnt leave your loved ones behind.

The Farmer and the Sparrows

Maniappa was a farmer. He worked from dawn to dusk in his field. Amidst the crops in the field, a sparrow lived with their mother happily. Days passed by and the harvesting season fast approached. The corns were ripe. And everywhere people started their harvests. The little sparrows said to their mother, Mummy! We will have to fly away. The mother sparrow replied, Not so soon babies! The farmer is not ready. One day, they heard the farmer saying, I must call my neighbors and make them do the harvest. The little sparrows said, Mummy! Tonight we shall flyaway. The mother said, No soon babies. The farmer wont make it. The words of the mother came true. The neighbors did not turn up the next day. The farmer was heard saying, I will call my relatives and make them do the harvest. This time also the little ones wanted to flyaway. But the mother asked them to relax. Once again, the words of the mother come true. Now, they heard the farmer saying Tomorrow I will do the harvest myself. On hearing these words, the mother said, come my children it is time for us to leave this field. Moral: Self-help is always respected.

The Ship of Friendship

A voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of the men on it were able to swim to a small desert like island. The two survivors who have been good friends not knowing what else to do, agreed that they had no other recourse but pray to God. However to find out whose prayer was more powerful. They agreed t decide the territory between them and stay on opposite sides of the island. The first thing they prayed for was food. The next morning the first man saw a fruit bearing tree on his side of mans parcel of land remained barren. After a week, the first man was lonely and he decided to pray for a wife. The next day another ship was wrecked and the only survivor was a woman who swam to his side of the land. On the other side of the island there was nothing. Soon the first man prayed for a ship. So that he and his wife could leave the island in the morning. He found a ship docked at his side of The Island. The first man boarded the ship with his wife and decided to leave the second man on the island. He considered the other man unworthy to receive Gods blessings since none of prayers had been answered. As the ship was about to leave, the first man heard of a wise from heaven booming. why are you leaving your companion on The Island?.

The Cracked Pot

A Wonderful Inspirational Story
A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on each end of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, and while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the masters house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water in his masters house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do. After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream. I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologize to you. Why? asked the bearer. What are you ashamed of? I have been able, for these past two years, to deliver only half my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your masters house. Because of my flaws, you have to do all of this work, and you dont get full value from your efforts, the pot said. The water bearer felt sorry for the old cracked pot, and in his compassion he said, As we return to the masters house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the path. Indeed, as they went up the hill, the old cracked pot took notice of the sun warming the beautiful wild flowers on the side of the path, and this cheered it some. But at the end of the trail, it still felt bad because it had leaked out half its load, and so again the pot apologized to the bearer for its failure. The bearer said to the pot, Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of your path, but not on the other pots side? Thats because I have always known about your flaw, and I took advantage of it. I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back from the stream, youve watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate my masters table. Without you being just the way you are, he would not have this beauty to grace his house.

He then asked, Who still wants it? Still the hands were up in the air. Well, he replied, What if I do this? And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now all crumpled and dirty. Now who still wants it? Still the hands went into the air. My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth Rs20. Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. You are special - Dont ever forget it!

In a village there is a old man who is illiterate and well honored by everybody due to the things he did for the village. In the same village there is a young man who is well educated even though, not honored by anyone. The young man is jealous with that old person because of the respect given by the villagers on the old man. One day he decides to make shame on the old person and took a small bird in his hands. Young man: Dear sir, I have a bird in my hands tell me whether it is dead or alive. Old man: Dear son, if I say the bird is alive then you will press your hands and bird is died. If I say the bird is dead then you will release your hands and the bird is flew away. Moral: Every body has his future in his hands.

you perform whatever you have decided to do. An important fact to note is that all success is accomplished through the exercise of ones will power. Concentration and Willpower are two undisputed faculties of the mind for success in any field. But, A mind with concentration and more willpower are useful to succeed in any field, but to get on in a business field and to attract people. A creative mind is needed to every engineer. Creativity is nothing but identifying unique things and makes them attractively. Now a days people are going towards the new, stylish, attractive and creative things. So an Engineer should have a creative mind along with willpower and concentration.

