1 cut out pattern pieces
For the legs, cut 2 inch squares of felt, trace the leg
pattern on one square, machine baste two squares
together inside the traced shape, and cut through both
pieces at the same time. Leave them basted together as
you sew the edge until you need to start stuffing it.
These tips and hints are numbered just like the
illustrations, and give you extra info about each step.
For a step-by-step tutorial detailing how I hand sew felt,
go to www.futuregirl.com and click on the tutorial link.
Center the bottom circle over the opening of the body.
Secure the bottom circle with 4 pins by poking them in
like it's a pin cushion: right, left, top, and bottom.
Stitch around the edge of the bottom circle where it
overlaps the body, instead of trying to match the bottom
circle's edges to the bottom edges of the body.
Stuff the body as much as you can. The more you stuff it,
the less lumpy it will be. Just be careful to not stuff it so
much that you burst the seams.
Use a 26 inch long piece of floss to sew the body
together. Start at the bottom between two body pieces,
sew up to the top, and then sew back down between the
next body pieces. This way, your knots are always at the
bottom of the body. If the top peaks of the body are a
little uneven, you can trim them to match.
sew body together
sew on bottom circle and finish stuffing
To start, stick your needle between the seam stitches on
the inside of the curve with the point of the needle
coming out where the first dot is. Pull the knot between
the seam stitches so it's buried inside the leg.
Thread a sequin and a seed bead on your needle, then
go back through the sequin hole. Put your needle
through the leg so it exits where the next sequin goes.
Be sure that you pull the floss completely through the
sequins and beads so they are tightly secured. Many
times, I haven't been careful about this and after I'm
done, the bead will stick out on a big loop of floss and
the sequin will dangle from the loop.
You can use embroidery, seqins, or beads to create
unique eyes for your octopus. Be creative!
I lightly stuff my eyes so they look bulgy.
Attach the legs to the base of the body so that every
other leg's seam matches up with a body seam.

Always start sewing on the top edge of the leg.

Use a fabric pen/pencil to make a dot at the base of each
V on the leg. The sequin will cover your dots.
use sucker guide to mark sequin locations
Look at each of your octopus' four sides. Attach the
eyes to the side that seems to lean back the most and
has the best top seams.
To sew the eyes on, hide your knot where a leg meets
the body, come out where the eye should be, catch the
back of the eye, go back into the body, and knot your
floss in the leg stitches.
