LISTEN UP INVERNESS!
Monster FM is back on the airwaves
Monster FM returns for 2015 on Mon 7th Sept and
the team are hoping to make their sixth year one of
their best. Over the 28 days of Monsters broadcast,
youll hear an eclectic mix of programming which will
tick a box for everybody listening.
Monster FM went back to school this year and worked
with two classes from Merkinch Primary School in
Inverness. They tailor-made a course which tied in
with what the kids were already being taught during
their term topics which were The Romans and Celts &
Local Wildlife & Wellbeing. From that, they produced
two radio shows, Roman Radio which you can check
out on Tues 8th & 22nd of Sept and Wild Radio
which you can catch on Tues 15th & 29th. Dont miss
the exclusive interview the kids managed to get when
First Minister NICOLA STURGEON visited the North
of Scotland!
During the holidays Monster FM ran a Summer
School giving wannabe DJs the chance to do
something a bit different. Over a fortnight they were
fast-tracked into the world of broadcasting and you
can hear their shows Mon to Wed, 79pm, Thur &
Fri 68pm. Some of the highlights of the Summer
School team include; RUAIRIDH who will be playing
you 2 hours of his favourite Modern and Classic Rock
tunes filled with hard hitting basslines and melodic
goodness. Using his expertise, DALE brings you two
great shows specialising in the music of the Marvel

movie series and he will also walk you through the

world of music and bands that are Big in Japan and
have also made it over in here the UK, including the
odd gem from Anime and Japanese cinema.
Veteran Monster presenter and Md Winner KERRIE
FINLAY returns for another year to present a daily
Gaelic Show Mon to Fri 45pm. Kerrie will also be
bringing you all the best in Celtic music with her
Weekend Gaelic Show on Sun 35pm. CLIFFORD
COOKE is also back presenting the Weekday
Morning Show from 10am1pm. And, his Theme
show on a Saturday from 13pm will have a different
musical feel each week and hell showcase his love
of the Singer Songwriters of the world every Sunday
from 57pm.
New girl, WINNIE, will keep you right every Weekday
Afternoon with her daily show, shell bring you her
love of all things Musicals on Sundays from 11am
1pm.. She hopes one day to work full time as either
a Presenter or Producer or hopefully take over from
Jenni Murray to do Womans Hour on BBC Radio 4.
Over the weekends Monster FM will be Banging
once again with 7 hours of the best dance mixes
from the best local DJ talent around courtesy of
Soundclash Mixes which will make your weekend
every Fri from 10pm1am and Sat 10pm2am.

Variety Show
Throughout this issue you can read all about the NAIRN BOOK & ARTS FESTIVAL
[1], running from 0106 SEP, which, as well as (not entirely unexpectedly) featuring
a plethora of authors, also finds visual art well represented. Indeed there are over a
dozen different art-related exhibitions and events, ranging from portraitist WILLIAM
MATHER offering to draw people on the street, through selected contemporary works
in a variety of media by third year Fine Art students from Moray College UHI and a
show of illustrations by graphic artist MARTIN FOWLER to a combination of poetry and
textiles by EILEEN CARNEY HULME and MARGARET MELDRUM called Scotland To
Sarajevo. On top of all that, many galleries will be open late, providing a social element
to the appreciation of art. More details at nairnfestival.co.uk
In recent months Inverness Museum and Art Gallery (IMAG) has really excelled with the quality
and scope of its exhibitions and again this month theres plenty on offer. SIMPLY PAINTING
(29 AUG10 OCT) is a deceptively, er, simple title for an exhibition curated by artist and
academic Jim Mooney featuring eight distinguished artists and focussing on the language of
abstraction and painting. Meanwhile FOCUS ENVIRONMENT (10 SEP03 OCT) showcases
winning entries from Scotlands National Environmental Photographic Competition for
Secondary Schools a touring show that has both provided an exciting way of encouraging
young people to take an interest in Scotlands natural habitat and demonstrated the wealth
of photographic talent out there. Finally, more excellent photography in an exhibition by
members of INVERNESS CAMERA CLUB (08 SEP03 OCT) focussing on the environs of
both Inverness and Culloden. The works display the diversity of talent and expertise found
within the club in a variety of applications in printed photographic media. And the photograph
of Kessock Bridge is magnificent.

ROMANCE

Dope legend & the Martian?

