PREFACE
The Port visit, which was a two days visit to any one of the prominent ports in India,
organized by JGIBA every year for the 4th Semester BBA students. Every port is
assigned a faculty mentor and he/she is responsible for looking after students and
arranging interaction with the port authorities. This visit is scheduled so that the
students get a live demo or feel of the theoretical concepts taught in class about
trade logistics which would help in comprehending concepts more quickly.

Mundra was now to be transformed from just a marshy land to a world class port
infrastructure leading the way for the promotion of global trade.

1994, the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) approved setting up a captive jetty
at the Port of Mundra. In 1998, a joint-sector company, the Gujarat Adani Port
Ltd., was incorporated and multi-purpose berths 1 and 2 at Terminal I began
operating. MT Alpha-2, a small tanker was the first ship anchored on 7
October 1998. In 1999, multi-purpose berths 3 and 4 opened at Terminal I.
In 2001, the Port of Mundra signed a concession agreement with GMB for
development, operation, and maintenance of the port at Mundra. Also in 2001,
the private Mundra-Adipur railway line was completed and in 2002, it was
integrated with the Indian Railways.
In 2002, Guru Govind Singh Refineries Ltd. signed an agreement with the Port of
Mundra to handle crude oil in the port. In 2002, additional agreements were signed
with Indian Oil Corporation Limited to set up a single-point mooring facility and
handle crude oil at Mundra.

Mundra port, located in the gulf of Kutch in Gujarat is an all either, round the clock,
round the year, multipurpose port with a total quay length of 895 meters, the port has

four (4) berths ranging from 180 to 225 meters in length and 31 meters in width,
besides an 85 meters barge berth for handling a wide variety of cargo. These berths
can easily handle 9 million tons of cargo per annum on the existing infrastructure
facilities.
One of the deepest ports on the coast line of India blessed with a natural draft of 16
meters & capable of berthing capsizes vessels unto 150000 dwt.
Proximity to northern and western hinterland of the country which greatest over
420/0 of the total international trade of India. Mundra port is over 180 kms closer to
Delhi than Mumbai connected to NH8 of the national highway network.
Linked to the national railway grid through a self-developed 64 kms long railway link
capable of handling 24 rakes per day. Can area of 5000 acres available for further
developing the port back up related infrastructural facilities.
The port has implemented the IPMS as a single window port operation software
which caters to all the needs if the port operations. The IPMS system is best suited
to real time operation reducing the vessel turnaround time increasing efficiency of
cargo handling which results in lower operational cost if computerized the dry bulk
and general cargo operations of the cargo terminal.

SEZs offer a host of benefits that facilitate operations for in-zone industrial units.
Besides the Government of India benefits, the Gujarat government has also
designed a policy that offers added incentives to the in-SEZ industrial units. The SEZ
at Mundra will be spread over 100 Square kilometers, providing excellent flexibility in
are as follow:
100% FDI permitted through the automatic approval route except the negative
list.
Relaxed labor policy specifically for SEZ units (Applicable only in Gujarat).
Foreign investments allowed for items generally reserved for the Small Scale sector
Contract manufacturing permitted with units outside the SEZ or in other SEZs.
TAX BENEFIT
MSEZ & other SEZ units can avail the exemption on taxes which would otherwise be
implemented on the general business units. The following are the tax benefits which
are enjoy by the SEZ:
100% exemption for the first 5 years & 50% exemption for the sixth to
tenth (next 5) years.

Custom Duty.
Service Tax.
Entry Tax and various other State levies that would otherwise be
applicable on operations. Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) supplier is eligible
for export benefits on SEZ sales making the sourcing cost competitive.

A) DRY CARGO
Well designed and develop closed as well as open storage area for efficient and safe
handling of dry cargo commodity. Some of the salient points of dry cargo handling
facilities at Mundra area.
70000 sq. meters of closed storage space with a storage capacity of 170000 MT for
commodities like wheat, rice, sugar, fertilizer, etc.
325000 sq. meters of well demarcated open area in the form of concrete/hardstand
Kutch plots with a storage capacity of 700000 MT for commodities like Betonies,
Bauxite, steel, sheets, coils, pipes linker, salt, coal etc.
State of the art integrating mechanized bulk handling system unparalleled at any
other port in the country.
The export system comprises bleeding lines export conveyor belt and ship loader
with loading rate of 1000 tons per hour.
Import system comprises two mobile harbor cranes with Hoppers and import
conveyor with a capacity of 1500 TPH designed to handle a wide variety of cargo.
Wheat cleaning facility of 12000 MT per day and synchronized with the export
conveyor with a capacity of clean wheat for shipment.
Rice storing and grading facility of 500MT per day. Mundra port creates a record
handling highest number of rakes in the month of January 2007. It handled 268
rakes. Including the container rakes handled by MICI in the month of January 2007
the figure reaches to 346 rakes. Out of these 213 rakes were only of wheat discount.
Example: - Uricl, Fertilizer, DAP, Sugar, Wheat, Rice, Peas, Horse Gram, Green
Gram, Coal, Steel Products, Pipe, Blade, Salt.

