No, residents of Tabernacle,
youre not crazy. There was, in
fact, a lengthy debate over a pro-
posed cell phone tower at Neu-
berts Automotive on Route 206
that ended with the project being
approved by the township. Its just
that those conversations took
place two years ago, long enough
that many had forgotten the proj-
ect was approved. After years of
delays, construction is finally
scheduled to begin later this fall.
Tabernacles land development
board approved the construction
of a cell tower for T-Mobile in
2011. For many residents, that
was the last they had heard of the
project, as construction never
began. Frank DeGenova of Val-
ore LLC said paperwork has
caused the sluggish pace.
Valore has been working on
this project for nearly three years.
The New Jersey Pinelands Com-
mission and township require-
ments have prolonged the ap-
proval process for construction.

move on to obtaining a building
permit, which is in the process of
being completed.
Once that is finished, ground
can be broken for the project to
begin.
Once we get started, it should
only take a month or two to
build, DeGenova said.
The tower will be built in the
rear parking lot of Neuberts Au-
tomotive. Its proximity to the
Medford Farms Baptist Church
and an adjacent residential neigh-
borhood were the cause of resi-
dents initial concerns.
Homeowners in that section of
Tabernacle, called Medford
Farms, said the tower would be
an eyesore and directly decrease
property values in their neigh-
borhood. Because of those com-
plaints, the land development
board initially voted to deny the
construction request after several
public hearings. The committee
reversed its decision after a judge
in the case sent the decision back
to the township for review. At that
point, the committee voted and
approved the construction of the
tower.
Currently, T-Mobile is the only
mobile provider scheduled to oc-
cupy the tower when construc-
tion is completed. The tower is
being constructed with the intent
of attracting other licensed carri-
ers to utilize the site if the need
arises. The increase in cellular
devices being used has increased
the demand for cellular service
throughout the country. Many
local municipalities have grown
accustomed to the towers being
built. The tower will be equipped
to support the latest 4G technolo-
gies to support carrier and cus-
tomer demands.

nounced that the Rutgers Cooper-
ative Extension of Burlington
County is now accepting applica-
tions for the 2014 Rutgers Master
Gardener Training Program.
No previous coursework or ex-
perience is required.
This is an excellent program
for residents of Burlington Coun-
ty with a willingness to learn and
a passion for gardening and giv-
ing back to the community, Free-

Courses will be held at the Rut-
gers Cooperative Extension Of-

Lenape Regional High School
District superintendent of
schools Carol Birnbohm wel-
comed back students to Seneca
High School and sister schools
Shawnee, Cherokee and Lenape
with a message to students that
this year is all about acceptance.
No Place for Hate
This year, all schools at the
Lenape Regional High School Dis-
trict will be designated No Place
for Hate, Birnbohm said. The
Philadelphia/Southern N.J. re-
gional Anti-Defamation League
office will designate the district
and all high schools as a No Place
for Hate resulting from last
years initiatives to increase the
appreciation of diversity, reduce
bias and bullying as well as build
communities of respect.
We look forward to building
upon that recognition and contin-
uing the wonderful programs we
implemented to gain No Place for
Hate designation.
One Book, One School
The popular program, which
has been a tool for teaching and
creating community within the
district, will be back.
This is a highlight for each of
the schools as each school cre-
atively weaves the themes and
principles of the books into class-
room discussions, Birnbohm
said. There have been academic
pep rallies, corn maze challenges
between schools, treasure hunts
and fundraisers all related to the
books chosen by the schools One
Book One School committee.

The YMCA of Burlington and Camden

Fourth Annual Wine and Food Classic, the
regions premier wine and food showcase.
This highly anticipated annual event will
be held on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the
renowned Tavistock Country Club.
The Wine and Food Classic benefits the
Ys Community Support Campaign that
provides services to children and families
in Burlington and Camden counties re-

them. That seems like an ap-
propriate response to the fed-
eral government shutdown that began
the first day of October and, as of this
writing, was still in effect.
Its pathetic. It truly is. We the peo-
ple of the United States of America
voted these people into Congress to
represent our best interests. But in the
name of their political party, and not
in the name of those who they repre-
sent, they have failed to reach agree-
ments to balance the nations budget
and decided to shut down.
As a result, more than 2 million fed-
eral workers will see their paychecks
delayed, and its possible that 800,000 of
those people might never get repaid.
That is because, of course, as is typical
with our government, the politicians
arent affected by their own decisions,
while those whom they represent
must bear the brunt of it all.
A government shutdown in reali-
ty isnt a complete closing of doors. By
law, certain agencies must operate
with unsalaried employees. That in-
cludes agencies that deal with nation-
al security and also those that manage
benefits such as Social Security pay-
ments. So, in effect, these people are
forced to work, with no pay, just be-
cause the politicians whom they chose
to represent them are deciding to play
party politics instead of coming to an
agreement for the good of the people.
This is just one example of how the
shutdown affects these politicians
constituents. The longer it drags on,
the worse it will get. Veterans may not
receive benefits. The Centers for Dis-
ease Control and Prevention will halt
its flu program, right as flu season be-
gins. Small business financing could
be seriously damaged. And the list
goes on.
Politicians nowadays dont seem to
care about whats good for the people.
They only care about their own party
line whether it be Republican, Demo-
crat, Tea Party or otherwise. Thats
sad, and it negatively affects all of us.
So the only response we, as citizens,
can make is to vote them out of office.
Bring in new people who care about
the people they represent and not the
party to which they belong. Bring in
new people with new ideas who want
change and welcome compromise.
This partisan political culture we
live in needs to stop.

ways expanding healthy food op-
tions. We are implementing the
USDA My Plate five components
for each lunch, Birnbohm said.
The requirements include age-
appropriate calorie minimums
and maximums, larger servings
of vegetables and fruits, a wider
variety of vegetables, including
dark green and red or orange veg-
etables and legumes. The plan
also includes fat-free or 1 percent
milk, at least 51 percent whole
grains, protein servings at a max-
imum of 2.4 ounces, a maximum
of 10 percent saturated fat and
less sodium.
Community Service
The school district is highly
involved in volunteerism and
community service. Over the past
two years, each high school coor-
dinated a Senior Day of Service
where senior students are dis-
patched to over 90 different loca-
tions across the eight communi-
ties performing some type of
community service for that day,
Birnbohm said. In addition, we
collaborated with Goodwill Indus-
tries of Southern New Jersey
conducting a clothing drive com-
petition that accumulated over
25,000 pounds of donations and
look forward to participating
with Goodwill again.
There are plans to continue to
focus on programs already in mo-
tion in the school.
Defy the Issue
Defy the Issue, a drug and al-
cohol free campaign, continues to
be the focus of student-to-student
presentations both within our
schools and with the middle
schools in the eight townships
which we serve. Drug Squad at
Seneca did big community pres-
entation already, and will main-
tain program with smaller group
student presentations, Birn-
bohm said.
