For my AS level film studies coursework, I will be doing a location report based on my textual analysis which was analysing

a horror of two films which were The Woman in Black and Fright Night in which I have explored fear and isolation and will be doing the same in my location report.

Location 1 - A farm house This location is ideal for my planning as this scene relates to the film The Woman in Black when Arthur Kipps is face to face with a haunted house with a scary look with fog around the house. This location is easily accessible to get too as it near to where I am studying it is roughly a 10 minute walk I also had to seek permission before taking a picture of this location and If I was to film in this location I would also have to seek permission and talk through with the owner of the house of why and what I need to film. When filming I am going to be using different cinematography angles such as a close up shots showing every detail of the haunted house, the protagonists expression of the haunted house and a medium shot showing the whole house in the scene. I will then pan to show the different protagonists walking towards the haunted house there will be close ups of the two young girls expression showing how they feel and react to the house and the surroundings such as the swing set, swamp and the derelict horse stable. This will give the audience a spooky and uncomfortable feeling through the use of score music, low key lighting and non-diegetic music. Throughout I will be using is a

DSLR camera because it has a higher resolution, better quality and a great flexibility. These components which I am including are a part of a typical horror genre. Due to the haunted house I will create isolation and fear by using low key lighting, eerie music creating an enigma relating to the Roland Barthes theory by doing this it will allow the audience to be suspicious.

Location 2 Swing set

Following up from the first scene, this swing set is directly in front of the house but it has a longer distance I will be using a long shot from the house, as the two young girls are looking around, one of the protagonists is very suspicious, I will film from where the door and zoom in closely to the swing set also using an eye line and a close up match showing her perception and expression of the swings as it moves without any wind also using eerie music, her expression shows confusion and being nervous this also links in with the theme of isolation and fear regarding to one of the girls being alone creating isolation and fear which is connoting to the audience of her feelings. The scene is similar to the The Women in Black however in the film Arthur Kipps is looking through a window using a low angle shot looking down and sees a ghosts near a grave. In comparison with the first scene I will be using low key lighting showing suspense and tension also using the same camera. To the audience and also using non diegetic sound creating an uncomfortable atmosphere for both protagonist and the audience.

Location 3 A derelict horse stable

My third location shows a derelict horse stable near the haunted house, for cinematography I aim to use a quick mid showing doors opened and long shot showing my protagonist running past the stables trying to get away from this ghost/spirit she has seen, non-diegetic music will be added during editing will be fast paced music and rapid breathing of the protagonist showing that she is scared this links in with the themes of isolation and fear that I have been doing in my textual analysis. The lighting for scene will be low key connoting to the audience that something is about to happen also creating tension throughout, same again creating an enigma, this will keep the audience interested in what is going to happen to the young girl. In between where the protagonist is running I will get close ups of face showing the audience exactly what she is feeling during this time also making the audience feeling uncomfortable. The protagonist is shown to be helpless and decides to hide in one of the stables without the spirit finding her, a medium shot will be used to show the condition she is in. In The Woman in Black we see Arthur Kipps running through a forest to get away from the ghost he has seen.
