Abstract: This Paper is designed and implemented
for Mobile phone signal jammer for GSM, using
Mobile jammer and ARM7. The jamming device
broadcasts an RF signal in the frequency range
reserved for cell phones that interferes with the
cell phone signal, which results in a "no network
available" display on the cell phone screen.
Mobile jammer is a device which disturbs the
communication between the mobile base station
and mobile equipment by transmitting the noise
signal at the frequency, on which both are trying
to communicate with each other. Mobile jammer
devices are becoming civilian products rather
than electronic warfare devices. With increasing
number of mobile users, the need to disable
mobile phone in specific places, where the ringing
of mobile phone would be disruptive, has
increased. All phones within the effective radius
of the jammer are silenced. In this project we have
a jammer section, keys, microcontroller and GSM
unit. We use keys to set the time for the mobile
jammer to disturb or block the communication.
This information is given to the microcontroller.
Then controller will send data to the GSM just
before the selected time and GSM will send
message to the users whose numbers are
programmed in the GSM that the jammer is going
to activate and communication will be stopped.
After message sent by GSM, mobile jammer
circuit will activate and signals are jammed or
blocked.

I. Introduction
A mobile phone jammer is an instrument used to
prevent cellular phones from receiving signals from
base stations. When used, the jammer effectively
disables cellular phones. These devices can be used
in practically any location, but are found primarily in
places where a phone call would be particularly
disruptive because silence is expected. As with other
radio jamming, cell phone jammers block cell phone
use by sending out radio waves along the same
frequencies that cellular phones use. This causes
enough interference with the communication between
cell phones and towers to render the phones unusable.
On most retail phones, the network would simply
appear out of range. Most cell phones use different
bands to send and receive communications from
towers (called frequency division duplexing, FDD).
Jammers can work by either disrupting phone to
tower frequencies or tower to phone frequencies.
Smaller handheld models block all bands from 800
MHz to 1900 MHz within a 30-foot range (9 meters).
Small devices tend to use the former method, while
larger more expensive models may interfere directly
with the tower [2] [3].

Communication jamming devices were first
developed and used by military. This interest comes
from the fundamental objective of denying the
successful transport of information from the sender
(tactical commanders) to the receiver (the army
personnel), and vice-versa. Nowadays, mobile (or
cell) phones are becoming essential tools in our daily
life. Here in Jordan, for example, with a rather low
population (around 5 million), three main cell phone
carriers are available; namely; Zain, Orange, and
Umniah The first two use the GSM 900 system,
while the third uses the GSM 1800 system. Needless
to say, the wide use of mobile phones could create
some problems as the sound of ringing becomes
annoying or disrupting.

II. The Hardware System
Micro controller: This section forms the control unit
of the whole project. This section basically consists

of a Microcontroller with its associated circuitry like
Crystal with capacitors, Reset circuitry, Pull up
resistors (if needed) and so on. The Microcontroller
forms the heart of the project because it controls the
devices being interfaced and communicates with the
devices according to the program being written.
ARM7TDMI: ARM is the abbreviation of Advanced
RISC Machines, it is the name of a class of
processors, and is the name of a kind technology too.
The RISC instruction set, and related decode
mechanism are much simpler than those of Complex
Instruction Set Computer (CISC) designs.
Liquid-crystal display (LCD) is a flat panel display,
electronic visual display that uses the light
modulation properties of liquid crystals. Liquid
crystals do not emit light directly. LCDs are available
to display arbitrary images or fixed images which can
be displayed or hidden, such as preset words, digits,
and 7-segment displays as in a digital clock. They use
the same basic technology, except that arbitrary
images are made up of a large number of small
pixels, while other displays have larger elements.
Keys Section: With the help of these keys the users
can enroll their eye images and will enter their
passwords.
GSM Modem: GSM/GPRS RS232 Modem from
rhydo LABZ is built with sim com Make SIM900
Quad-band GSM/GPRS engine, works on
frequencies 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and
1900 MHz It is very compact in size and easy to use
as plug in GSM Modem.

Mobile jammer: A mobile phone jammer is an
instrument used to prevent cellular phones from
receiving signals from base stations. When used, the
jammer effectively disables cellular phones.

III. Design of Proposed Hardware System

Now a day, every system is automated in order to
face new challenges in the present day situation.
Automated systems have less manual operations, so
that the flexibility, reliabilities are high and accurate.
Hence every field prefers automated control systems.
Especially in the field of electronics automated
systems are doing better performance increasingly.
We have seen a dramatically boom in the number of
users of mobile communication devices in the last
two decade. Mobile jammer is a device which
disturbs the communication between the mobile base
station and mobile equipment by transmitting the
noise signal at the frequency, on which both are
trying to communicate with each other. Mobile
jammer devices are becoming civilian products rather
than electronic warfare devices. With increasing
number of mobile users, the need to disable mobile
phone in specific places, where the ringing of mobile
phone would be disruptive, has increased. These
places includes worship room, lectures rooms,
hospitals, concert halls, meeting rooms, jails and
other places where the silence is appreciated.

