Invention Factory Blueprint
I found an epigraph In a book of Ernest Setton Tompson: Tasted the fruits of the torment of thirst, I dug a well, from which would be drinking other people.
My family legend says that I started to walk independently when I was approximately one year old. I saw a rotating wheel of a turned over wheelbarrow. I drop my grandfather hand, and walk forward to my new toy. Grandfather proclamed that I will be a mechanic. God knows, how he was right.
How everything started? I remember one evening in November 1963 when I was 3 years old. I was sick like a dog with cold. Grandmother did not let me out of the bed. My father Michail Aretskin, return from work and told, that Soviet Union just sent another rocket in space.
My Father Michael Aretskin Still in uniform of Sr. lieutenant 1945 WWII just ended.
How everything started? He start to make paper cones and explane 3 years old how rockets work. He also told me, that when I grew up, I will build space rockets. I just reply: Sure Father. Now, when my signature on parts for all major American Lounch Wehecles, I am puzeled: How he knew about it then ?
My Father introduce me to The Erector Set. It was very expensive toy it cost him 10% of his monthly salary. He tought me how to work with common manual tools. I am building different models since.
We spend summer time near the Moscow in Monino, were my grandmather has a sommerhouse. There located Russian Airforce Academy, named after Yuri Gagarin, which prepar Russian Cosmonavts. There National Aerospace Museum. Plains of all models use to fly over my head evry 10-15 minutes. Then I could distinguish them by sound of the motor. It was like a music. When time come I dreamwed to become an aerospace Engineer.
I graduated from Moscow State Technical University MADI- Road Machinery department and start to work in a company, which build regional steam stations and garbage incinerators.
From there I jump to PhD program in Industrial Research Institute and simultaneously start to work as Lead Testing Engineer in Special Design Burrow for Design Tower Building Cranes. We tested strength and weaknesses of cranes structures with different nondestructive methods (NDT). In 1989 we build a first in the country independent ISO9000 certification laboratory.
How everything started? I had immigrate in USA in 1991. Since then: I participated in development of wafer handling and inspection robots for Hewlett Packard, Western Digital, IBM, Nikon, and OKI; Design and development of new Cargo Loading Systems for Boeing and Airbus; Production of Hardware for Atlas, Delta, Titan, Space Shuttle and international Space Station programs; Software development ; Design, prototyping and testing Microwave Antennas and Radars.

Invention Factory Blueprint In this presentation I will describe a development methodology which I had learn when was an engineering student and continue use for last 30 years. This methodology is a missing link between just an Idea you get and Perfect Invention you desire to create. To explain it I wrote and published an ebook
16
It is unfortunate to see that many inventors rush to build a prototype or elaborate schematic of huge development only to learn that their creation blow up in their face as Premature detonation as was well described by Jeffs Dunham an Ahmed-the Dead Terrorist.
17
Most of us - Inventors use to a process of Trials and Improvements. And this process is somewhat tedious and chaotic. The lessons learned from this process are costly and time consuming. Edison said once that he discovered 10000 ways how not to do things.

Synthesis of New Technical solutions Any technical object is an element in a chain of evolution of the system, where the appearance of a new solution is preceded by the introduction of a new function. We can imagine the world as a set of systems of technical solutions. In any moment of time there are sufficiently more proposed technical solutions then realized ones. Every function can be realized by subset of multiple technical solutions. Every Function has relatively greater longevity then possible technical solutions.
20
We may get a first impression of needs from Information collected during Patent searches and Competitive product analysis. But at first it is necessary to decide if the problem needs a solution. We should not engage with a problem when there enough available ready to use solutions, or when chosen problem is insignificant.
21
My first Engineering Department Manager Leonid Makovsky approached me with flowing logical problem: He asked me what should a young investigator do when he receives a case about murder? I had answered that he would have to start learn about evidence. He laughed and said that this poor fellow should read the address on the file and check in which precinct the crime occurred, then send it to the detective who is responsible for that precinct.
22
The problem appears when we meet a contradiction between needs and ways to it satisfaction. Example: Let's look in the contradiction at the structure of machine for leveling the surface of the land Motor Grader. To perform the main function- leveling the surface the Motor Grader should be long. To be maneuverable the Motor Grader need to be short.

Objective formulation of a Synthesis of New Technical Solutions Correctly formulated objective of New Technical Solutions Synthesis is determined by set of requirements for a product or system or problem statement and set of functions, which will satisfy these requirements. The requirements may include: Source Requirements. These are the requirements you get from your customers or stakeholders. Mission or Business Requirements. These are the requirements that specify the operational context in which the system operates in a larger world. System/Subsystem Requirements. These are the requirements that define what the system must be able to do.