B) LIQUID CARGO
Mundra port offers one of the largest liquid tank farm storage areas inside any port in
the country coupled with the most efficient bank up infrastructure the port offers
excellent to handle liquid cargo handling at Mundra area.
Seven 3.5 km long liquid pipelines, 8 to 24 in diameter connect berths to the tanks.
Pipelines with imported cup pigging system ensure smooth blow of cargo between
marine terminal and storage area.52 tanks with a total capacity of 27100 kiloliters for
storing edible oil, chemicals, glass, A/B/C petroleum product and . Bitumen.
Provision for heating in selected tanks for storing specific cargo.54 loading buys with
sophisticated volume dispatch system ensure no loss capability. Fully computerized
inventory management system with connectivity to weigh bridges provides accuracy
as well as speed.
Eg: - Edible Oil, Petrol, Diesel, Kerosene, Asian Gas, Ethanol.

Mundra is situated in the Kutch district of Gujarat, 65 km from Bhuj and 350 km from

The nearest commercial airports to Mundra SEZ are at Bhuj (65 km) and Kandla
(60 km).
Mundra Air Strip is a licensed Air Strip in Private Category with Air Traffic
Control (ATC) which is operated by Airport Authority of India (AAI).
Present runway strip is 1900 meters, which will be expanded to 4500 meters.
Approach and Runway Lighting is installed facilitating Night landing for Air
Crafts.

The infrastructure industry is dependent on natural resources and thrives in their
optimal usage and transformation for the development and progress of the society. It
is therefore the responsibility of the industry and the organizations that constitute it to
preserve and conserve the environment around their operations and as a
responsible corporate citizen, Adani has undertaken multiple initiatives and
innovations for the best protection and preservation of the environment in and
around our sites and communities.
The group has a dedicated Department of Horticulture which has pioneered the
implementation of the latest Iso-Dutch technique in India where a green zone has
been developed in highly saline sandy soil and water (35000-45000 TDS).
The Port Company, APSEZ has been recognized internationally as a World ports for
a better climate for implementation of green port ideology and for better
environment control in desert condition. Moreover now, APSEZL has been selected
as a member of C-40 world port. It has also won IAPH Busan Open Award, which
was held at Busan, South Korea in 2011 for its successful strategies for making a
Green Port, competing with 447 worldwide participants from port sectors.
We believe in clean and green power and Adani Power is the pioneer of supercritical technology in thermal power plants in India which lowers the carbon footprint
of our thermal power plants. Adani group is also Indias largest private solar power
generator with multiple sites across India.
Education:
Aligned with the Second & Third Millennium Development Goals i.e., provision of
universal primary education & promote gender equality and empower women
respectively, Adani Foundation endeavors to improve the quality of education by
adopting an integrated approach. Increasing and enhancing teachers effectiveness,
encouraging community participation and improving school environment by making it
child centric, friendly and conducive to learning are the three pillars supporting the
edifice of the education sector.

Program Support
The Foundation works towards improving the quality of education in Government
schools by adding value to the teaching tools, and imparting skill building training to
the teachers. Engaging with government officials on a regular basis, sharing of
information, experiences and ideas, seeking to increase their participation are seen
as critical steps towards relationship building and creating synergy.
Establishing and nurturing people led institutions like the School Management
Committees, engaging youth as a cadre of Education volunteers, undertaking
awareness drives and organizing interactive forums to increase self-confidence are
few of the multiple strategies adopted.
Material Support
To enhance the achievement level of students in school subjects, promote
information technology, inculcate reading habits amongst the children, improve
awareness about health and personal hygiene, facilitate active learning, encourage
creativity and all round development, material support is provided to the schools.
Foundation provides Reading corner/Library along with a set of magazines and
books for the library on a regular basis as well as health kits to the schools. To
facilitate better functioning of the schools and to improve the environment of the
school and classrooms, furniture and teaching aids are provided. Students of high

school who have to commute more than 2 kilometers are provided with bicycles to
improve access to the school. Female students are given priority in this initiative.
Infrastructure Support
The Adani Foundation recognizes the importance of adequate infrastructural support
as an important component to strengthen and universalize elementary education.
Provision of clean drinking water facility, separate sanitation units for boy and girls,
are few such initiatives to add value and bridge the gap in the existing government
system.
Health:
Adani Foundation is primarily engaged in improving the quality of health, through
easy accessibility of health services to the community. As a part of this effort, the
community is also mobilized to avail these services. Committed as it is to Health for
ALL, the Foundation runs special mobile health projects, variety of health related
camps and various need-based programs. It also extends need-based support for
government community health centers located in isolated areas. The Foundation
adopts a holistic approach while addressing key issues to ensure that the poorest of
the poor are covered under the ambit of the Community Health Initiatives.
To inculcate the habit of seeking health care amongst the communities and facilitate
improved access to quality health care services through innovative programs like:
-"Health Cards to Senior Citizens", for securing cash free medical services,
- "Health & Nutrition camp", for adolescent girls at door steps,
- "Kidney Stone" awareness, prevention and care project are initiated.

