Civil Engineering departments, hosted by the labs of Dr. Paige Novak. Artificial lipid bilayer and in
vivo studies of effects of perfluorinated hydrocarbons on bacterial respiration, design of core-shell
electrospun/hydrogel fermentative membranes to sustain and sequester acetogenic bacteria.

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Graduate STEM Fellow, White House Office of Science and
Technology Policy, Washington, DC Aug 2011 May 2012
Reviewed federally funded STEM education programs, including efforts to increase retention, degree
completion and research experiences for underrepresented students in STEM; prepared reports,
coded, and published public comment on increased public access to federally funded research;
contributed to White House web presence by writing blogs, managing online archives, and
onboarding OSTP to several open government web tools to increase public transparency.

Student Program Coordinator, Texas Shamans, Austin, TX May 2011 July 2011
Led week-long chemistry lab workshops for Title I high school students, including teacher and
student recruitment; transportation and logistics for field work; lab work, lecture and student
presentation components; and collection of program evaluation data.

Graduate Research Assistant, UT Austin Chemistry Department, Austin, TX Sept 2004 Dec 2011
Conducted original research in synthetic bioorganic peptide chemistry. Assisted first- and second-
500-student organic chemistry lecture; biochemistry lecture; and organic, biochemistry and
Freshman Research Initiative labs. Managed a team of six TAs and served as dedicated TA for Texas
Interdisciplinary Program students. Wrote exams and substituted lectures. Planned Careers in
Chemistry symposium as vice-president of Women in Chemistry and moderated Non-traditional
Careers panel. With Sapling Learning, adapted organic chemistry homework for instant-feedback
electronic grading interface.
