Using ATI Teletext
What can you do with ATIs new Teletext application on your
personal computer?
ATIs new Teletext application lets you get the most out of
working with teletext. ATI Teletext eliminates all the familiar
disadvantages of televisions teletext (not being able to save
pages, long access time, single page display only, limited
display options, etc.), and allows you to surf in the teletext data
stream.

6 Using ATI Teletext
Installation and Getting Started
Everything necessary to successfully install Teletext is on the
CD. The setup program does all the work. All you need to do is
follow the prompts on your monitor.
Once installation is complete, a menu bar (Launchpad) will
appear on your desktop that lists all the Functions menus in the
Multimedia Center. This makes it very easy for you to access all
Function menus.
These menus can also be accessed via the ATI Multimedia
folder. Teletext, however, can only be accessed through the ATI
Multimedia folder.
Teletext Functions
Now that you have probably played around with Teletext and
had your first experiences with it, we would like to
systematically introduce you to all of the softwares functions.
Using ATI Teletext 7
General Information
Not only can you click with your mouse on the colored
cross-references or on a page number, you can also enter page
numbers with your keyboard. If you use your keyboard to type a
page number (of up to three-digits), the application immediately
searches for and displays that page.
When you click the and buttons, you can move
back and forth through previously displayed teletext pages (see
Page on page 11).

File (Menu)
Saving Pages
Use this button to save an individual Teletext page under
a specific file name. You can use the same file name
many times.
You can save your Teletext pages as either text (.txt format) or
graphics files (.bmp format).
While saving files, Teletext stops the data stream in order to
make sure that the content of the file being saved doesnt
change. Once the file is saved, the application resumes
reception.
Saving Pages as Text
With the left mouse button, click once on the symbol:
Use the menu items...
Save current page
...as text
...to save the contents of the current page as text.
Save all pages
...as text
...to save the contents of all archived pages as text.
The application creates a separate file for each page, adding the
corresponding page number to the file name,
for example: CNN-TEXT100.TXT
CNN-TEXT101.TXT
CNN-TEXT102.TXT.
Using ATI Teletext 9
Saving Pages as a Graphic
Use the menu items...
Save current page
...as graphic
...to save the contents of the current page as a graphic.
Save all pages
...as graphic
...to save the contents of all archived pages as a graphic.
The application creates a file for each page and adds the
corresponding page number to your file name,
for example: CNN-TEXT100.BMP
CNN-TEXT101.BMP
CNN-TEXT102.BMP
Loading Pages
Use this function to display archived pages (or collections of
pages).
IMPORTANT
While downloading an archived page, the
application halts reception of current pages.
10 Using ATI Teletext
Printing
This function allows you to print the displayed page
(including subpages, if applicable).
The output depends on the current display mode (see View on
page 16).
Teletext display prints a graphic
Teletext display + TV (mix) prints a graphic (the
image on the TV screen
cannot be printed)
Text display prints text
Text display + TV prints text
Copying to the Clipboard
This menu button allows you to copy the currently
displayed teletext page to the clipboard as text or graphic,
for use in other applications.
The format depends on the current display format:
Teletext display copies a graphic
Teletext display + TV (mix) copies a graphic (the
image on the TV screen
cannot be copied)
Text display copies text
Text display + TV copies text
To copy text, highlight it with your mouse in the Text display.
Since the application continuously receives new pages, which
can change the contents of the current page, you must first halt
the data stream with the Pause button (see Pausing Pages on
page 11).
Using ATI Teletext 11
Page
Paging Forward
Use this button to view the next available teletext
page. The button is located on the right side, next to
the menu bar.
Note that you can only page forward to a previously-displayed
page. This means that you can only page forward after youve
paged back.
Paging Back
This button allows you to view previously-displayed
pages.
Displaying Subpages
If the current teletext page consists of several subpages, the
application displays them one after the other. You can halt this
display by clicking the Pause button (see also Pausing Pages
on page 11).
Pausing Pages
If a page has subpages, each currently displayed page is
overwritten when a new subpage is displayed. Although a page
that was overwritten still exists in the memory and can be
displayed again, it can be inconvenient to have a page
overwritten.
To avoid this, click the Pause button . Click the Pause
button again to release the brake on overwriting. This causes
the Play icon to appear, indicating that the pause mode is
no longer active. The pause mode remains active until you either
click the Pause button again or display a new page.
IMPORTANT
Clicking the Pause button halts reception of teletext
in the main window only. In all other windows,
clicking Pause simply prevents the display of new
pages.
12 Using ATI Teletext
Searching Text
This function lets you search for keywords in all available
teletext pages of the currently selected channel. The
search is not case-sensitive and you can stop it at any
time.
Click the button displayed above and enter the keyword(s) that
you want to search for in the field that pops up. To begin the
search, click with your left mouse button. Continue
clicking this button to find all occurrences of your keyword. A
message informs you when there are no further occurrences of
your keyword.
When the application finds a page containing the keyword, it
displays that page, with a frame around the keyword.
While the search is going on, the application halts reception.
To stop the search, either click the Search button again or press
Esc.
Once the search is completed, the application resumes reception
automatically.
IMPORTANT
The search is restricted to the available teletext
pages of the currently selected channel.
Using ATI Teletext 13
Page 100
When ATI-Teletext receives teletext pages, it automatically
displays page 100. Almost all stations use this page as the
default beginning page, which leads to further contents.
When ATI-Teletext detects that you are switching stations (for
cable/antenna) or selecting a different station on your SAT-
receiver, it automatically searches for page 100.
Selecting Pages
Valid page numbers for teletext pages are 100 through 899, but
the actual teletext pages vary from station to station.
You can select a different page in various ways:
Using these buttons ...
Using your keyboard Press 0 through 9.
Using the side bar Click the page number (on the right
side of the lower, black status bar) and a list of all the pages
that were received appears. Select the desired page.
Using Favorites Select a favorite (see Example of a
Favorite on page 14 for information).
Selecting directly Click a page number on the displayed
teletext page.
Minimizing Pages
To minimize the current teletext window, click the
Minimize button.
If the current window is the main window, the application also
minimizes all additional windows, and the ATI-Teletext icon
appears in Windows taskbar. Reception continues even though
the ATI-Teletext is minimized.
If the current window is a secondary window and not the main
window, the application minimizes just this window and places
it at the bottom of the monitor. The title of the minimized
window indicates the current station and the current page
number.
14 Using ATI Teletext
To restore a secondary window, double-click it. The number of
minimized windows you can have depends on the frame buffer
of your graphics card.
Closing Pages
To terminate ATI-Teletext, click the Close button. The
application closes without further warning.

Multipage
(New Window)
Clicking the New Window button creates a new window
displaying the current page.
A new window always starts in pause mode. This allows you to
save a current page for further editing, even if you change
stations.
The display mode is attached to the new window as long as this
mode is available for the new window (for information, see
View on page 16).
The display mode is switched as follows when you create a new
window from the main window:
Main window -> New window -> Additional window

Known Problems
Error Message cannot start capturing
This error message appears if no IRQ is assigned to your
graphics card. Please check your IRQ configuration and make
sure that an IRQ is assigned to your graphics card.
No Data in the Teletext Window
There are two possible causes for this problem.
1 No IRQ is assigned to the graphics card (see above error
message).
2 You started the Teletext application before launching
ATI-TV.
NOTE
Please note that you should use this Teletext
software only in countries where a teletext signal
is sent along with the television signal. For
example, the Teletext signal is not sent along with
the program in North America, and this software
will not work there.
