    Multi-Genre Project
    Multi-Genre Project Grade 9 English Background: This is a creative way to show your thinking on how language is a reflection of perspective as we communicate with others. We will use Romeo and Juliet as our anchor text to complete this project. You can select any number of characters, themes, symbols, conflicts, etc. that are of interest to you from the play. You will have the opportunity to write from a range of perspective from a long list of genres or text types see attachments. Additionally, you will reflect and explain what you were trying to accomplish with each genre through your endnotes. Assignment: Create a Multi-Genre Project that contains THREE different genres from the list provided below and on the back (or see me if you want to do something not on the list). Each genre needs to reflect your understanding of the important literary devices we have studied throughout the year while connecting specifically to the events in the novel. For each genre, you will also submit a thorough reflection that explains what you were trying to accomplish in creating the genre you created please see the document for instructions. Assessment: This project is a major Summative Assessment so it is important that your work is seriously and thoughtfully completed. The highest marks will go to perceptive, unique genre depictions that are accompanied by insightful endnotes that fully explain your goals. Please see the samples and ask questions to better understand the project expectations. Possible Genres:

    Instructions for the Reflective Writing Piece


    A reflection must accompany each genre you create. Reflective writing is an attempt to explain your intentions as the creator: What did you try to accomplish and how did you tried to accomplish it? Reflective writing allows a teacher to understand what you were attempting to do, even if you werent able to do it as well as youd like. The reflection describes the process you went through during the creation of your genres. It tells where your thinking is now about the piece, the story of your thinking during the creation of your pieces, and also traces changes in your thinking while completing the pieces. Your reflective writing should include most or all of the following parts: 1. Describe the process by which you completed each genre. What was your inspiration? What was your goal? How did you structure your work to achieve your goal? How did you determine what aspect/theme/character of the play to focus on? 2. Comment on how each genre helps your audience understand the play better. What literary devices and themes do you address? How does you work provide insight into the essential questions or the characters? 3. Comment thoughtfully on how you were affected by completing each genre. What problems did you encounter during the creative process? What successes did you encounter? How do you feel about the finished product? What did you learn from the process? What might you change if you did it again?
