ASSIGNMENT QUESTIONS

With reference to your organization OR an organization of your choice, answer the following questions. Your answers
must cover all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria.

Q1. To cover 1.1 you are required to:-

 Briefly introduce your organization (about 50 words) and explain how financial data can be obtained and what
recommendations you will make to assess its validity. (Total words 400 including 50 for introduction)

Q2. To cover 1.2, 1.3 & 1.4 you are required to:-

 Describe what information is provided by Profitability Ratios, Liquidity Ratios, Efficiency Ratios & Investment
ratios. (1000 words)
 Obtain latest available financial statements of a public company of your choice. Analyze the financial data by
calculating any 10 ratios, and comment on the financial health of the company. (600 words for comments)

Q3. To cover 2.1 & 2.2 you are required to:-

 Explain differences between; a)Conventional Budget and Zero based budget &; b)Fixed budget and flexible
budget. (200 words)
 Describe Sale Budget, Production Budget & Labour budget and identify the concerned constraints by assuming
necessary figures. (300 words)

Q4. To cover 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 & 3.4 you are required to:-

 Discuss how a financial proposal can be evaluated? (200 words)


 Describe how the following tools can be applied to analyze financial viability of a proposed project keeping in
view strategic objectives of the organization: (600 words)
o Break even analysis
o Pay back period method
o Net present value method.

LO1: Be able to analyse financial data.

1.1 Determine how to obtain financial data and assess it validity
1.2 Apply different types of analytical tools and techniques to a range of financial documents and formulate conclusions
about performance levels and needs of stakeholders
1.3 Conduct comparative analysis of financial data
1.4 Review and question financial data

LO2: Be able to assess budgets based on financial data to support organizational objectives.
Assessment Criteria
2.1 Identify how a budget can be produced taking into account financial constraints and achievement of targets, legal
requirements and accounting conventions
2.2 Analyse the budget outcomes against organization objectives and identify alternatives.

LO3: Be able to evaluate financial proposals for expenditure submitted by others.


Assessment Criteria
3.1 Identify criteria by which proposals are judged
3.2 Analyse the viability of a proposal for expenditure
3.3 Identify the strengths and weaknesses and give feedback on the financial proposal
3.4 Evaluate the impact of the proposal on the strategic objectives of the organisation

General Instructions

To address the Learning Outcomes/Assessment Criteria you are required to make statements as a Strategic Manager and
Leader which demonstrate that you have fulfilled the Learning Outcomes/Assessment Criteria.

Your statements in answer to the question need to be prefixed with the relevant Learning outcomes/Assessment criteria
title. This will help you keep on track and should ensure you address the details. Work submitted without learning
outcomes/assessment criteria prefix will be returned unmarked.

Your statements should not be just a description of work place activities but should include what you have learned from
your programme of study. In other words you need to show how you can relate what you have learned to day-to-day
management activities.

In total, it is suggested that your report should not be less than 3000 and not more than 3500 words ,
although learners
may complete a larger, more in-depth piece of work if this is appropriate. The word count does not include front page,
references/bibliography and appendices.

You should make appropriate use of tables, graphs, diagrams, Gantt charts, flowcharts etc. You must make sure that you
reference any sources you have used to complete this assignment; listing reference material and web sites used.

You must submit your work as an electronic document (.doc file). Office 2007 users must save their work in compatibility
mode. Assignments must be submitted to individual teachers via email. Respective teachers will confirm receipt via email.
Email addresses of all CMI teachers are available in the Academics folder. You are strongly advised to keep a copy of your
completed assignment as you may be required to reproduce it at a later stage. Your assignment may be kept by the Institute
for quality assurance purposes. Any assignment not kept for quality assurance will be securely deleted.

You are required to include a title page with all your assignments. A template of the title page is available in the Academics
folder.

Submission time & Date for the assignment is Tuesday 5:00 pm, 22 December 2009. Failure to submit assignments in time
will result in penalties being imposed.
