IDEA GENERATION CASE

MUSICON GRAND FINALE, FEBRUARY 7

Bangladesh, a beautiful country with endless potentials and unbelievable talent , but yet lagging behind and lacking opportunities due to the economic constraint and political instability. Yet, it never stopped the youth of Bangladesh to grow and nurture their talents against all odds. Yet, the dream and the passion never died. MUSICon is a one of a kind platform for university students to bring out their passion for music and battle out the supremacy in an Inter University Musical Showdown. This event is organized by 7TEEN Events, a firm fundamentally geared towards focusing on the youth of Bangladesh. It excels in bringing to life events that offer a perfect platform for them to exhibit their verve, talents and finesse. 7TEEN has a policy of working for the youth, with the youth. This means, 7TEEN has a workforce mostly including university students. The journey of MUSICon started in March 2012, when it was a music themed gaming carnival. In March 2013, MUSICon evolved into the first Inter University Musical Showdown of the country, with 4 universities (EWU, BRACU, IBADU, BUP) competing for the championship and the prize money of Tk 10,000. The competition took place in Saffron Garden, Gulshan 2. The judgement was done by an expert judge panel, and also by live SMS voting from the audience. Next MUSICon, which took place in October 2013, became much bigger, with 6 universities and total prize money of Tk 106,000. This MUSICon also included some changes, such as: 1. Multiple Rounds: The first round of MUSICon took place in September 2013. Out of 6 universities, 4 moved to the final. The final is scheduled to take place on February 7, 2014. 2. Featured Band: Each round of MUSICon featured a band. The band not only performs in the event as a headliner, but also judges the performances and gives their expert opinion. To make the challenge even harder for the universities, each university has to perform one song of the band. 3. Competition beyond the stage: In the Grand Finale, the competition did not include the live performance only. To bring out originality and creativity, each university has to make a music video with original sound track. And to make the platform of MUSICon even better and bigger, and idea contest is introduced to improve the competition that is MUSICon. 4. Online Voting: Along with SMS voting, online voting was also introduced in the Grand Finale. For the next MUSICon, the plan is to make the platform even bigger, even more competitive and even more fulfilling. Given the circumstances and the environment of Bangladesh: 1. How do you think the platform of MUSICon can be more competitive? 2. What changes and improvements are necessary to make the competition more versatile and fairer? 3. How can more universities be included in the competition to make it bigger?
