MEANING OF CITIZEN, SUBJECT, ALIEN, AND NATIONAL
A citizen is a member of a political community who enjoys full social, political
economic and cultural rights, and is accorded protection inside and outside the
territorial jurisdiction of the state. In monarchy, he is often called a subject. An
alien is a citizen of a country who is residing in or passing through another country.
A national is one who owes allegiance to a state,without thereby becoming a citizen
of the host country.
WHO ARE THE CITIZENS OF THE PHILIPPINES ?
According to Sec.1, Art.4,of the Philippine constitution, the following are
citizens of the Philippines
1. Those who are citizen of the Philippines at the time of the adoption of this
Constiution;
2. Those whose fathers or mothers are citizens of the Philippines
3. Those born before January 17, 1973, of Filipino mothers, who elect
Philippines citizenship upon reaching the age of majority; and
4. Those are naturalized in accordance with law.
CITIZENSHIP BY BLOOD RELATIONSHIP/PLACE OF BIRTH:
1. Jus Sanguinis blood relationship is the basis for acquiring citizenship.
2. Jus soli or loci place of birth is the basis for acquiring for citizenship.