As per usual, heaps of films on show this month. First up, those showing at BOTH Vue and
Eden Court, you decide where to go: After last months Southpaw, JAKE GYLLENHAAL appears
in yet another awards-bait movie, EVEREST, joined by JOSH BROLIN, SAM WORTHINGTON
and EMILY WATSON in this tale of the 96 mountain disaster; ME AND EARL AND THE DYING
GIRL [1] is perhaps this years answer to The Fault In Our Stars, only critics-ratingly better;
Surreality and music combine in both ROGER WATERS THE WALL a documentary charting his
tour, and a one-off ROCKY HORROR SHOW LIVE complete with RICHARD OBRIEN narrating,
with many surprise guest stars, in celebration of its 40th anniversary.
Worthiest of note (by some measures) at Vue Cinemas will be DOPE [2], LEGEND [3] and THE
MARTIAN [4]. Now, same as you, I wish wish wish that was the title of a single film (without
the comma) but (alack), its three the first being a really refreshing-looking geeking-of-age
movie with the great TONY REVOLORI (Grand Budapests Zero), a star-making performance
from SHAMEIK MOORE, plus a great soundtrack inc. Digable Planets, Public Enemy, Digital
Underground and more; the second being Brian Helgelands Kray twins movie with a great
cast (led by the inimitable TOM HARDY, twice) and perhaps dubious motive; the last could
be described as Ridley Scotts take on Duncan Jones Moon also with a great cast (MATT
DAMON, JESSICA CHASTAIN, KRISTEN WIIG, JEFF DANIELS, MICHAEL PEA, KATE MARA,
SEAN BEAN, CHIWETEL EJIOFOR), in which Mr Damon finds himself stranded alone on
Mars, with only a couple of Snickers for supplies (is that irony?). Eek.
Eden Courts eye-catching offerings include the compelling-looking mystery-thriller, TRUE STORY
[5], featuring straight performances from usually-funny guys JONAH HILL and JAMES FRANCO;
that 2003 Iraq war world global protest documentary, WE ARE MANY (recommended); Andrew
Haighs 45 YEARS with CHARLOTTE RAMPLING, TOM COURTENAY and GERALDINE JAMES;
and their SCALARAMA series showing a series of classic films at the ticket prices of the year
of their release (2000s AMERICAN PSYCHO at 4.50; 1984s DECODER at 2!).

12

Also worth being aware of this month are: Woody Allens IRRATIONAL MAN [6] with the
irresistable combination of EMMA STONE and JOAQUIN PHOENIX; LIFE in which the awesome
photographer-turned-director ANTON CORBIJN steers great performances from DANE DEHAAN
and ROBERT PATTINSON as James Dean and Life magazine photographer Dennis Stock; a
new MAZE RUNNER instalment; MERYL STREEP as a rock star (er...) in RICKI & THE FLASH
[7]; EMMA WATSON, ETHAN HAWKE and DAVID THEWLIS in gritty psych-thriller REGRESSION,
which could describe JACK BLACKs career trajectory with THE D TRAIN; A WALK IN THE
WOODS Bill Brysons story with ROBERT REDFORD and NICK NOLTE; the story of the birth
of Greenpeace - HOW TO CHANGE THE WORLD; worthy what-would-YOU-do life drama 99
HOMES with ANDREW GARFIELD and LAURA DERN; MISS YOU ALREADY, an emotional
cancer and friends film with TONI COLLETTE and DREW BARRYMORE; and THE VISIT - a new
outing (and finally a return to form? perhaps?) from M Night Shyamalan.

Magician Mr Clive casts his spell and gets
everyone involved with magic linked to the
sea and its mysteries.

RODDY MACLEAN:
STORIES OF SEA AND SHORE

the warmest down or why the sea is
salty? Who was saved from death
by the oystercatcher, and which fish
fell out with Saint Columba? Roddy
Maclean tells maritime stories from
Gaelic tradition. Come and hear about
the Blue Men, the Golden Fish and
other Highland tales. Told largely in
English, with some Gaelic.
MIKE KENDALLMARINE BIOLOGIST
Mysteries of the not so deep. Nowhere
else in the world has seashores like
those in the Highlands; they are really
special. Mike will explain why and talk
about the strange, and often weird,
habits of the animals living only a
few hundred metres from the centre
of Nairn.
THERESE, MEL & KAREN: MANDALA
Mandala is Sanskrit for circle. Come and
join us and make a beautiful Mandala
on Nairn Links and then create your own

