My name is Jiten Poojara and I am in my 4th year, pursuing my
B.Tech at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology IIT-Madras,
Chennai. My major is Civil Engineering and minor is Financial Management. I wish to apply for the post of an analyst. My non-academic interests include understanding the way business works and to pursue this interest of mine, I worked as a Business Analyst at PriceWaterhouse Coopers last summer. I also pursued an internship at J. Walter Thompson, in the marketing research division. These internships have helped to gain a broader perspective and look at situations holistically. I am currently working on my B.Tech project which involves the Analysis of Vehicle Ownership and Vehicle-Type Choice Decisions in Chennai. This includes framing of questionnaire, conducting consumer surveys in nearly 2000 households in Chennai, for which I am leading a team of 40, and the subsequent analysis using advanced statistical tools. Other than the normal factors considered I am also considering price v/s cost, social status and peer pressure as factors that drive a consumer to buy a particular type of vehicle. A lot of hard work, perseverance and enthusiasm helped me perform well in the I.I.T-Joint Entrance Examination (considered to be one of the toughest examinations in the world) where I was ranked among the top 1% of the students. Further, an excellent GPA of 8.84 on a scale of 10, one of the highest in my class, in a highly charged, motivated and competitive environment at IIT Madras, I believe shows my firm grasp of the fundamental concepts, my motivation, ability and consistency. I have done courses in Principles of Management, Accounting for Managerial Control, Financial Analysis for Managerial Decisions, International Trade and Finance, Portfolio Analysis and Investment Management, Statistics, Probability, Mathematical Modeling, Economics of Industrial Organization, , Economics for a developing world, Marketing Research, Project Management and Numerical Analysis and Programming other than the Engineering courses. At IIT, I have done well in academics; I stand 3rd in a class of 45, without sacrificing on extra-curricular activities. I currently hold the post of Institute Alumni Affairs Secretary and my responsibilities include creating greater interaction between the alumni, the institute and the students. Besides this I have been involved in organizing various events at Shaastra (the technical festival of IIT-Madras) My long term goal is to use my skills to solve business problems. I believe that my strong analytical skills, which have been reinforced with my education at IIT, together with a background and interest in business makes me a strong candidate for the post of an analyst.
