Create and alter 3 digital images, using the technical skills and rhetorical strategies learned in class to create a cohesive and effective subvertising campaign. 2 Goals Manipulate digital images, using visual rhetorics and genre conventions to subvert the rhetorics of one organization. 3 Requirements 1. You create three digital images that appear to fit in with the original ad: i.e. color scheme, font, size, smooth edges, etc. The images should not look Photoshopped. 2. Within these three images, you must meet the following six requirements (not every image must fulfill all six of the requirements): a. One image must have an overt argument. b. One image must have a covert argument. c. One image must include text. d. One image must be an original image (photograph, drawing, collage, etc.) that you composed yourself using low tech. Once you create the image, scan it and submit it digitally. e. One image must use Creative Commons licensed material. f. One image must be based on a real advertisement that you will provide alongside your altered image. 3. Each image should provide a similar message but in a unique way. Each subvertisement should target something specific about how a corporation or organization portrays itself. 4. You will post the digital image for Photoshop editing to the blog with 250-500 words explaining their rhetorical purpose on 2.11. 6. You will submit the final image and a 1-2 page cover letter to the Carmen Dropbox on 2.20. 4 Grading Criteria ____Technical Skill (15 points) Photoshop is utilized effectively: the image doesnt look Photoshopped. The image boundaries are smooth. Skills taught in the Photoshop workshop as well as skills learned on students own are well-demonstrated. ____Genre Standards (15 points)

Images follow the genre standards of the organizations advertisements: composition, font, color choice, layout, etc. ____Complex Argument (20 points) Argument is complex and specific, not broad. Argument refers to something specifically about the organizations representation of itself. Argument is clear to an audience that doesnt have a cover letter to read. Argument considers how it will appear to multiple audiences. ____Visual Rhetoric Savvy (15 points) Ethos, pathos, and logos are readily perceivable and effective. Kress and van Leeuwens strategies relating to positioning the viewer and modality are perceivable and effective. Beyond genre standards, image composition is well-balanced, colored, and arranged. ____Image Cohesiveness (15 points) Elements go together to create a cohesive wholeits an argument, not just three separate images. ____Cover Letter (15 points) Explains the images argument effectively and rhetorically, using language from the readings and class discussions. ______Assignment Requirements (5) Assignment includes all of requirements listed above. ______Total (100 points) Comments:
