    I hope all of you had a wonderful Fall Break, and that your friends and families came through last week's flooding with little or no damage.

    The Duckenfield Family

    Several important events are being held this week and next. Tonight
    (Wednesday, October 14), Clemson inaugurates its new Diversity Lecture
    Series by hosting Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, President of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Dr. Hrabowski is a prominent educator and civil
    rights leader, and his remarks will be a very important contribution to the
    current discussion of diversity in higher education, both at Clemson and
    across the country. Don't miss it (7pm, Brooks Center Theatre).
    On the same theme, please join us for a lecture by Prof. W. Fitzhugh Brundage (University of North Carolina Department of History) on "What Is To Be
    Done With the Commemorative Landscape of the American South?" The
    lecture will be held on Thursday, October 16 at 6pm in Hardin Hall Auditorium. We hope to see you there.
    Next week, please be sure to attend the Educational Enrichment Travel
    Grant Poster Forum (Tuesday, October 20, 4-6pm in Hendrix Ballrooms A
    and B). This is a great opportunity to see how Honors College students spent
    their summer vacations--learning, interning, and contributing to causes
    around the world. It's a chance to support your friends, and to gather ideas
    of how you, too, can enrich your educational experience with an Honors
    College Travel Grant!

    Ace Teaching Fellows Program


    In ACE Teaching Fellows, passionate college graduates from
    nearly all majors serve children and families as teachers in underresourced Catholic schools and grow as leaders while earning a
    cost-free Masters from Notre Dame.

    In its twenty-two years, ACE has selected graduates from 200 colleges and universities across the country and around the world

    All ACE teachers take intensive courses on Notre Dame's campus


    during their two summers in the program and live in community with
    other ACE participants during the academic years .

    ACE teachers will regularly become varsity coaches, take on leadership positions with extra-curriculars like Student Council or Campus
    Ministry, and act as mentors for their students. ACE teachers will
