Introduction: The Master of Science programme in Engineering Management (MSEM) develops
future leaders of business and industry for a technological environment. The programme blends a
carefully chosen mix of Engineering and Business courses.
The MSEM programme is designed to offer one of the most appropriate management degrees for
those individuals who would like to advance to managerial positions and wish to acquire the
necessary knowledge and skills for success. The MSEM curriculum integrates theoretical
concepts, case studies and computer software in a simulated business environment where
students are challenged to make decisions that have organisational wide impact. Students in the
programme will have the opportunity to use and learn contemporary software and specialise in a
chosen field of study.
Campus Address: The MSEM degree will be offered at the University of Technology, Jamaica
(UTech) at the Computing and Engineering Extension Centre (CEEC) within the Faculty of
Engineering and Computing (FENC). The full address is given below:

Admission Requirements: In order to begin the programme, a student must be accepted by the
Florida International University (FIU) Graduate School. The applicant to the MSEM programme
must have a bachelors degree or equivalent in engineering or a closely related field from an
accredited institution with a minimum of a B average GPA of 3.0. Alternatively, students will
either have to sit the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and score a minimum of 1000 points,
the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) with a minimum score of 500 or be accepted
under a conditional arrangement where students must pass the first four (4) modules with a B+
average GPA 3.25.
A completed application for admission must be submitted along with a non-refundable admission
fee of US$30.00 to the Computing and Engineering Extension Centre (CEEC) at UTech.
Application forms may be secured on-line at http://www.eng.fiu.edu/global/msemjamaica.html
or from the CEEC. Official transcripts of all previous college work must be sent directly from
the applicants previous school to the CEEC in order to complete the application process.
Xeroxed or notarized copies of transcripts are not acceptable. Omission of any one of these
items will delay the processing of the application. Admission decisions are made solely by FIU.
Students may provisionally begin the programme before being fully admitted pending only their
official transcripts and confirmation of a Bachelors degree. Students who are provisionally
admitted must submit all pending documents and information at least 30 days before the
completion of the first twelve (12) credit hours to be fully admitted into the programme. Any
student who is not fully admitted to the programme will not be allowed to continue taking
courses beyond the first twelve (12) credit hours.
All admission requirements must be met before a student is fully admitted to the programme.
Curriculum: The programme curriculum consists of 36 credit hours 12 courses of 3 credit
hours each. These twelve courses consist of 8 core courses and 4 elective courses embracing
engineering management, business, and advised electives.
Each course offered in the program shall be scheduled for a minimum of four weekends and
include a minimum of 40 hours of classroom and laboratory instruction. This schedule is based
on a semester of 15 weeks and 11 contact hours per week. The courses to be offered are as

44014015244. Receipts received must be recorded at the CEEC.
Applicants are required to submit to the CEEC a fee of US$30.00 along with their
application. This application fee is non-refundable.
Tri-monthly Payments of US$2,800.00 will be made on the same day as that of the
commencement date until the fee obligation of US$16,800.00 is realised. Students will
therefore complete their fee obligation in 6 instalments. A grace period of 10 working
days will be allowed to overcome dates falling on weekends, public holidays or UTech
closed periods. Should a student fail to make payments within the grace period allowed
he/she will be removed from the programme.
Lecture Rooms and Class Times: Classes will be held in rooms 1B2 and/or 1B3. These rooms
are located on the first floor of the FENC building in close proximity to the CEEC offices.
Classes will be held on weekends only starting on Friday evenings at 6:00 PM through 9:00 PM
and on Saturdays commencing 9:00 AM through 6:00 PM. Students will attend classes for four
consecutive weekends followed by a one weekend break. This frequency will be continuous for
18 months until the programme is completed. Students will be advised of any changes resulting
from Force Majeure, holidays or organisational adjustments.
Student Responsibilities: Student will be responsible for their own writing and studying
materials including laptops and texts. Refreshments will be provided. However, students must
make their own provisions for lunch on the Saturdays.
Library Facilities: Students will be afforded read-only privileges at the UTechs library.
However, students will have full online access to FIUs library.
Student Identification: All students will be required to display their identification badges at all
times while on the UTech campus. These identification badges will be issued to students after
they have gained successful admission to the MSEM programme.
Graduation Requirements: The graduation requirements for the MSEM degree are as follows:
Completion of the required semester hours of graduate level credit (no more than 6
graduate semester hours with a grade of B or higher can be transferred from other
accredited institutions).
Compliance with all the policies and regulations put in place from time to time by FIU
and UTech.