So what is there to do save play football in the street, create your own entertainment or,
as is most likely, devote every waking hour to really, really important things on anti-social
media? Well the NAIRN BOOK & ARTS FESTIVAL provides at least a few solutions. You can
read elsewhere in this issue about the host of events aimed at grown ups, but youngsters
are specifically catered for in the form of BOOKBUG sessions at NAIRN LIBRARY throughout
the festival which runs from 0106 SEP. Better still, SAT 06 has been dubbed SEASHORE
SATURDAY, with a wide range of kids events including making orchestral instruments out of
trash, magic from Mr Clive, stories of the sea from Roddy MacLean, lessons about marine
life from Mike Kendall, and a chance to make your own mosaic courtesy of Fi Rodger. No
booking required, but please bring along some items to use at each of the stalls. Children
under 11 must be accompanied by an adult. More below, full details at nairnfestival.co.uk

Fiddling Ahoy!
Whats on at BLAS [1], which returns from 0412 SEP? Well, if we had a couple of
thousand words to spare wed tell you everything, such is the wealth of talent on show at
this yearly celebration of Gaelic music and culture. Performances take place at venues
across the Highlands and Islands, from village halls to large venues like Eden Court
and even Inverness Airport. Highlights include SHOOGLENIFTY celebrating their 25th
anniversary, DICK GAUGHAN in Plockton (05 SEP), a festival- opening 70th birthday
special for legendary Gaelic singer ANNE LORNE GILLIES (04 SEP), EDDI READER in
Portree (12 SEP) and JULIE FOWLIS, MNRAN and others at EDEN COURT in a night
devoted to the songs of Runrig (12 SEP). For full details see blas-festival.com
Its quite a month for folk [2] and traditional sounds, with the always excellent KARINE
POLWART & FINDLAY NAPIER (both so impressive in Inverness a couple of months back)
at GLENURQUHART PUBLIC HALL on 23 SEP, the same venue playing host to ace Irish
acoustic guitarist JOHN DOYLE on 05 SEP. Then theres the much-loved DOUGIE MACLEAN
at UNIVERSAL HALL on 02 SEP, more accordions than you can shake a stick at at EDEN
COURTs BUTTON BOX GATHERING on 17 SEP and a whopping three nights at EDEN COURT
from 2527 SEP for the new young star of Irish country music NATHAN CARTER.
If classical music is more your thing, youll be excited at the prospect of NICOLA
BENEDETTI [3] at EDEN COURT on 18 SEP. Nicola has now established herself as
one of classical musics most prominent violinists, collaborating with major orchestras
all over the world as well as appearing at events like the Commonwealth Games
Opening Ceremony and replacing Nigel Kennedy as the medias go-to popular classical
fiddler. Performing with a first class ensemble of musicians, this concert includes two
seminal and cherished works from the classical repertoire - Vivaldis Four Seasons and
Tchaikovskys Souvenir de Florence.
More classical treats at EDEN COURT come in the form of the excellent HIGHLAND
CHAMBER ORCHESTRA wholl be celebrating their 15th anniversary on 05 SEP. Highlight
of their programme is a brand new work, Across the Albans, which consists of four Celtic
Fire Festival poems by Catherine ORourke set to music by local composer Helen Goodwill.
Finally, though the summer may be drawing to a close, the festival season isnt quite
over, with JOCKTOBERFEST [4] at BLACK ISLE BREWERY on 4 & 5 SEP providing great
food, fine ales and an impressive line up that includes WOODENBOX, IAIN MCLAUGHLIN
& THE OUTSIDERS and the soon-to-be-huge MAN OF MOON. More at jocktoberfest.com
Of course September wouldnt be September without the wonderful LOOPALLU in
Ullapool on 25 &26 of the month. No names announced yet, as is their wont, but you
might find a few clues at loopallu.co.uk

Now in its twelfth year, the NAIRN BOOK & ARTS FESTIVAL has quietly become a
cultural highlight of the year and now that the Inverness Book Festival has sadly
ended, its the best place to see and hear authors & speakers. Star name at this
years event, which runs from 0106 SEP is ANN WIDDECOMBE, the one-time
uncompromising Tory politician whos transmuted into something approaching a
national treasure after her appearances on Strictly and her much publicised love of
animals. She might be getting the most attention, but there are plenty more authors
vying for your attention, notably CHRISTOPHER BROOKMYRE, CARO RAMSEY, JAMES
OSWALD and LESLEY RIDDOCH. Particularly recommended are MARTIN FOWLER
whose Graphic History Of Scotland uses darkly satirical cartoons to examine the
countrys history, and RONNIE BROWNE, ex of The Corries, who some of you might
have seen at XPONORTH a couple of months back being particularly engaging. Its
not all about literature though, as youll note from entries throughout this issue
covering music, art, kids and even cooking.
For full festival details go to nairnfestival.co.uk
While Nairn Book and Arts is well established, the CULTURE DAY in FORRES is
relatively new. This years event on 26 SEP will see the streets, parks, shops and
public buildings of Forres come alive with a carnival atmosphere and a mix of street
performance, art, music, film and dance, plus much, much more. Over a hundred
artists will once again join hands with local businesses and community groups,
throwing open their doors and inviting people of all ages to see what they do all
year round, through performance, talks, tours, installations and fun, interactive
activities. For the full programme, including latest updates go to: findhornbayarts.
com/culture-day or check out their Facebook.
Another new event that looks like being a lot of fun is the HIGHLAND BAKE OFF on
06 SEP. Were all inspired by the BBC original so hopefully therell be plenty of talent
on show at the Highland version where those have already entered will have been
whittled down to finalists doing their stuff in front of a live audience. Following the
event, there will be a Tipsy Tea Party, which will be ticketed as will the final itself. For
full details go to highlandbakeoff.com
Were actually rather surprised that BEN FOGLE hasnt appeared on Celebrity Bake
Off yet since he crops up on just about every other TV show. That said he seems a
thoroughly nice fellow, possessed of both an old-fashioned spirit of adventure and
the knack of communicating his enthusiasm to audiences. Expect a fascinating
evening then when he comes to EDEN COURT on 28 SEP for CALL OF THE WILD, in
which hell recount his many travels. And dont forget, it all started up here for him
as an island castaway.

Rising To The Challenge

There are plenty of high class endurance running events around the country including many up
here, but surely the finest of the lot is the LOCH NESS MARATHON, [1] taking place this year on
27 SEP. Its a gloriously scenic run, beginning and ending in the city and as such attracts more
and more competitors each year. And well keep hollering demands that it be covered live by the
BBC until they finally see sense. The infrastructure around the event is second to none and once
again theres a Sports Expo at the Event Village in Bught Park (on both SAT 26 & SUN 27), plus
a Pasta Party during pre-race registration on the Saturday, giving you a chance to load on carbs
with a three course meal, advice from the experts, guide to the Loch Ness course, hydration
and nutrition advice and final race preparation tips plus a chance to take part in a Marathon
Mastermind with prizes to be won every hour plus live music. The Pasta Party is ticketed though
and you have to apply before 14 SEP. See lochnessmarathon.com for full details.
An even feistier endurance event at Loch Ness is the PRIME FOUR BEAST RACE on SAT 05 SEP.
Billed rightly as the worlds finest obstacle race view, the loch is not just a backdrop for an epic
10k course over rough terrain, dirt tracks and forest, but youll also be expected to jump in, drag
yourself through thick mud, over vertical wooden walls, scramble over cargo nets, squeeze through
tunnels and slide down a giant water slide towards the finish line. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
What do we call the Highland Derby when its away from Inverness? The Dingwaller? Whatever,
therell certainly be plenty of passion when ROSS COUNTY V ICT is staged on 03 OCT. County
have actually started the season the stronger and will be looking this time round to emulate what
Inverness did last season.
Theres no Camanachd Cup Final in Inverness this year, with the game taking place in Oban on 19
SEP, but that just provides a great opportunity to shine a light on womens shinty, their own Cup
Final Day being held at BUGHT PARK on 05 SEP. In fact both the VALERIE FRASER CAMANACHD
CUP FINAL and the MARINE HARVEST CHALLENGE CUP FINAL are being held on the same day
and at the same venue providing a great celebration of the womens game. It all starts at 1pm.