Creativity: Creativity is discovering something that is novel and unique but also useful or
relevant or economical or elegant or valuable. The product or outcome of a creative effort must be both significant and strikingly different form the beaten track. Creativity may also be identified with openness in expressing feelings, receptivity to ideas, concern for others, desire to grow as a person and actualize ones potential as a human being. Those who have high IQ scores are not necessarily creative and vice-versa. A creative person often thinks the unthinkable and does the undoable. Most creative people are mad about pursuing the truth with the desire to produce something useful to society. The Creative Process consists of four overlapping stages: a) Preparation. b) Incubation.

c) Illumination. d) Verification. Preparation involves the investigation of the problem in all direction. Incubation is letting go of the problem by the conscious mind and allowing it to ferment below the level of consciousness. Illumination is being struck by a solution in a Eureka like experience. Verification is the evaluation or verification of the solution. An interesting point noted by researches is that creative ideas, weather in the arts or the sciences, frequently occur only after very hard labor at the problem.

A friend is someone who cherishes the special moments and memories of life with another person. A friend is a trustworthy companion. Friendship is a relationship which takes time to build. There are many steps and stages to achieve a true friendship. However, one can think building a friendship is like planting a garden. For many people, planting a garden represents devotion and leisure. It takes patience to grow a garden, frustrations and hardships are also involved in the process. Firstly the seed is planted. The seed builds the foundation of a strong and stable plant. It has to be taken care of and watered daily. Then the shoots starts sprouting, the plant is finally flourishing. One can see day by day the garden maturing. Then one day the garden starts to Witt, its dying. One has to tend to it and have the patience & determination to bring it back to life. But hard work & devotion regains the gardens beauty and gives it life again. Soon a shoots blossoms a bloom into beautiful flowers. Building a friendship has similar characteristics. One meets a person and plants the seed of friendship. The friendship builds and continues to grow stronger. It requires devotion of time and patience to achieve peak communication between the two companions. The struggle to keep a solid friendship includes many obstacles and hardships. But compromising, devotion & the willingness to endure is bound a payoff in the end. A Bernard Wolf quotes, It takes a long time to grow an older friendship. Friendship has its good and bad times. There comes a time when the relationship is just not working. It is preoccupied with disagreements and quarrels. It is on the verge of destruction. One must have the patience to deal with such frustrations. The willingness and determination to get the relationship working again come within. Compromising and persistence rebuilds the friendship and is once again re-established. As Socrates and said, Be slow to fall into friendship, but when you are in, continue firm & constant. The friendship is blooming and is finally on its peak. Its great to have a strong and stable relationship which allows the companions to share the joys and memories of life together. If building a friendship can be compared to planting a garden the perhaps some of its frustrations and problems can be better understood. The true meaning of friendship is achieved by understanding its relatively to planting a garden. A person who builds a friendship as planting a garden can overcome obstacles of it very easily. A best friend is . . . Some people come in to our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while & leave foot prints on our hearts. What is a Best Friend? Almost everyone has one and almost everyone is one. Theres something about a best friend that cannot be duplicated. Everyone has their own definition of what their own best friend is like and what an impact he or she has made in their life. A best friend is a title held for the few and privileged. The term cannot be thrown around loosely. Not just anyone can be called your best friend. A best friend has to first meet several qualifications and have many outstanding characteristics to have the honor of holding such a prestigious title. Being a best friend is more than someone that youve seen every day and grown up with. A best friend can be someone with whom youve known since childhood but can also be someone that youve just met, and similar to Love at First Sight, you just click with. The true definition

of a best friend is someone that knows you inside out. The more effort and persistence put into them the more-stronger and accomplished. Determine a friend finding out what someone really is can be a very difficult thing to do. Character determination of a friend can be based on three things, honesty, trust, conflicts, and how they are resolved. Honesty is key and if you are talking about a friendship thats true. If you dont have honesty you dont have anything to base your relationship on. Being honest to a good friend should be subconscious, and if its not then they are consider them as a good friend. You should have to struggle with a friend everlasting happiness can be, to be honest.

Ann Landers Maturity is the ability to make a decision and stand by it. Immature people spend their lives exploring endless possibilities and then doing nothing. Action requires courage. Without courage, little is accomplished. Maturity is the ability to harness your abilities and your energies and do more than is expected. The mature person refuses to settle for mediocrity. He/she would rather aim high and miss the mark than low-and make it. Maturity is the art of living in peace with that which cannot be changed, the courage to change that which should be changed, no matter what it takes, and the wisdom to know the difference.

