INDUSTRIAL VISIT REPORT

REPORT ON INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO DELHI, MANALI

AND DHARAMSHALA

On 28th September 2014 the Department of Management studies

Pondicherry University had arranged an industrial visit for 95 students during
the 3rd semester. The students accompanied by 2 faculties of the department,
Dr. Kasilingam and Dr. Chitra Sivasubramaniam started our journey by boarding
the bus to Chennai.
After a long 5 hour wait at the Chennai Central station, we picked our
luggage and marched enthusiastically as we saw the Durontto Express arriving
at the platform. The next 28 hours of our train journey was filled with lots of
fun and enjoyment with our friends as we finally reached the Nizamuddin
station, Delhi around 11 pm on 30th September. The excitement of visiting the
capital city for the very first time was immense.
The next morning we were all set to visit the Mother diary factory. We
visited the plant which was one of its 6 plants in Delhi NCR. The entire process
taking place in the plant was explained in detail with the aid of a video. The
entire process of how the milk is being sourced, transported to the factory,
processed, packaged and transported for sale in stores was explained. We also
got to see the plant and the different processes that the milk undergoes
before we purchase it at the store and consume it. In the later part of the
session, we interacted and raised question to clear our doubts and get a better
understanding of the same. In the end we were served with tasty flavored milk
and ice cream from Mother Diary.

We next indulged in experiencing the historical and architectural beauty

of the monuments of India by paying a visit to Qutab Minar, popularly known as
the leaning beauty. It indeed was a magnificent sight to see the tall pillar
standing upright with all its majesty and strength even after so many years of
its construction. The iron pillar that never rusts was another fascinating sight.
The visit to Delhi would be incomplete if one does not pose next to the India
gate and we definitely did not miss out on that opportunity.
The next many hours seemed to be a never ending travel as we proceeded
towards our next destination, Manali. However all our complaints were forgotten
as we reached Manali and were carried away by the breathtaking sight of
beautiful mountain ranges and the fresh flowing rivers of the Himachal. What a
sight it was, indeed! The rest of the day was followed by visiting nearby places.
The next day we travelled to Kullu for visiting the Shawl factory and we
were totally unaware that we were in for the best experience of our lives. We
stopped on our way to enjoy the river rafting. It was my first and best ever
experience as we enjoyed every minute of the ride filled with thrill and truly
exhilarating cries as we rushed flushed and waved for about 9 kilometers
through the alluring river.
We visited the Shawl factory and also enjoyed purchasing some
beautifully designed shawls as souvenirs. We were then back on our journey,
travelling towards Dharamshala. We enjoyed the cool breeze as we climbed our
way to the top of the mountain and reached out hotel. We did not bother to
rest as we quickly freshened up to have our lunch and go for local sightseeing.
We enjoyed our walk towards the marketplace by watching the culture, attire
and language of the Himachalis and we then made our visit to the Monastery.

Speaking with the monks and learning about their culture and practices was
indeed a delightful experience.
We check-out of our rooms the next day and made our way to Norbulinga
Institute which was set up with the intention of preserving the Tibetian culture
and teaching the various arts with which the Tibetian community and families
can earn a living. The paintings and art works were very dramatic and stunning.
It was a wholesome and very memorable experience.
The beautiful journey came to an end as we travelled to Delhi and
boarded the train back home. As we reached Pondicherry we bid goodbye to our
friends hoping to meet soon in college and share a lot about our experiences of
the Industrial visit. We are grateful to our faculties who took great care of us
throughout the trip. It was a memorable trip that was both enjoyable and
educative and we will cherish these endearing thoughts in our hearts forever.