Actings Back
Strangely, in recent months theres been a paucity of theatre up here. Perhaps all the
thesps have been off waiting tables or queuing for Cumberbatchs Hamlet. Anyway, that
seems to be a thing of the past as this month provides rakes of dramatic events from
the traditional to the experimental and all points in between.
Few playwrights in the modern canon are as towering as Arthur Miller, so were looking
forward to the Rapture Theatre Companys production of ALL MY SONS [1] at EDEN
COURT from 0709 SEP. Starring TRUDIE GOODWIN (The Bill, Emmerdale) and ROBERT
JACK (Gary: Tank Commander), and with all the tension of a taut thriller, its a powerful
drama about love, loss and memory that remains one of Millers finest creations.
A whole different kind of theatricality at the UPRISE DANCE FESTIVAL taking place at
two distinctly different venues. On 04 & 05 SEP the acclaimed MARC BREW COMPANY
present (I)LAND on Roseisle Beach, Kinloss a piece inspired by desert island stories
like Castaway and Lord Of The Flies, while on 05 SEP at INVERNESS ICE CENTRE,
VERTICAL INFLUENCES sees LE PATIN LIBRE, fresh from Edinburgh combining the
virtuosity of award-winning figure skating with the attitude of street dance and the
sophistication of contemporary dance. Details at bodysurfscotland.co.uk
VISION MECHANICS are one of the most inspiring companies around as anyone who saw
their Drift in Nairn will testify. Theyre back indoors at UNIVERSAL HALL, FINDHORN for
IN HER SHADOWS, a dance-mindscape combining aerial and physical theatre with a
visual performance that explores a young womans relationship with the complexity of
her depression whilst challenging the stigmas that surround it.
If youd prefer something a bit cheerier, you cant go wrong with OUR LADIES OF
PERPETUAL SUCCOUR [3] at EDEN COURT (1819 SEP) which sees Vicky Featherstone
returning to direct at the National Theatre of Scotland, with Billy Elliot author Lee Hall in
an adaptation of Alan Warners excellent novel about Catholic schoolgirls on a trip to the
capital that goes horribly/hilariously wrong. Features music by Handel, Bach and ELO
which is quite some achievement.
Sticking with the more uproarious end of proceedings, VIVA LAS DEVAS at EDEN COURT
on 20 SEP finds our glammed-up cover stars, SUPREME FABULETTES [4], covering
classic hits as well as some specially composed by Boy George with William Baker,
creative director to Kylie Minogue, at the helm. Camp as. And all the better for it.
Its quite a month for musical tribute acts crossing that divide between theatre and straightforward performance, JOHNNY CASH, THE BEATLES, BILLY JOEL and DIRTY DANCING all getting
the treatment at EDEN COURT, best of the bunch being JANIS JOPLIN: FULL TILT [5] ( 224 SEP).
Finally a word for FLORIAN THEATRES production of A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON
THE WAY TO THE FORUM from 15-19 SEP. That word? Hilarious.

EATING

Scotch & Rye

21 Queensgate, Inverness
Beards. We love em. Heck, we INVENTED
them up here, sported by woodsmen,
sailors and riggers alike, marking them out
as sons of the soil, siblings of the sea or
just folk trying to keep warm in the brutal
Highland climate. Nowadays though, every
male under thirty seems to have some
sort of face furniture, along with random
tattoos that definitely wont look as dated
in a years time as those massive earlobe
holes, no siree.
This is, of course, all the fault of The
Hipster, the subcultural phenomenon
that began in New York before being
appropriated by East Londoners and taken
to ludicrous extremes. So well-meaning
and inventive impulses turned swiftly into
the kind of absurdities only a heartbeat
away from the parody TV show that was
Nathan Barley. People really are riding
penny-farthings to cafes that only sell
cereals while dressed in lederhosen with
packs of dachshunds in tow.
As is always the way, the phenomenon has
filtered down to the mainstream, hipster
chic now pretty much the dominant force in
creative culture, albeit toned down. Hence
the look being appropriated by everyone
from professional footballers to the kids
behind the counter at McDonalds. And its

also been riffed on by just about every new

restaurant in the country, usually in the
form of serving food on everything from
chopping boards to ping pong bats and
coal shovels, as marvellously documented
on the @WeWantPlates Twitter site.
Thing is, the whole hipster restaurant
impulse was born out of a genuine desire
to take the stuffiness out of the dining
experience, aiming for a return to the downhome excellence of the joints featured on
the Diners, Drive Ins and Dives TV show or
places frequented by Man Vs Foods Adam
Richman. Its just that somewhere along
the way the good intentions got subsumed
by gimmickry.

considered unnecessary, thus sowing the

seeds of their own downfall before theyve
even started.