SUCCESS DEPENDS ON MATURITY

Maturity is many things. It is the ability to base a judgment on the big picture, the long haul. It means being able to resist the urge for immediate gratification and opt for the course of action that will pay off later. One of the characteristics of the young is I want it now. Grown-up people can wait. Maturity is perseverancethe ability to sweat out a project or a situation, in spite of heavy opposition and discouraging setbacks, and stick with it until it is finished. The adult who is constantly changing friends and changing mates is immature. He/she cannot stick it out because he/she has not grown up. Maturity is the ability to control anger and settle differences without violence or destruction. The mature person can face unpleasantness, frustration, discomfort and defeat without collapsing or complaining. He/she knows he cannot have everything his/her own way every time. He/she is able to defer to circumstances, to other people-and to time. He/she knows when to compromise and is not too proud to do so. Maturity is humility. It is being big enough to say, I was wrong. And, when he/she is right, the mature person need not experience the satisfaction of saying, I told you so. Maturity is the ability to live up to your responsibilities, and this means being dependable. It means keeping your word. Dependability is the hallmark of integrity. Do you mean what you say-and do you say what you mean? Unfortunately, the world is filled with people who cannot be counted on. When you need them most, they are among the missing. They never seem to come through in the clutches. They break promises and substitute alibis for performance. They show up late or not at all. They are confused and disorganized. Their lives are a chaotic maze of broken promises, former friends, unfinished business and good intentions that somehow never materialize. They are always a day late and a dollar short.

You Are Unique

Think what a remarkable, unduplicatable, and miraculous thing it is to be you! Of all the people who have come and gone on the earth, since the beginning of time, not ONE of them is like YOU! No one who has ever lived or is to come has had your combination of abilities, talents, appearance, friends, acquaintances, burdens, sorrows and opportunities. No ones hair grows exactly the way yours does. No ones finger prints are like yours. No one has the same combination of secret inside jokes and family expressions that you know. The few people who laugh at all the same things you do, dont sneeze the way you do. No one prays about exactly the same concerns as you do. No one is loved by the same combination of people that love you NO ONE! No one before, no one to come. YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY UNIQUE! Enjoy that uniqueness. You do not have to pretend in order to seem more like someone else. You werent meant to be like someone else. You do not have to lie to conceal the parts of you that are not like what you see in anyone else. You were meant to be different. Nowhere ever in all of history will the same things be going on in anyones mind, soul and spirit as are going on in yours right now. If you did not exist, there would be a hole in creation, a gap in history, something missing from the plan for humankind. Treasure your uniqueness. It is a gift given only to you. Enjoy it and share it! No one can reach out to others in the same way that you can. No one can speak your words.

No one can convey your meanings. No one can comfort with your kind of comfort. No one can bring your kind of understanding to another person. No one can be cheerful and lighthearted and joyous in your way. No one can smile your smile. No one else can bring the whole unique impact of you to another human being. Share your uniqueness. Let it be free to flow out among your family and friends and people you meet in the rush and clutter of living wherever you are. That gift of yourself was given you to enjoy and share. Give yourself away! See it! Receive it! Let it tickle you! Let it inform you and nudge you and inspire you! YOU ARE UNIQUE!

K Yeswanth, III/IV B.Tech CSE-I, 10491A0560

Essay
Reported below is an essay written by a student on the topic COW. This was printed in the Kolkata-based daily, The Telegraph. Read it to understand the funniest part of creativity. Q: Write an essay on The Cow. Answer: The cow is a successful animal than ox, because she is a female. She gives milk, but it only when he got child. She is same like God to Hindus and useful to man. Answer: - 6 Explanation: - The numbers in each row and column add up to 15. Which number replaces the question mark? He got four legs, two are forward and two are afterwards. The whole body can be utilized. Ghee, Butter, Curd and condensed milk come from cow. His motion is slow because of his bure body. His other motion is used as fertilizer and flat cake in hand and drying the sun. Cow is only animal than again eats its feeding after eating with his teeth whom are situated inside the mouth. She got tails in which there are hairs. It frightens the flies on his body with the hairs on the tails. I am sure! You had a good laugh. But writing this piece itself is an act of wonderful creativity. Another funniest part of creativity: My cousin Swapna was appearing for her 10th standard half yearly examinations in our school. When she saw the question paper, she could not answer anything. Promptly, he handed over the answer book with this remark: God only knows the answers to these questions. Answer: - 16 Explanation: - Starting bottom left and moving clockwise around the triangle, numbers follow the sequence of square numbers. After evaluation, the returned the answer book to Swapna the next day. The answer book had a message on it, God gets the first rank. You fail. All the best. Sounds very funny, but, that was the creativity of students and teachers during our school days. We need to develop this faculty by continuously working at various puzzles and solving problems. Every Engineer must be a Creator.