To produce a quality technical solution we had to create the requirements with minimal ambiguity. I would illustrate an ambiguity in the requirements in two riddle examples. (This is an artificially introduced ambiguity.)
27
Objective formulation of a Synthesis of new Technical Solutions Example 1: One group of students, without seen the testing setup, was asked to perform relatively simple task. They were asked to jump over the pencil residing on the flour. When they entered in the room where this test had to be conducted, nobody can do it. Another group was asked (again without seen the testing setup) why the first group was not being able to perform. (To close to the wall) Example 2: In small table standing in a small room behind closed door. There jar of water on the table as well as Cesar and Cleopatra in the room. Door was suddenly open, jar was broken and Cesar and Cleopatra die. Why Cesar and Cleopatra die. (Fish in a fish tank)
Objective formulation of a Synthesis of new Technical Solutions Classical example of post-processing ambiguity clarification

To formulate functions of the system 1. 2. 3. We need to identify initial conditions. We need to determine satisfying resulting conditions. We need to identify limiting conditions. F=(V, O, L) Where V is an activity (Verb), O is an Object (Noun) and L- Conditions limitations.
Mark Aretskin, AML Consulting, LLC, PerfectInvention.com 2013 30
Objective formulation of a Synthesis of new Technical Solutions Example: Process of food preparation: Initial conditions: Separate ingredients to be introduced. Resulting conditions: Dough is ready to bake. Limiting conditions: Required viscosity and density Function: Prepare dough with required viscosity and density.
31
Objective formulation should be as general as allowed by the overall complexity of the problem.

33
Objective Analysis The function attributed to any system may be divided on set of auxiliary sub functions. There are 2 groups of sub functions. 1. Group of functions is providing a system existence.
Between functions providing a system existence we can see functions of external and internal connectivity, structural
integrity, power supply and excess removing etc. 2. Group of functions necessary to achieve a specific goals.
Between functions necessary to achieve a specific goals we can see a function energy transformation, regulation and control, information processing etc.
Auxiliary functions must be essential for any technical solutions; be independent from each other, and cover all main aspects of a system work.
Mark Aretskin, AML Consulting, LLC, PerfectInvention.com 2013
34
Objective Analysis
We also can divide main function into set of partial functions, for example attributed to subassemblies. We can divide partial function into set of elementary or not devisable functions, for example attributed to separate parts in the subassembly.
35
Objective Analysis
We may represent a set of functions of technical system as a tree to be built from top to bottom and has 4 levels. 1- Main Function; 2- Auxiliary functions providing system existence and necessary to achieve a specific goals; 3- Partial functions attributed to subassemblies; 4- Elementary functions attributed to separate parts;
36
Objective Analysis
Therefore, the algorithm of Objective Analysis includes the following procedures: 1. 2. We should divide the main function into a set of auxiliary functions meeting the required condition. We should separate partial functions, having done the same operation except that the number of functions that were auxiliary to the main function is conventionally considered main to the functional group. We should draw function structure as a graph. We should analyze the structure of the functions and try to simplify it by eliminating unnecessary or insufficiently substantiated functions.

3. 4.
38
This is a stage where creativity plays the most significant role. The algorithm for technical solution search may be build as follow: 1. 2. We should make a morphological map of technical solutions. We should examine each function independently and identify the various options for its implementation.
This could be achieved by implementing various methodologies such as TRIZ, De Bono method etc.

Any normally operating technical system, as a whole and its elements satisfy a list of requirements. These requirements may be divided into mandatory and auxiliary. Exclusion or dissatisfaction of any mandatory requirement from this list leads to the stop functioning of a system. Exclusion or dissatisfaction of any auxiliary requirement will cause a deterioration of its performance. The number of requirements in the list depends on the number of functions performed by the technical system, the properties and characteristics of its structural elements and interactions with the environment.
42
Analysis of technical solutions The algorithm of analysis of technical solution consist of the following steps: 1. We should draw up a list of mandatory requirements for quality performance of each partial function. We should exclude from the morphological card partial solutions that do not meet the mandatory requirements. We should construct a matrix of pair wise comparisons to check the remaining partial solutions for compatibility. We should list all combinations of partial solutions without fear of incompatibility.

45
46
47
Now the goal is to compare available technical solutions and choose the best from it.
48
4.
49
Auxiliary requirements may conform for example to the following conditions: 1. 2. 3. 4. Significance of technical requirements for this type of technology. Compliance the technical requirements with the intended purpose of designing object. Requirement stability. Requirement volatility.
50
52
We should evaluate compliance of the technical solution to each auxiliary requirement using scale 0 to 10 We should calculate the selection criterion M for each technical solution by multiplying values of compliance on corresponding weight and summarizing this the products for each row. Selected solution will have highest value of M.

54
Conclusion
Now you are ready to work on your provisional or nonprovisional patent application. You evaluated number of plausible alternative technical solutions and you may describe each of them as a corresponding claim in the patent. You may start to develop a prototype of the best-selected solution.
As you can see, this discipline approach will prevent you from spending money prematurely. If you have a difficulty with using this methodology PerfectInventoion.com always ready to help you.
