FADE IN:
INT. RESTAURANT - NIGHT (PRESENT)
Low lighting. Tables set for two. Very elegant and romantic.
In the center of the room is a GIANT AQUARIUM filled with an
assortment of exotic sea creatures periodically floating by.
A MAN [early 30s, gray suit, orange tie] and a WOMAN [late
20s, black and white striped dress] sit close at a table.
The Man pours her more coffee. Smiles. He then pushes the
check over to her, still smiling.
As the Woman searches through her purse, a SCUBA DIVER in
the aquarium drifts toward their table, his GREEN HAIR
floating wildly around his face. He holds a
SIGN -- that says:
Lori, youre my perfect catch. You belong with me not him!
The Man sees, turns angry and waves for the Scuba Diver to
go away. The Scuba Diver refuses, shaking his head.
The Man keeps motioning him away,
shaking his head and the woman is
through her purse. As the gesture
creeps up behind the Scuba Diver,

the Scuba Diver keeps

preoccupied, rummaging
fight continues, a shadow
growing closer and larger.

The Woman looks up and sees the Man giving the aquarium the
finger. She follows his gaze just in time to see a SHARK
SWOOP IN, SNATCH up the Scuba Diver and drag his body away.
The water in the tank turns to red. Off the Womans face,
horrified. She opens her mouth to scream, but instead a HORN
SOUNDS.

EXT. SYRACUSE, NEW YORK - 1898 - DAY (ESTABLISHING)
A steam-powered train barreling through the middle of
downtown. It slows somewhat, passing shops, houses and
people going about their day. Overcrowded and dirty.

INT. WORKSHOP - DAY

The walls shake as the train passes. The room is filled with
wood and brass furnishing. Little decor, but a total mess.
ARTHUR [short green hair, singed at the tips] sits at his
worktable cluttered with miscellaneous items: tools, a fob
watch, loose pieces of parchment, quill pens, ink, and an
old Egyptian abacus. His expression is far off, clouded with
imaginary blueprints and invisible calculations.
ARTHUR
No, no, no. This will not work.
Frustrated, Arthur slams his fist against the table. Screws
rattle and roll onto the floor.
Suddenly, theres a knock at the door. Aurthur goes to
answer it, opens the door.
A MAN, CHARLES [top hat, tailcoats, orange cravat] and a
WOMAN, FLORENCE [tight, black corset, long white skirt] are
at the door.
CHARLES
(to Florence)
And the next stop on our tour: the
devils workshop.
Arthur shifting from side to side, his social anxiety
heightened.
ARTHUR
Charles, must you? Im working.
FLORENCE
Youd deny a womans curiosity?
Shocked that SHE would even talk to HIM, Arthur stares at
her dumbly.
CHARLES
Come now, brother. We wont be a
bother. I even brought toys for you
to play with.
Arthur looks from Charles to Florence. Charles looks from
Florence to Arthur. Florence looks between them. Awkward
silence.
CHARLES
Dont be rude, Arthur.

Charles picks up a bag at his feet and shoves it into

Arthurs arms. He then walks past Arthur and into the
workshop. Florence follows behind him.
Florence looks around. Its an inventors paradise.
FLORENCE
Remarkable.
CHARLES
Madness.
As Charles and Florence explore the workshop, Arthur sets
the bag down on his worktable and removes each item, placing
them in a line: coaster brakes, drailleur gears, a Bowden
cable, a seat and bicycle parts.
ARTHUR
Do I want to know how you managed
to find all of this?
CHARLES
Its hardly a tale worth telling. A
gentleman bestriding a velocipede
had an unfortunate accident.
Charles circles a tarp thrown over a rather large
contraption at the center of the room. He pulls the tarp
away and reveals a brass machine with wheels and wings.
CHARLES
What in Gods name is this?
ARTHUR
(sarcastic)
Dont you recognize him? Uncle
Edward.
Florence laughs.
FLORENCE
I dont see the resemblance.
Arthur is dumbstruck and smiles shyly.
ARTHUR
Yes, well, he was in the war.
Looking between them, Charles is not pleased.
CHARLES
Very well. We should be on our way.
Im sure the others are wondering

where weve run off to. Florence,
we wouldnt want to keep your line
of suitors waiting.
Charles ushers Florence away, but she ducks under his arm
and goes to circles the winged contraption, intrigued.
FLORENCE
Dont you want to know what it
does?
CHARLES
Arthur does not speak the same
language as you and I. You couldnt
possibly understand his nonsense.
You might as well be speaking to an
ostrich.
ARTHUR
I may not be able to explain it to
you, but I could show you.
Off Florences face, lit with excitement.
EXT. ROOFTOP - DAY
Arthur peers over the edge and sees Charles and Florence on
the ground, watching for him. Arthur secures a pair of
goggles over his eyes and crawls into the winged machine. He
does the sign of the cross and starts the engine.
PEOPLE GASP when they notice the contraption zoom across the
rooftops and plummet over the buildings edge. People start
to scatter in fear, but the machine jerks upward and takes
to the sky. Onlookers erupt in cheers as Arthur dives down,
skims the surface of the canal and weaves around boats.
Arthur looks back and catches sight of Florence, smiling and
looking at him. He goes to wave, but before he can enjoy the
moment, he looks forward and sees hes headed straight for
the bridge. Arthurs flying contraption CRASHES into the
bridge over the canal and BURSTS into flames.
Onlookers are STUNNED. Florence, horrified, SCREAMS. The
sound slowly morphs into WILD ANIMAL SOUNDS.

EXT. AFRICAN PLAINS - DAY

Lifetimes later.
The blazing sun beats down on a clearing near a watering
hole. Some patches of green grass, but mostly dead and
brittle. Wild animals are scattered about, grazing.
A ZEBRA drinks from the waters edge. When she lifts her
head, water drips from her snout.
A gray BIRD with an orange beak and yellow rings around its
eyes, perches on the zebras back.
Further back is an OSTRICH. He moves awkwardly with his long
limbs and strangely proportioned body. Green blades of grass
mixed in with his hair.
The Ostrich twists his head back as if catching sight of
something in the distance. Suddenly, the Ostrich cries out,
awkwardly flapping his giant wings.
The Bird immediately flies off and the Zebra dashes away.
The Ostrich takes a moment to watch the Zebra get away,
mesmerized by her graceful leaps.
Then, LIONESS comes out of nowhere and tackles the Ostrich
to the ground. A second lioness follows and another and
another. Its a bloodbath.
ARTHUR (V.O.)
Crap. I guess theres always next
time.
FADE OUT.
