Background
The growth of Municipal Solid Waste has outpaced the growth of
our population due to increasing urbanization, industrialization
resulting in change in lifestyles, food habits & living standards. The
increase in non-degradable waste is alarming. The production and
consumption of non-degradable material in our lifestyle have
increased many fold, and finds a way out in Dumpsites. Urban
Local Bodies have the massive challenge of managing this Solid
waste as per the Municipal Solid Wastes (Managing & Handling)
Rules 2000.
MSW (Managing& Handling) Rules 2000 are applicable to every municipal authority
responsible for collection, segregation, storage, transportation, processing and disposal of
municipal solid waste. The Rule contain 4 Schedules
