Enclosed you will find a Tax Invoice/Fees Summary and Confirmation of Enrolment/Academic
Summary for fees due up to and including Second Semester 2002. Please ignore the Due
Date column on the invoice payment for this invoice is due on 13 September 2002.
On the reverse side of this letter you will find answers to students frequently asked questions
about this invoice. Should you have any questions that are not covered here, please call

Why does my invoice include some items with negative amounts?


The RMIT Tax Invoice is also a statement of account. In other words, all transactions
that have occurred on your student account, including corrections and adjustments
made by RMIT staff, are displayed. Therefore please disregard any items that are
cancelled by a reversal of the same amount.

I changed my enrolment through the year. How do I know if Im being charged


correctly?
Your invoice has been calculated based on the courses listed on your Academic
Summary. If you believe that your enrolment details on your Academic Summary are
incorrect, please contact your Student Administration Office.

What is SSAF?
SSAF is Student Services and Amenities Fee which helps fund various studentfocussed services and resources.

How are my fees calculated?


Tuition Fees
This invoice covers the whole of 2002, i.e. courses completed in first semester and
courses for which you are enrolled in second semester, as well as any outstanding
second semester 2001 courses.
Tuition Fees are calculated according to the number of contact hours involved in your
studies (the standard rate is $1 per contact hour) AND whether your personal situation
entitles you to fee waivers or discounts. TAFE tuition fees are subject to maximum
charges, regardless of how many courses you undertake for the year. For example,
students who are not entitled to any discounts or waivers enrolled in standard courses,
can only be charged a maximum of $500 for the year.
SSAF
SSAF is charged at a standard rate of 32 cents per contact hour, however there are
minimum and maximum charges according to your personal circumstances, with an
absolute maximum of $115.
Material Fees
Material fees cover various materials used in your course, and are set according to their
cost.
