1. Talking about yesterday, using past tense regular verbs.
2. To engage and activate students in using the English language.
Structures: What did you do yesterday?
Yesterday, I...(verb)
Target Vocabulary:
yesterday, today, tomorrow, fantastic, great, played with my friends, painted a picture,
walked in the park, watched TV, jumped in puddles, played a game, kicked a ball,
danced.

Lesson goals:
In this lesson, the students will learn to :
Understand a text in English.
Use Past Simple to talk about past events.
In this lesson students will practice using the past simple tense with some common regular verbs.
Assumptions:
The Ss will understand the new notions and will quickly assimilate the concepts, thus solving the
activities with efficiency.
Anticipated problems and solutions:
The Ss may have difficulties understanding the use of Past Simple and of the regular forms of the
verbs. Possible solution: The T will give clear instructions and explanations at a slower pace in order
for students to understand what they read.
The Ss may have difficulties solving the exercises. Possible solution: The T will help the Ss by
checking their progress and explaining more on the subject.

Stages:
Activity 1: Warm-up Today-tomorrow-always
Aim: review past tense regular verbs
Interaction: T-Ss, Ss-T
Timing:
Organization: class work
Materials: calendar
Procedure:
- the T takes a calendar, points to different days and months, and asks what they are
- the T also asks the Ss to show her on the calendar when their birthdays are,
Christmas and other holidays
- the T points at todays date on the calendar and ask, What day is this?
- the T teaches the actual day (Friday) and today, then points to the days before and
after todays date and teaches yesterday and tomorrow.
Activity 2: Days Rope Jump

Procedure:
- the T lays a rope on the floor along the lenght of the classroom and faces the rope
- the T gets all the Ss to stand on the rope, facing the T
- the T jumps one step back and shouts yesterday, then jumps one step forward
onto the rope and shouts today, and finally jumps one step forward in front of the
rope and shouts tomorrow
- the T gets the Ss to jump, backwards and forwards as everybody shouts together
yesterday-today-tomorrow-yesyerday-today-tomorrow-etc.
- the Ss continue to jump faster and faster until it gets too quick to keep up
- next, the Ss are going to do the same thing, but the T is going to say the days
randomly
- the Ss must listen carefully and jump into the correct position according to the day
the teacher says:
Yesterday = behind the rope
Today = on the rope
Tomorrow = in front of the rope
- the T tries and tricks the Ss by saying the same day twice and go at different speeds
- as Ss make mistakes they have to sit out of the game until there is only one left the
winner.

Activity 3: Teaching vocabulary for verbs and the regular past tense form

- after the Ss sat down, the T writes on the board: Yesterday, I... and asks the class
What did I do yesterday?

- the T draws on the board a few things which she did yesterday, e.g. watched TV,
kicked a ball, played a game, etc. Using regular verb activities
- while the T draws, the Ss must say what they think each picture is
- the T writes the simple tense form under each picture, then with a coloured chalk
the T writes ed onthe the end of the verbs (e.g. Yesterday, I watched TV.)
- the Ss repeat the sentences
Activity 4: Practice saying past tense regular verbs

- the T spreads out, face up, on a table and get everyone to gather round
- the T starts off by saying, Yesyerday, I.... and select a flashcard and stick it to the
board
- each Ss must pick a flashcard of something they did yesterday and also stick to the
board
- the T points out a flashcard and elicits or teaches the verb with the ed ending, then
writes the word under the card and does the same with all the verbs
- the Ss must repeat each verb with the ed ending
