SM CITY BATANGAS Drum and Lyre Competition Mechanics

Event: Drum and Lyre Competition at SM CITY BATANGAS Event Date: November 27, 2011 2:00 PM at The Event Center
Mechanics: 1. The competition is open to all public and private elementary schools. 2. To qualify for the contest, each group must have at least 30 eco-bags purchased from November 1 to 26, 2011 from Mall Admin Office. Each eco-bag is worth P 35.00. 3. Application forms are available at the Mall Admin Office and at the Eco-bag Booth. 4. Deadline of submission of application forms is on November 26, 6PM at the Marketing Department of the Mall Admin Office. The following documents must be submitted together with the application form: Receipt for 30 eco-bags List of band members Certification from the Principal (that the members are indeed grade school students of their school) Waiver
5. Each competing unit should be not less than 40 and not more than 100 members. 6. Mechanical instruments, electronics or motor engines are not allowed. Only batons and flags and other props such as pompoms, banners, etc. are allowed to be used. Ten points will be deducted from the total points of the team violating this particular guideline.
7. The Drum & Lyre Group and the Majorette Corps shall be judged as one competing unit. 70% of the aggregate score of the Drum & Lyre Group and 30% of the aggregate score of the Majorette Corps shall be the total points earned. The total points shall be the basis for the final ranking.
8. No deduction shall be made for the dropping of baton. 9. Judging and time count shall commence from the start of the first beat excluding entry into the performance area. All performances shall not be less than five minutes and not exceed ten minutes including the SM Jingle interpretation. A CD copy of the SM jingle will be given to the school upon submission of registration form. Ten points shall be deducted from the total score if the duration of the performance is not within the time limit.
10. No coach, school head, or school coordinator shall be allowed to go near the judges.
11. Criteria for Judging is as follows: DRUM AND LYRE (70%) Master Piece (Precision of attacks and release, rhythm and tempo) 30% Total Quality (Clarity and harmony) 20% Interpretation (Technique, style and choreography) 20% SM Jingle (Interpretation of SM Jingle) 15% General Impact (Smartness in uniform and deportment) 15% Total 100% MAJORETTE CORPS (30%) Baton Twirling 35% Style and Interpretation 30% Choreography 20% General Impact 15% Total 100% 12. Prizes for the winners: 1st place P15, 000 worth of SM Gift Certificates 2nd prize P10, 000 worth of SM Gift Certificates 3rd prize P5, 000 worth of SM Gift Certificates Certificate of participation shall be given to schools joining the competition. 13. The decision of the Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.
Drum, Lyre & Bugle Competition Guidelines 1. The Drum, Lyre & Bugle Corps Competition is an exhibition of performing drum corps in their free interpretation of three (3) musical pieces of their choice; one (1) English love song; one (1) tagalong novelty song; and one (1) pop song.
2. This is open to all elementary and high school drum corps in Dapitan City.
3. The secondary category is encouraged to infuse the use of bugle(s) and exhibition of batons and other hand props as the case may be and styles as in cheer dancing.
4. The contest shall be judged on performance-50%, musicality-35%, and costume-15%.
5. Competing groups are given 10 to 15 minutes performance time inclusive of entrance and exit. Three (3) points will be deducted for those performers who will exceed the minimum allowable time. Timers are commissioned by the organizer to do the task.
6. Participating groups shall have a maximum of fifty (50) performers and a minimum of thirty (30) inclusive of all type of performers.
7. Winning groups shall; receive, seven thousand pesos (Php7,000.00), five thousand pesos (Php5,000.00); and three thousand pesos (php3,000.00) for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners respectively for the elementary category. Ten thousand pesos (Php10,000.00), seven thousand pesos (Php7,000.00); and five thousand pesos (php5,000.00) for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners respectively for the secondary category. All winners will receive trophies. Trophy heights/sizes to correspond to their respective places. Each non-winning performing groups shall receive two thousand (Php2,000.00) for both categories.
8. Contest date is on July 21,2009 at one (1) oclock in the afternoon for both categories.
9. Venue is at the City Square.
10. Decision of the Board of Judges is final and non-appealable.
