acceptable and valued world-over. We at BUITEMS are engaged in the task of developing an
institution of exceptional quality. We are determined to do that. Destiny demands an
educational revolution all over Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan; political reality justifies it;
posterity awaits it and INSHALLAH we will have it.
In order to develop the Engineering industry at a steady pace and on scientific lines, Balochistan
Government is fully aware of the importance and immediate need of education on training of
personnel in Engineering for extraction of minerals, coal deposits and developing energy sources.
Engineering education imparted at this university can help the students in exploiting the natural
resources on their own and getting rid of the vicious circle of debt and dependency on foreign
powers. All we need is excellence in engineering education by continuously grooming students
of engineering with sharp and effective skills required for the different growing industries like
manufacturing jumbo jets, submarines, textile units, computers and electronic devices. The
engineers produced would provide capable human resource for the oil and gas, mining and
mineral industries, dam building & construction, petrochemicals, textiles and fertilizer plants as
well as for other public and private sector organizations.
Our degree programs are much needed for Balochistan Province because the province has
vast natural resources such as minerals, coal, water, oil and gas. Our new students will find the
programs to be of immense educative and professional value in their practical life.

Deans Message
Prof. Dr. Syed Abid Hussian
Universities are among the most important engines of the knowledge economy. Not only do
they produce the brain workers who man it, they also provide much of its backbone, from
laboratories to libraries to computer networks.
Technology has been employed by human beings from early civilization. Those
civilizations progressed which excelled in technology and sciences and the less
progressive civilizations perished. The older civilizations developed cultivation,
irrigation and wheel, harnessing of metals from ore, use of coal as fuel, development of
minerals. Presently the major difference between the developed and underdeveloped countries
is the vast difference in the knowledge of science and its application in technology. Those
nations which excelled in technology are the masters of space, oceans and the world.
Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences was established in October 2004, and
renamed as Faculty of Engineering in 2007, on hierarchal academic setup and in depth
analysis of academic function by the present worthy Vice Chancellor, Engineer Farooq Ahmed
Bazai. It is located at BUITEMS Takatoo Campus (named after the Takatoo mountain nearby) at
Baleli Quetta in former Bolan Textile Mill. It consists of seven departments out of which three
BUITEMS
departments namely Textile Engineering, Petroleum & Gas and Chemical Engineering are
already established at the campus. Three new programs namely Civil Engineering, Mining
Engineering and Geological Engineering have been started from Fall 2008. Keeping in view the
city planning for the province of Balochistan, a five year degree program in Architecture has
been started from Fall 2009.
I welcome all the members and students of the Faculty of Engineering on behalf of BUITEMS.
Through the provision of quality engineering education, we intend to groom our students into
competent human resource for the exploitation of natural resources without having to bank
upon the expensive expertise of foreign organizations. A sound grasp of latest techniques
would not only help the graduates individually but will also pave way for the development of the
country into standard manufacturing base and dynamic industrial growth model.
In fact inshallah, development of whole country will be ensured ultimately raising the standard of
living and socio-economic conditions of the people.
Almost all the graduate programs are leading to eight semesters (four years) BS Degrees
except BS Architecture which is a ten semester (five years) program. Faculty intends to initiate
Masters and PhD Programs in the near future.

Department of
Chemical Engineering
Establishment of Chemical Engineering Department at BUITEMS was an urgent need of
Balochistan province, which needs industrialization at an accelerated pace. This is based on
the fact that this province is full of minerals, oil and gas resources.
One of the main attractions of Balochistan is its unexploited geological potentials. It occupies a
strategic location in relation to central Asia and sits on geological belts with known world-class
mineral deposits. Balochistan produces 40.2 % of the primary energy of Pakistan in the form of
natural gas, coal and electricity, of the total mineral fuel reserves of the country, Balochistan
contains more than 33 % of the natural gas, about 9% of the coal and about 2% of the probable
oil reserves.
A little has been done uptil now for the exploitation of these rich resources. This needs chemical
/metallurgical industries for the processing of valuable minerals and for the manufacture of
petrochemical products from the available oil and gas deposits in this province.

Department of
Civil Engineering
Introduction
Modern era is faced with numerous challenges to fulfill the social, economic, cultural and
environmental needs of a society. A new breed of civil engineer with new and fresh ideas,
technical competence, creative thoughts and imaginations will enable to build the foundation of
a flourishing society.
Civil Engineering encompasses almost every aspect of our lives. Paths and roads, on which
we travel, homes and offices in which we live and work, are all civil engineering projects. Water
and sewage treatment plants that provide us with safe water supplies require the expertise of
civil engineers, Construction of the dams and power stations that provide the electricity we use
every day requires civil engineers, In fact all structures, large and small, require the knowledge
of a civil engineer.
Civil Engineers plan, design, construct and maintain; from towering skyscrapers to heritage
buildings; from roads and bridges to railways and tunnels; and from power stations and airports
to dams and harbors.
Civil Engineering is considered to be the profession of past as well as the blooming future of the
future. The pyramids, Roman roads, and aqueducts are few early examples showing the keen
interest of man in the profession of civil engineering.

Department of B Architecture
Introduction
Program: B Architecture
Duration : 5 years ( 10 Semesters)
Chairman/ Professor: Dr. Ehsanullah Khan
MISSION
The Department's mission is to train students for embarking their careers at the
forefront of the dynamic fields of Architecture engineering. Upcoming challenges for
designing societal infrastructure of future involves accounting for complex
interactions between the history built, future requirements and natural environment.
BUITEMS aims to make students leaders in identifying emerging issues and to
develop innovative solutions to the engineering challenges of the future.
Function is the fundamental starting point for all architectural and design
expression.
Not many people who settle into a new home, building or any space, know or
ever meet the architect or designer -they remain anonymous. Reason is lack
of integral knowledge and exposure, along with sense of insensitivity towards
the art of living.
The idea that identification of place lies at the generation core of architecture
can be explored and illustrated. In doing this one can think of architecture and
designing as a 'language'.

river-beds are running high [37] according to their measure, the stream carries scum on
its surface; [38] and, likewise, from that [metal] which they smelt in the fire in order to
make ornaments or utensils, [there rises] scum. In this way does God set forth the parable of truth and falsehood: for, as far as the scum is concerned, it passes away as
[does all] dross; but that which is of benefit to man abides on earth. In this way does
God set forth the parables.
