Treatment - Seattle’s 11 Story Masterpiece

This promotional video for the Seattle public library will be approx. 3 minutes in length. Children and adults alike are drawn to this

incredible masterpiece. Therefore, the story will be shot so that the promotional appeals to audience from five years of age and older.

This will be informative piece for everyone to enjoy time and time again. The new central library is not a museum but it’s getting the

same type of attention. Perhaps the most remarkable thing about the facility is that most people seem to love it, which is said to be

unheard of for Seattle. Seattle is a city that struggles with two very different personalities. One half desperately wants the city to be

recognized as a world-class metropolis, while others look down on globalization and cling to separating themselves from cities that

pollute the environment. These issues will also be noted or addressed in the promotional video.

Background and Need

The average person’s idea of a library would probably be a sort of conservative vision. A place that is extremely quiet, probably a little

stuffy, equipped with a librarian, who is anxiously waiting for someone to speak a little too loud so that she can exercise her disciplinary

strategies. Nonetheless, most people try to stay far away from libraries because they can be quite boring and confining. The story needs

to be told about this new spin on the concept of a traditional library. The new Seattle public library is providing to be a revolutionary

site. The design of the library is a story on its own. Its design emphasizes the power of knowledge and invites new possibilities for

community. The new library is bold instead of trite, unabashedly modern instead of apologetically primitive. It marries outlandish form

with visionary function.

Approach Form and Style

This facility has lots of open spaces with several opening that supply a great deal of natural light, so it’s energy efficient. This facility

pushed the aesthetic envelope without offending the public view. Therefore, we would show the facility in different type of light,

meaning at different times of the day. Shooting at sunrise would be an indication of the rise of a new concept. Afternoon shots will be

largely dedicated to the vitality of the building. The library has a living room with a soaring atrium that is a diamond shaped window

and the view changes with each slant of the sun, passing cloud, or rain for that matter. Each weather condition will change the overall

look of the room and atmosphere. A Dutch architect named Rem Koolhaas designed the library. Koolhaas is regarded as one of

architecture’s most revolutionary thinkers, which is why the design is so extraordinary. The escalators are complemented with a

psychedelic attitude in green and yellow shades. Perhaps we would able to enhance this piece with color gels on the camera lens. The

overall feel of the promotional video will be strongly observational and mildly self reflective because there is so much to see and convey.

This library is arguably needle, with the enhancement of its proper function, and we intend to extend this message to all that are curious.

Audience Distribution and Marketing

Since this promotional video is so short and will be largely informative, distribution will not be an issue. There are several television

stations that have offered funds to contribute to dubbing materials and the like. The reason we have so many offers is because the

subject matter is of great interest worldwide. Due to the length of the piece it will be shown on station like CNN, The Discovery Channel,

all local Seattle news stations, and Comcast, which is a nation-wide cable service provider. Short promotional videos are usually picked

up because they don’t interfere with regularly scheduled programs, and can be incorporated in another program while it’s on the air.

Like a newscast. We also are looking to distribute to European public television.

Production / Project : Discovering 大韓民國 - The City of Seoul

Prologue

A program that provides travel related information feels like an old fashion in this internet world. I also don’t think the fact that using different

cultural resources always have an impact. However, as a foreigner, representing my own hometown to English based cultures is interesting,

and is valuable to try because it is not impossible to succeed with a definite strategy. I am here trying to propose and sell this program to

especially, the Travel Channel under the Discovery Network Communication.

Introduction

Over 3,000 years of the history are nestled in the temples, royal palaces, fortresses, and parks that cover South Korea. The Northeast Asian

Continent offers stunning landscapes and mix cultures of ancient and modern, the West and East. If someone is curious about touring Seoul,

one of the greatest and most advanced cities in the world, hiking in the mountains, exploring of the royal palaces, and looking for details on

visiting the DMZ, seekers will find them in this program because every worthwhile sight and activity in the city of Seoul in South Korea will

be covered in this program. No matter where the viewers are, they would want to go up to Seoul.

Treatment

This program brings the city of Seoul into the viewer’s home. There will be series of great perspective shots of particular landmarks and views,

and wide shots of the palaces reflection from lake with gorgeous color and composition. A female’s narration and music including Korean

traditional ones will lead the flow of this program. The viewers will indirectly experience the beauty of Seoul, and learn about their land,

people, culture, art, religion, history, government, economy, sports and many other important aspects. However, specific questions like costs

of foods, transportations or housings will be excluded in this program. There will be interviews with historians, religious people, economists,

governors and artists. Also, some file footages and still images from the Korean War and other historical events will be used. This program has

both educational and informational purposes. It is perfect for travelers, who search information, and it will be able to be used for particular

communities as an educational program.

● Stylistic Influences
In the case of landscape scenes of each segment, and travel related program formats, I got many inspirations from the programs

like the Travel channel’s “Exploring Taiwan,” “Going to Japan.”

● Sound
Narration with female V.O. and background music will lead the program flow. However, for following the mood of particular

scenes, or making the viewers to realize the feeling of places or situations, I also want to use un-artificial NAT sounds.

● Editing
As an introduction part, in the teaser, there will be montage sequence. Through the program, it will be lack of matching screen

direction from shot to shot because this program does not depend on continuity editing. It will be more artful, more

informational, but not a strong storytelling program.
