Business Challenge
A wide variety of factors from the growing complexity of traditional network management (arising from limited vendor interoperability and proprietary protocols) to growing traffic volumes have contributed to increased OpEx and CapEx for Communications Service Providers (CSPs) during a time of limited budgets and increased spending cuts. At the same time on the IT infrastructure side, the growth in data-centers, cloud-based infrastructure, and applications is driving the need for virtualization and higher requirements for security and scalability. As CSPs look to virtualization and the implementation of new architectural approaches to drive enhanced efficiency and management of their network and data-center infrastructures, Software Defined Networks (SDN) have become the key to unlocking the promised technology and business benefits.
