(Partnered with Shawn Williams, editor and founder of Dallas South News, in Fall 2011, to cover the underserved communities in southern Dallas county. Williams is the founder of the nationally acclaimed DallasSouthBlog.com (2006). In 2009, he started the nonprofit Dallas South News to cover news in these diverse and often low income neighborhoods. My Reporting II students bring professional news coverage to these communities and their work has led to milestones such as: highest web traffic day in DSN history; numerous top ranked stories on Google News; 23,000 hits on a story about the death of a prominent African American business man; 59,700 hits on a play by a local hotel to hire hundreds of workers; 75,000 hits on a story about the dedication of a new bridge that links south Dallas to downtown. The partnership was favorably profiled in a study about student-generated content in local media outlets by the Knight Foundation http://journalism.utexas.edu/news/plugging-local-news-gap (sidebar on page 23). The partnership also received coverage by SMU News and Information: http://www.smu.edu/News/2012/mark-agnew-story-01may2012 PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