In this project we have a jammer section, keys,
microcontroller and GSM unit. We use keys to set the
time for the mobile jammer to disturb or block the
communication. This information is given to the
microcontroller. This controller will send data to the
GSM just before the selected time and GSM will
send message to the users whose numbers are
programmed in the GSM that the jammer is going to
activate and communication is stopped. After the
message is sent by GSM mobile jammer circuit will
activate and signals are jammed or blocked.
IV. Board Hardware Resources Features
Mobile Jammer
Mobile phone jammers are radio communications
transmitters designed to interfere with licensed
services operated by mobile carriers. A mobile phone
works by communicating with its service network via
a base station. A mobile phone jammer typically
works by preventing the mobile phone from receiving
signals from base stations. As a result, the mobile
phone does not attempt to transmit to a base station,
even though it may be within range. Jammers
effectively disable mobile phones. Jamming a mobile
phone may potentially cause it to lock up and
continue in a non-receiving state outside of the
jammed area until the mobile phone is turned off and

on again (this may not be apparent to or understood
by the user of the mobile phone).
Mobile phones are commonly designed to operate
across several bands. In most circumstances, a
jammer would also need to operate across the same
bands to effectively jam mobile phones within range.
The geographical range of a mobile phone jammer
depends on its power level, its operating frequencies,
the physical situation of the jammer, the mobile
phone/s it is attempting to block, and the local
environment. Mobile phone jammers vary in quality
and functionality, ranging from the rudimentary to
the sophisticated.
The Mobile Phone Jammer Prohibition describes a
prohibited device as: a device designed to operate
within the frequency bands 870-960 MHz or 825-845
MHz and to interfere with radio communications or
disrupt or disturb radio communications, except
where: the device is designed to facilitate a cellular
mobile telephone service on board an aircraft that
operates on another frequency; and the device is
operated for that purpose.
This description reflects a recent amendment to
exempt the use of devices designed to facilitate
mobile communication services on aircraft. Such
devices were previously captured by the definition. In
this discussion paper, the term mobile phone jammer
is used to refer to any prohibited device, as defined in
the Mobile Phone Jammer Prohibition.
1) Jamming Techniques:
There are several ways to jam an RF device. The
three most common techniques can be categorized as
follows:

Spoofing:
In this kind of jamming, the device forces the mobile
to turn off itself. This type is very difficult to be
implemented since the jamming device first detects
any mobile phone in a specific area, then the device
sends the signal to disable the mobile phone. Some
types of this technique can detect if a nearby mobile
phone is there and sends a message to tell the user to
switch the phone to the silent mode (Intelligent
Beacon Disablers).

Shielding attacks:
This is known as TEMPEST or EMF shielding. This
kind requires closing an area in a faraday cage so that
any device inside this cage cant transmit or receive
RF signal from outside of the cage.

Denial of service:
This technique is referred to DOS. In this technique,
the device transmits a noise signal at the same
operating frequency of the mobile phone in order to
decrease the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the
mobile under its minimum value. This kind of
jamming technique is the simplest one since the
device is always on [5]. Our device is of this type.
Mobile jammer circuit includes IF section, RF
section, Antenna and Power supply.
GSM SIM 900
GSM/GPRS RS232 Modem from rhydoLABZ is
built with SIMCOM Make SIM900 Quad-band
GSM/GPRS engine, works on frequencies 850 MHz,
900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 1900 MHz. It is very
compact in size and easy to use as plug in GSM
Modem. The Modem is designed with RS232 Level
converter circuitry, which allows you to directly
interface PC Serial port .The baud rate can be
configurable from 9600-115200 through AT
command. Initially Modem is in Autobaud mode.
This GSM/GPRS RS232 Modem is having internal
TCP/IP stack to enable you to connect with internet
via GPRS. It is suitable for SMS as well as DATA
transfer application in M2M interface.

The modem needed only 3 wires (Tx,Rx,GND)
except Power supply to interface with
Microcontroller/Host PC. The built in Low Dropout
Linear voltage regulator allows you to connect wide
range of unregulated power supply (4.2V -13V). Yes,
5 V is in between!! .Using this modem, you will be
able to send & Read SMS, connect to internet via
GPRS through simple AT commands.

GSM, used in digital cellular and PCS-based systems,
operates in the 900-MHz and 1800-MHz bands in
Europe and Asia and in the 1900-MHz (sometimes
referred to as1.9-GHz) band in the United States.
Jammers can broadcast on any frequency and are
effective against AMPS, CDMA, TDMA, GSM,
PCS, DCS systems [6][8].

Fig.2.Operating frequency bands

In our design, the jamming frequency must be the
same as the downlink, because it needs lower power
to do jamming than the uplink range and there is no

need to jam the base station itself. So, our frequency
design will be as follows:
GSM 900 ---- 935-960 MHZ
GSM 1800--- 1805-1880 MHZ
The CDMA frequency range will be 860-894 MHZ
(Asia & Europe) and 850-894 MHZ (United States).

are setup in a matrix format. This allows a
microcontroller to scan the 7 output pins to see which
of the 12 buttons is being pressed. The jammer ON
time and OFF time will be given with the help of
keypad.

V. Conclusion
This paper is successfully completed using Mobile
jammer and ARM7. By this system we can deactivate
all the mobile signals at any location. We designed a
device that stops phone ringing in a particular time
period. This device could be used in places where
ringing is not desired at specific times, as these
ringing may disturb people in such places. The
designed device works in dual band. It jams both the
GSM 900 and GSM 1800 bands. The device was able
to jam the three main cell phone carriers in Jordan.