The company plans to extend the current runway at Mundra Port to 4500
meters. It has also installed a Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI),
and approach and runway lighting for safe night landings for aircraft.
Mundra Port Plans to upgrade an International Air Cargo Hub with night
landing Facility.

This is the first private four lane fly-over bridge within port area in India
capable of withstanding a load bearing capacity of 100 MT.

INTRODUCTION
Adani Wilmar Ltd. was the result of a 5050 joint venture between the Adani
group and Wilmar Trading Private Limited (WTPL) of Singapore, made in
June 1999, to enter into the edible oils business.
Under this joint venture, crude edible oil was to be sourced and imported from
Indonesia and Malaysia, rened at Mundra and marketed for domestic
consumption.
The main aim of the joint venture was to exploit the synergies offered by the
port ownership (Adani) and understanding of the international edible oil
markets (WTPL).
Within merely 20 months of its launch, Fortune rose to become Indias largest
selling edible oil brand, bearing that torch right up to this day.

OPERATIONS
The company currently operates 4620 MW coal based Mundra Thermal Power
Station at Mundra, Gujarat. It operates first power transmission project of 400KV
Double Circuit Transmission System from the Mundra plant to Dehgam (430 km).
The company operates India's first supercritical unit of 660MW. It also implemented
country's only private 1000 km HVDC transmission line for efficient transmission of
power to Haryana. The company produces 40MW of solar power in Gujarat showing
its interest in renewable energy. The company is currently implementing thermal
projects of 3300MW (5X660MW) at Tiroda, Maharashtra at Tirora one unit of 660
MW have been generating Power since mid of 2012 & another is going to
commissioned in the end of 2012 and 1320MW (2X660MW) at Kawai, Rajasthan,
and a 100 MW solar project at Surendranagar, Gujarat (40MW commissioned).

FUTURE PLANS
As of January 2011, the company has 16500MW under implementation and planning
stage. A few of them are 3300MW coal based TPP at Bhadreswar in Gujarat, 2640
MW TPP at Dahej in Gujarat, 1320 MW TPP at Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh,
2000 MW TPP at Anugul in Orissa and 2000MW gas based power project at Mundra
in Gujarat. The company is also bidding for 1000 MW of lignite coal based power
plant at Kosovo showing its international projects.

The west coast basin terminal is about 10 nautical miles west of the existing Mundra
port terminals.
The West Basin is being designed as an Import bulk handling terminal with
the capacity to handle capsize vessels. It is located geographically west of the
existing berths.
The basin will be developed in phased manner. Two deep water offshore
berths in Phase I Development and one additional berth will be added in
Phase II.
The Ist phase, West basin trial runs have been carried out on 12/12/2010 with
the berthing of its first cargo vessel M.V. CSK Beilun with LOA of 289 mtrs and
beam of 45 mtrs. With the commissioning of the West Basin, Mundra Port is
poised to become the world largest coal import terminal.
The West Basin Terminal has been built to meet the coal requirement for the
two mega power projects which have been set up by Adani Power and Tata
Power.

The West Basin Terminal will have an installed capacity of 33 MMTA in the
first phase which will be enhanced to 50 MMTA in phase 2.
The first phase consists of three capsize berths, the total length of which will
be 1126 meters and width of 38.82 meters.
The construction of the first two berths has already been completed and the
third berth is in final stages of construction. The berths will finally be able to
accommodate three capsize vessels of 325 meters LOA and 55 meters beam
drawing a loaded draft of 19 meters.
Four ship unloading gantries each of 2000 MT/hr capacity have already been
installed making it possible to unload a fully laden Capsize vessel within 2.5
days.
Two Mega Thermal Power Plants with total capacity in excess of 8600 MW
are being constructed in Mundra Region. The plants require very high
volumes of imported coal, up to 30 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum
(MMTPA).
In addition other dry volumes such as Iron Ore etc. are also to be imported for
the industries planned in the vicinity of power plants.

CONCLUSION
I hereby conclude that, the Mundra port is providing services of Export & Import of
various good considering dry cargos, Containers, Liquid goods cargo. They have
very good operation of shipping cargo. Their staff member, workers and their
services are very useful to all. They have direct effect on the countries growth.