Some people do get it right though,

which brings us to Scotch & Rye,
subtitled Cocktail & Kitchen. The people
behind it have seen the first shoots of
hipster culture finally emerging in various
Inverness bars with varying degrees of
success and decided to celebrate and
reflect what made it so good in the first
place. So they flew to America and did their
research before opening.

Its not tempting fate to proclaim that

thats very unlikely to happen this time
round. Money has obviously been spent
on refurbishment, bringing a light, airy feel
to what was a large, but scruffy interior,
with elegantly weathered design details
and a cohesive vision of somewhere that
really does look like it could have been
transplanted from Brooklyn.

An obvious thing to do you might think,

but something that so many aspiring
restaurateurs here might have blithely

Its making sure that things are done

properly, right from the off, that looks likely
to make Scotch & Rye a success and
even within a couple of weeks of opening
the fact that there are a healthy number
of lunchtime punters appears to bear
that out. Its even more impressive since,
despite its perfect location in the heart of
town, this has been a notoriously difficult
space to make a success of. Countless
enterprises have come and gone, limping
into some semblance of life before pulling
the shutters down almost immediately.

As does the menu. You almost feel like

punching the air when you see
a selection of food on offer that

instead for one of the fabled two-handers in

the form of a Chilli Dawg and again it turns
out to be an inspired choice. Top quality
bratwurst is served on a wholemeal sub,
smothered in an excellent chilli con carne,
something called tobacco onions (which
turn out to be merely superior fried onions)
and lashings of spicy Sriracha sauce,
something that for many of us is a kind of
highly addictive culinary crack. Again its
something delivered with sublime American
authenticity, making you feel ready to climb
into your pick-up and drive across State line
just for the goldarned heck of it.
Puddings are the least successful part
of the enterprise, but perhaps thats
also something reflective of American
cuisine. Just about everything comes with
marshmallows and a hefty hit of sugar,
none more so than my companions
Nutella Pizza. A sweet pizza base covered
in what appears to be a whole jar of said
nutty chocolate spread and marshmallows,
with fresh strawberries providing some sort
of fruity presence, albeit as ineffective as
Obama trying to get Healthcare past the
Senate.
My Maple Waffle Stack is surprisingly for
an American staple, somewhat stingy,
two waffles not really constituting a stack,
even in my lily-livered Limey book. Still, the
waffles themselves are nice enough and
the accompanying ice cream top notch.
Its a slightly disappointing end to what,
for those of us who like meat at least,
has been a hugely impressive meal. Great
service, a well-designed space that will be
just the place to head for everything from
intimate drinks and quick bites to parties
and blow outs and, best of all, some
excellent, perfectly cooked real American
food. Head along and see how good it is.
You dont even need to grow a beard.

Alright me old China?

Get in on the new trend for original cheeky ceramics...

Half of you are still knocking dining rooms into kitchens, whilst half are embracing
the new re-instate-the-dining-room concept. But either way, give some thought to
what kind of crockery you re going to set out on that breakfast bar or post-open plan
statement table. Are you going to stick with that dinner set you got from IKEA/Tesco in
the sale/the in-laws for the wedding? Or are you ready to break free and embrace the
new trend for more creative ceramics? Right now there is an explosion of fun, funky, f d
up and freaky plates, mugs, cups and bowls - not to mention vases and pots. Here are six
ceramicists (some saucy, some stylish) that caught our eye with some examples:
#1 KINSKA - Fringe Cappuccino Cup (wonky black cup) and Primitive Bowl with 3d
Nose. (etsy.com/kinskashop)
#2 BEN MEDANSKY - Morning Wood Mug and Vessel // Noaa Ii (benmedansky.com)

Registering as a landlord with the local authority.
You must renew your registration every three years.

landlord and you could incur a fine of up to 50,000.
Electrical safety check. This is required prior to rental

Preparation of an Energy Performance Certificate.
This requires to be displayed at the property prior to
rental, and must be renewed every 10 years.

Landlords Gas Safety Inspection (if the property is
serviced by gas). This is required on an annual basis.
Installation of hard wired and interlinked smoke
detectors.
The Immigration Act 2014 comes into force in
2015 and requires private landlords to check the
