Myth P 98 - 119 These pages deal with the events leading up to and during the Trojan War. We are introduced to some of the most well-known Greek heroes and given a look into the basic sequence of events during one of literatures most prolific adventures. Using material from these pages and additional sources, complete one of the following project options: Individual Project Options 1. Using 1-2 11 x 17 sheets of paper create the front page of a newspaper with pictures, articles and relevant advertisements detailing the events of the Trojan War. You may use both sides of the paper if needed. Your articles must tackle the facts as they are presented in the readings. Your articles are not summaries. They are to be written in a journalistic style. Your cover must have a title and be setup like a newspaper. Your articles must explore the stories presented and not trail off with a continued on pg.. You must have at least one central picture that is drawn to the best of your ability. Each article must have a relevant headline. Any advertisement you choose to put on the cover must be related directly to the readings. The whole page should be full of information (500 words min. total) . Feature articles on Achilles, Paris and a god/goddess must be included .
2. Using two 11 x 17 sheets of paper create a 20 - 30 frame detailed comic (including dialogue) of either the events leading up to the Trojan War, a specific event from the war, the war itself, or all combined. You may not draw in stick figures. Your comic will be coloured or detailed with shading. Your comic must contain dialogue including a narrators running commentary. Each frame must be full of character action drawn to the best of your ability. You may choose to make a digital comic using Vector art, or an online comic generator (but the final result must be print in colour) Your comic must have a title.
3. Make 7-10 detailed paper dolls, finger puppets or trading cards of key players in the Trojan War. Choose one side of the war to represent, or key battles. Your dolls/cards will have full character descriptions on their flipsides. The character descriptions will be written in first person with each character boasting of his/her heritage, role in the war, and key war moments including their deaths. Two of the dolls may be characters not found in detail in our text, but that still played a key role in the war. Each doll/card will be in full colour. Trading cards should be done on index cards Each doll should be 6 10 inches in height. On the flipside each doll/card will have his/her name as a title and a description of her/his role in the Trojan War. Also, descriptions of any important associations and relationships related to the events preceding, or following the war should be included. 50 words each if you do 10, 75 words if you do 7 Each write- up will be written in the traditional Greek boasting manner and should remain true to the voice of the character 4. Choose two or three of the major characters from the chapter and assume their identities to write letters to significant people during important moments of the war. For example: Odysseus writing home to his wife Penelope while he comes up with the Trojan horse idea , King Priam to Zeus and Achilles upon the death of
Hector, or Agamemnon to his wife Clytemnestra, and Artemis before and after the sacrifice of their daughter. You may also choose to write between Hector and his wife, or Paris and Helen even though they are not separated by war. You may write between 2 and 5 letters totaling 1000 words minimum. Your letters must reflect the events of the readings, but are not summaries. The entries must show an understanding of the individuals personality, dilemmas and actions. These are letters of war be sure to show the emotions involved!
8. Make four personal collages of key figures from the Trojan War
These collages must cover an 8.5 x 11 sheet minimum These collages are not digital and must be completed in colour The collages will feature a depiction of the character, symbolic objects, his/her name, and a single sentence about his/her importance Partner Options
9. Make a video (musical or dramatic) highlighting the two sides of the war Examples: Music video: rap battle between Achilles and Hector Character focused: P90X the Achilles and the Myrmidons edition 10. Put together a vision of a Trojan War costume department by creating three Trojan War costume/actor kits along with a character information sheet for each.
These character information sheets should contain the background information about the characters including the side they are on in the war, their motivations in the war, and so on The character sheets must also include actor/costume information explaining what you have put together as a costume and why, and how the actor should play the role based on the limited information At least one character selected must be a god Make, sew, or put together costumes for these three characters with complete details (details all to be discussed on the info sheet) Costumes must be multifaceted (as in a single dress will not suffice) 11. Create a Trojan War treasure Box filled with artifacts from both sides and Mt. Olympus that were somehow saved from the war. Include a collection of 8 1o items that are symbolically significant to the telling of the war story A detailed explanation of the items included and their significance to the war (remember to go beyond the literal) This means you will write what the item is, its role in the war, and why its important to the understanding of the war story. The more detailed the explanation, the better. Three items must be significant writing, at least two items must be art, and no more than two weapons. 12. Trojan War Readers Theatre Script Choose three or more key scenes to create dialogue, stage directions (including emotions, and movement), and character notes The scenes selected must be pivotal to the war. You will explain your scene selection, cast choices, and artistic vision in your directors notes at the start of the script Your script must have a cover, a dramatis personae, a cast page with pictures Yu may choose to make your script a theme version (for example The Simpsons or superheroes) just make sure you stay true to the events and feelings of the original