Now you are completing the Graduation in Computer Science Engineering field, you have many job opportunities in Government as well as in Private sector and if you have interested in higher studies, then you can get in to those. Now the student stands in cross roads .should I choose the higher studies or should I go with the job. No one has had ever designed the road for success.here I am not trying to tell what is good to choose, I am trying to evaluate different opportunities that are available which can weigh differently with each individuals ideas and goals in life. Simply put, with so much happening so quickly most of us dont know what to do. Taking the aspects like parental pressure, peer pressure, Environmental and social norms, the issue (i.e. your career decision) gets all them more complicated. Another very crucial need also exists and that is an opportunity to identify and then develop those traits of your personality, which with respect to todays scenario is absolutely necessary irrespective of ones profession. Some of these traits are the ability to work in teams, leadership, creativity, communication skills etc. This simply means that definitely a need for one to go through a process, which will not only enlighten and inform the individual with respect to the various career options, but will also be a journey of discovery of ones own interests, aptitude and personality which are the very crucial components of any career decision. Added to this, one also needs to identify areas of personal development and needs to work on them before embarking on his/her career roadmap. So, it is necessary for one to decide their career, keeping individuals ambitions and goals in life with perspective of reality.

WHAT TO DO!!!
There are two options you prefer after you complete your B.Tech degree. Based on your interest and goal you may choose either job or further studies. if (You are interested in FURTHER STUDIES) { You should opt streams like: M.Tech / M.E / M.S / MBA etc., } else if { Job oppurtunities in companies like: Accenture / Cognizant / TCS / HCL / Satyam / Wipro / IBM etc., } else if { Other Areas like: Bussiness / Sports / Artists etc., }

GRE:
The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a standardized test that is an admissions requirement for many Graduate schools in foreign countries. It is created and administrated by the EducationalTestingService (ETS) and is similar in format and content to the SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test). Generally it is an online based test. The percentile scored in this exam will decide your future in doing M.S. in foreign nations. From August2011, GRE pattern has changed. Here are some of the changes to be featured on the GRE after August1, 2011: The team of new GRE pattern 2011 say it is the largest revision in the history of GRE, which is about 60 years, They say it is the changes in the demographics of the test takers, technology changes, etc, have lead to this revision and they are really excited about the changes to the GRE format. Some of them say it is thoughtful, better by design and revolution. The below reasons are my thoughts after reviewing all the material and watching videos on ETS site by the New GRE pattern team. 10 Things to know about the New Revised GRE General Test 2011 1. Better Design: The new design is Multi-State Design, where you can go back and forward in a particular section and edit the answers. You can mark and go back to a question and answer. It is different from the way the current GRE works. The goal is to create a more natural test experience. 2. Improved Quality of Data: The quality of the data used for the GRE Test will be better in the new pattern. New GRE pattern is designed to measure those skills that are critical to graduate and Business programs. 3. Most revisions to Verbal Section: The verbal section is the most changed section of the whole GRE. There will be more complex reasoning. No antonyms and analogies. No vocabulary out of context. New types of questions. 4. Quantitative reasoning: They are including a calculator to avoid distractions in test caused my minor mistakes. They are interested in reasoning ability and not the arithmetic calculations. More emphasis on Data interpretation and real life scenarios.

the integrated reasoning section, and the analytical writing assessment.Total testing time is three and a half hours, but test takers should plan for a total time of approximately four hours, with breaks. The quantitative and verbal sections of the GMAT exam, both multiple-choice, are administered in the computer-adaptive format, adjusting to a test takers level. This both shortens the time it takes to complete the exam and establishes a higher level of accuracy than a fixed test. At the start of each multiple-choice section of the exam, test takers are presented with a question of medium difficulty. As they answer each question, the computer scores their answer and uses itas well as their responses to any preceding questionsto determine which question to present next. Correct responses typically prompt questions of increased difficulty. Incorrect responses generally result in questions of lesser difficulty. This process continues until test takers complete the section, at which point the computer will have an accurate assessment of their ability level in that subject area.
