Q - 3. Solve the following numerical problems

Draw the per unit impedance diagram for the power system shown in figure 1. Neglect
resistance and use a base of 200 MVA, 220 kV in 50 line. The rating of generator,
transformers and motor are

Figure 2 shows a generator feeding two motors through transformers and line. The ratings
and reactances are as under.
Generator 1: 50 MVA, 11 kV, X = 1.6 ohm
Generator 2 : 15 MVA, 6.6 kV, X = 1.2 ohm
Generator 3 : 25 MVA, 6.6 kV, X = 0.56 ohm
Transformer T1 (3 phase) : 40 MVA, 33 / 10 kV, X = 15.2 ohm per phase on h.v. side
Transformer T2 (3 phase) : 25 MVA, 33 / 6.2 kV, X = 16 ohm per phase on h.v. side
Transmission line : X = 20.5 /phase
Load A : 15MW ,11kV, 0.9 lagging power factor
Load B : 40MW ,6.6 kV, 0.85 lagging power factor
Select 30 MVA as base MVA , and 33kV line to line on the transmission line. As base kV,

Figure 3 shows a generator feeding two motors through transformers and line. The ratings
and reactances are as under.
Generator : 90 MVA, 11 kV, X = 25 %
Transformer T1 : 100 MVA, 10 / 132 kV, X = 6 %

Transformer T2 : Bank of three single phase transformers each rated at 30 MVA, 66 / 10


kV, X = 5 %
Motor M1 : 50 MVA, 10 kV, X = 20 %
Motor M2 : 40 MVA, 10 kV, X = 20 %
Transmission line : X = 100
Select generator rating as base values, draw reactance diagram and indicate per unit
reactance on the diagram

The one line diagram of an unloaded power system is shown in the figure 4 given below.
Reactances of the two sections of the transmission line are shown on the diagram. The
generators and the transformers are rated as follows:
Generator 1: 20 MVA, 13.8 kV, X" = 0.20 per unit
Generator 2: 30 MVA, 18 kV, X" = 0.20 per unit
Generator 3: 30 MVA, 20 kV, X" = 0.20 per unit
T1: 25 MVA, 220Y / 13.8 kV, X = 10 %
T2: Single phase unit each rated 10 MVA, 127 / 18 kV, X = 10 %
T 3: 35 MVA, 220Y / 22Y kV, X = 10 %
Draw impedance diagram with all reactances marked in per unit. Choose a base of 100
MVA, 13.8 kV in the circuit of generator 1.

Figure 6 shows the schematic diagram of a radial transmission system. The ratings and
reactances of the various components are shown therein. A load of 60 MW at 0.9 power
factor lagging is tapped from the 66 kV substation which is to be maintained at 60 kV.
Calculate the terminal voltage of the synchronous machine. Represent the transmission line
and the transformers by series reactances only.
