I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day celebration and enjoying this thanksgiving weekend with
family and friends! As everybody is in the thanksgiving mood I felt it fitting to reflect once more on the virtue
of giving thanks or thanksgiving. Saint Thomas Aquinas (from Summa Theologica, II-II, questions 106-7)
quoted the 1st century Roman philosopher Seneca who said that Among all our many and great vices, none is as
common as ingratitude and the most ungrateful of all is the man who has forgotten a benefit. Reflecting on
First Thessalonians, in all things give thanks, he notes that our greatest thanks are due to God for He is the first
principle of all our goods; secondly, thanks are due to our parents, for they are the proximate principles of our
begetting and upbringing. The degree of thankfulness in the recipient should correspond to the degree of favor in
the giver when there is greater favor on the part of the giver, greater thanks are due on the part of the recipient.
In judging the magnitude of a favor two things are to be considered, namely, the affection of the heart and the gift
itself.
Based on what is said above, the key to real gratitude is RECOGNITION - to be able to recognize the gifts that
we received. Failure to recognize would lead to ingratitude! Thats why our diocesan stewardship definition includes recognizes and receives Gods gifts. With this we are reminded that thanksgiving is good stewardship! Discerning on what gifts we receive from God is a whole year act, not just on Thanksgiving Day! But on
this thanksgiving weekend, for me, I am once more especially thankful for the privileges I have received: to serve
God as a priest, to serve you as your pastor, for all of you for accepting me as one of you, and the privilege of
another year healthy and strong to live a life of service. For all these and many more, thanks be to God!

Its All About Thanksgiving:

The idea of tithing is mentioned 39 times in the Old Testament
and 11 times in the New Testament. Yet, often we hear Catholics
complain that all their priest talks about is money. These Catholics
dont realize that the parish is not the priests parish, but their own
parish. This is where the change of approach in these peoples
lives with regard to the stewardship way of life needs to develop.
They need to know that the priest really is only an instrument to
help guide them along the way and to bring God into their own
lives.
I always stress we are given many gifts by God, but the most important gift is the Lord Jesus Christ. If Christ had not come among
us, we could never get to heaven. Christ cares enough to teach us
how to approach God Our Father. God left us the great sacrifice of
the Mass, the Sacraments, particularly the Eucharist, where he
joins His Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity with our body and
blood, soul and humanity in such an intimate way that well never
be closer to God.
When we are at the reception of Holy Communion, we can never
thank Christ enough for coming among us. We can never thank God
enough for sending Christ to us. This is the basis for the stewardship way of life. A thanksgiving.
Churches Construction 50 Years Anniversary this December!
The Saint Michael Catholic Church construction was completed
on December 11, 1964, the altar was consecrated on December 16
by Msgr. Charles Walsh, Diocesan Chancellor, and the first mass
was celebrated on December 19, 1964 a Saturday, and the dedication was set for January 24th, 1965 by Bishop Leo Byrne!
The construction of Saint Joseph Church in Arma was also completed in December, 1964, thanks to the efforts of the late Fr. John
Reinkemeyer who personally led the laborers in the construction

works. The first mass in the new church was celebrated on Christmas
eve, a Thursday in 1964 where Marcel Normand and his family were
the first to receive holy communion in the new church! The church was
consecrated on May 18th, 1965.
What a great blessing! God be praised! May we be filled with gratitude with these blessings of these two churches by our response of good
and loving Stewardship! Please take note: our new bishop, Bishop
Kemme will be here to celebrate with us our 50 Years Anniversary In
Arma on January 3rd, Saturday with the mass at 4PM, and in Girard on
January 4th, Sunday at 10AM. Both will be followed with a banquet
with our new bishop. Please plan on coming!
Advent Preparation
Its the time of year again that God has given us the opportunity to
start anew as the season starts! December is the busiest month of the
year but the more we need to set aside some time to reflect and pray to
prepare ourselves for the coming of Christ! For your planning I have
scheduled an Advent Recollection followed by Confession: for Saint
Michael, it will be on Thursday, December 11th at 6:30PM at the hall;
for Saint Joseph it will be on Thursday, December 18 th at 6PM in the
Church. The theme for the recollection is The Story of Salvation: Creation, Fall, and Redemption, following the format from Symbolon, a
program developed by Saint Augustine Institute based in Colorado. The
recollection will be about an hour and a half followed by Confession. I
will be inviting another priest to help me hear your confession. Please
plan on coming and prepare the way of the Lord!
Finally, coming up is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of
the Blessed Virgin Mary on December 8th, Monday. It is a holy day
of obligation. Our masses are 7:00AM in Girard, 12:00 Noon in Arma,
and 6:30PM in Girard. God bless you all! Fr. Roger

The Arma Community Choir
The Choir will be performing The Heart of Christmas, embracing the passion of those who lived the story, music by Pepper Choplin. The performance
will be held on Sunday, December 7th at 6:00pm at St. Josephs Catholic
Church. Refreshments will be served afterwards. Please join us for this
Christmas celebration! Free will offering will be taken to assist families with
food baskets and clothing.
