However, investments from taly are still limited and the reason for this is probably due to a general unawareness of the opportunities offered by ndia. t was within this backdrop that our Chamber decided to create a Special Project dedicated to the field of nfrastructure and Construction. The objective and role was to create an environment in which, talian companies already present in ndia or interested in the ndian market, as well as ndian companies can come together on a common platform in order to share knowledge, best practices, technologies and experiences that could contribute to the development and growth of our ndian infrastructures. am thus honoured and delighted to inform you that within a couple of months of outlining this segment as a pivotal sector for potential collaborations between ndia and taly, our Chamber has been successful in launching a newly formed Indo Italian Club for Infrastructure and Building Club th (IICIB) on 9 December 2010 in the presence of H.E. Giacomo Sanfelice di Monteforte, Ambassador of taly to ndia. We do sincerely hope that through the establishment of the CB, members will explore the opportunities presented by either country resulting in a significant increase in both trade volumes. As President of the ndo talian Chamber of Commerce and ndustry, am pleased to welcome you all as members and look forward in working with you to accomplish our objectives and in furthering the important work of CB. Thanking you, Narinder Nayar President,The ndo-talian Chamber of Commerce and ndustry & Managing Director, Concast (ndia) Limited 1 l8f8$1800108l 8 80ll0l86 For more information on the Indo-Italian Club for Infrastructure &Building, please contact: The Secretary of the CB. Tel: 022.24368186 Email: infraedi@indiaitaly.com Dear Members, At the outset, would like to thank the ndo talian Chamber of Commerce and ndustry for this distinct honour and privilege to serve as Chairman on the ndo talian Club for nfrastructure and Building. Weathering the global slowdown, the ndian economy is estimated to have grown at 8.6 per cent in 2010-11 in real terms and the ndian economy is expected to sustain a growth rate of 8% for the next 2 years up to 2012. We are now into the end of the 11th five-year plan (2007-12) and given the huge impetus on nfrastructure growth in sustaining ndia's aggressive economic growth, an input of investment worth more than C 369 billion is expected by 2012. Moreover, in the 12th Plan (2012-17), will see this investment double to approx. C 738 billion thus increasing future business opportunities in key sector like electricity, highways and roads, railways, ports, airports, urban and rural infrastructure, logistics..etc. Considering the know-how, technologies and construction experiences across the world of talian companies we 3 2 l8f8$1800108l 8 80ll0l86 strongly felt the importance of improving the level of co- operation between talian and ndian companies operating in these sectors. t was within this framework that the ndo- talian Chamber of Commerce and ndustry, decided to establish an ndo talian Club of Building & nfrastructure (CB) with a view to "To lead ndian and talian organizations in the nfrastructure, construction and building materials by suggesting business opportunities in ndia and taly. to stimulate the ndo-talian cooperation among companies and to support the exchanges among ndian and talian governmental bodies in developing policies for improving quality in infrastructure and buildings. take this opportunity to wish all our current members and look forward to expanding our horizons and invite your ideas and comments for an even more effective collaboration in the coming years. Thanking you Cesare Saccani Chairman, ndo talian Club for nfrastructure and Building & Managing Director, CMQ ndia l8f8$1800108l 8 80ll0l86 5 4 Dear Members, The ndian economic and social dynamics offer a range of extremely interesting opportunities to the "Sistema talia. ndia pursued a growth that, unlike other emerging economies, demonstrated stability and sustainability, spurred by a st r ong i nt er nal demand and supported by a huge reserve of manpower and a growing middle class estimated to be a 100 million consumers strong. Against this background, ndo-talian trade has grown by about 20% in 2010, placing ndia among the leading destinations contributing to the revival of talian exports. Encouraging signals come from our investments in ndia, which are reclaiming their position after a two-year-slow- down: taly ranks 12th among foreign investors in ndia world wide. n tandem with the push, towards a renewed economic partnership, coming from the respective "business communities, the new year opened with a promising increase in bilateral relations. First with the visit of the then Minister for transport Kamal Nath in December 2010, followed by the study-visit of Confindustria in ndia in January 2011, the month that ended with the important mission to taly of Anand Sharma, the Minister of Commerce & ndustry. The talian country promotion mission in ndia, scheduled for the first week of November, will sign the final act of the program of revitalization of the economic bilateral relations agreed on with our ndian friends for the 2011. n this process, the interest on both sides is focused on the infrastructure sector, that is today at the centre of an accelerating development plan. The Union Finance Bill for the FY 2010-11 has confirmed the rightness of this choice. The Bill highlights the strategic importance of infrastructure modernization projects, allotting investments of Rs. 2,720 billion (almost C 50 billion) to the same and introducing, at the same time, several important special policies for FD in the sector. taly, on its part, initiated important synergies, putting together both public and private sector bodies. The Mission on Energy and Environment promoted by Confindustria in collaboration with the Federation of ndian Chambers of Commerce &ndustry (FCC) is a key result of these synergies. The setting up of the ndo talian Club for nfrastructure and Building by the ndo-talian Chamber of Commerce and ndustry (CC) is strategic in this common effort and the documentation produced by the Club, in order to support the Mission, it is a contribution of great relevance. Thanking you Gianluca Brusco Head of the Economic and Commercial Office Embassy of taly INDO ITALIAN CLUB for INFRASTRUCTURE & BUILDING (IICIB) Introduction The lack of good quality infrastructure is costing ndia 1%- 2% growth in GDP every year and is preventing the sectoral, regional, and socioeconomic broadening of the economy. To realize sustained growth of 7%-8% for the year 2007-2012, the government acknowledged that investment in infrastructure would have to be at the same rate as the economic growth that is being targeted. nfact, investment in infrastructure in ndia has increased from 4.9 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2002-03 to 6 percent at the end of the year 2010. Hence, in the current ongoing X (Eleventh Five Year Plan) i.e. [2007-2012] the Government of ndia envisaged an investment of over Euro 389 billion (USD 500million) in infrastructure, which wiII be doubIed to approx. C 758 billion (USD trillion) in the X (Twelfth Five Year Plan) i.e. [2013-2017] of which, 50% is expected from the private sector. Key sectors for projected investments in the X (Twelfth Five Year Plan) i.e. [2013-2017]:- Highways and Road Sector: (projected targeted spending approx. Euro 130 billion) ndia has the 2nd largest road network aggregating over 3.34 million km, however its national highways constitute only about 2% at 74,000 km. RaiIways: (projected spending approx. Euro 58 billion) The ndian Railways proposes to add 25,000 kms of New Lines by 2020, supported by Government funding and a major increase in Public Private Partnerships (PPPs). n addition, the ndian Government has also recognised existing infrastructure gaps and capacity constraints in the rail system. Ports: (projected spending approximately Euro 21 billion) ndian ports handle around 95 per cent of the country's total trade in terms of volume and 70 percent in terms of value. Traffic is estimated to reach 877 million tonnes by 2011-12, and containerised cargo is expected to grow at 15.5% (CAGR) over the next 7 years. Power: (projected spending approximately Euro 254 billion) With the demand of electricity ever increasing in the country and considering the power shortages. The 12th five year plan projects an addition of 100GW, of which tendering for about 43GWhas already been done, with the rest likely to be tendered over the next three to five years.
CoId Chain and warehousing: (projected spending approximately Euro 12.4 billion BY2015) Cold chain and food chain (cold storage, food mobilization, warehousing) is attracting financial support by different Ministries (Food, Agriculture, etc.) to modernize the country and to alloweffective distribution of agriculture product from by using newtechnologies and integrated approaches. "All these sectors represent potential opportunities for Italian companies, and many more opportunities are waiting to be grasped in other sectors such as airports, real estate,...etc". "This is why Cesare Saccani, Chairman of the Club says - the Indo ItaIian CIub for Infrastructure and BuiIding (IICIB) was established by the ndo talian Chamber of Commerce and ndustry to enable talian companies in getting such opportunities by deploying co-operation between talian and ndian companies in the infrastructure, building construction and building materials sectors. To assist its member companies in establishing business collaboration to operate in the ndian and/or talian market (monitoring of specific projects/tenders, entry strategy, partner search) LATEST IICIBINITIATIVES Supported the realization of the Discussion Paper "Policies for mproving Quality in nfrastructure prepared by QC (Quality Council of ndia) and CMQ ndia and sent to all Public Bodies across ndia.
