    How to Enter Accented & Special Characters PC

    To enter special characters on a PC keyboard (Alt+ method): 1. Make sure you are typing on a keyboard that includes a 10-key numeric pad on the right side. If you use the number keys along the top of the keyboard, the characters wont appear. a.  Some laptop keyboards have a numeric keypad in the middle of the keyboard that can be initiated with the Fn (function) key. 2. Num Lock must be activated. 3. Hold down the Alt key and type the four-digit number shown below. When you release Alt, the accented character will show up. Accented letters available for personalization

    Special characters

    Alternate method on a PC keyboard (Character Map): 1. Open the Character Map in Windows. a.  From the Start Menu, look in the Accessories folder, in System Tools. 2. Find the character you want; then Select and Copy it (see photo at right). Paste it where you need it. The bottom right shows the keystroke for each character if one exists.

    To enter special characters on a MAC keyboard (Option+ method): 1. Hold down the Option key and type the letter shown. Release. When you release Option, the accent will show up but there will not be a letter there yet. 2. Then, type the second string shown below (ex: Shift + the letter). The letter will show up underneath the accent. Accented letters available for personalization

    Special characters

    Alternate method on a MAC keyboard (Character Viewer): 1. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences. 2. In System Preferences, from the View menu, select Language & Text (10.6 and later) or International (10.5). 3. Select the Input Sources tab (10.6 and later) or Input Menu tab (10.5), and then check Keyboard & Character Viewer (10.6 and later) or Keyboard Viewer (10.5). A flag or the Character Viewer icon should appear in the menu bar in the upper right corner of your screen. The type of flag you see depends on the default language you select. 4. Click the new icon in the menu bar, and from the menu that drops down, select Show Character Viewer. 5. Copy and paste individual letters (see photo at right).
