Challenges: Overburden drilling with DTH has two problem areas
1. Pressurized air overdrills material. Overdrilling removes more material than
anticipated changing grounds original charasteristics hazarding nearby structures.
2. On the other hand air that is blown forward travels long distances in loose ground
or soft clay. This can cause severe settlements in near by buildings and structures.

The problem has been known from the very beginning but as in complex
ground conditions DTH drilling was often the only feasible method the hazards
were tolerated. At the same time problems in uderpinning projects, piling and
well drilling have already resulted local restrictions in the use of DTH.
But know when DTH drilling in construction industry is coming more popular than
ever and there are more new companies and unexeperienced operators involved,
the time has come to have air control build in drilling systems. Otherwise the whole
industry is in danger.

Scenes like this, where marine deposites are violently disturbed by compressed air,
will not be accepted by most of the contractors and most of the countries anymore

overdrilling made sidewalk to disappear and swallowed a pedestrian walking
close to piling worksite.

As a result of air escape and overdrilling the use of DTH hammers is
limited already in several city centers around the world.

Solitary ring bit systems for end bearing piles
We have suitable options available for every method of DTH piling. Most simple
systems suit for end bearing piles and are with solitary ring bit
End bearing pile

Solitary ring bits system has a separate casing shoe and separate ring bit.
System must not be turned anticlockwise before the pile has been finished.

Integrated ring bit systems are available with two options:
1. Both, ring bit and casing shoe have they own shoulders. As a strong structure this suits well
for standard applications where there is no requirements for Large ID through the ring bit
2. There is only one shoulder. Shoulder drives and rotates the ring bit. Casing shoe is coupled to
ring bit so ring bit pulls also casing via the casing shoe. This saves material for striking
shoulders in case of Large ID requirement and helps connecting to ring bit without pushing
ring bit against hard material and is thus especially suitable for off shore drilling

Integrated ring bit systems for end bearing piles.
Sacrificed systems for end bearing piles can also be drilled with integrated systems.
Integrated systems are easier to use than solitary systems but are slightly more
costly to make.

soft soils without the danger of loosing the ring bit.

Large ID ring bit systems for sacrificed casings
Sometimes casings need to have a large ID in the ring bit due to requirement to drill
through it. For those applications a special model with Large ID is used.

In Large ID ring sets all casing drilling elements need to be

built in very narrow space and might require special steel alloys

Retrievable ring bit systems
For retrievable casings we need to use retrievable ring bit/casing shoe sets with
HD
double shoulders made from special materials.

Retrievable multi use system are e.g. for

friction pile applications.

Large ID Systems for retrievable use are built for multi

use purposes with double shoulders and shaped
perimeter.

Large diameter rock bits
Large diameter rock bits are based on our own
innovative design.
- Aggressive center part goes ahead in order to
improve hole straightness from the very
beginning. Small face area limits travelling
around.
- In tilted face the second gauge button line will
bite rock straight after the center part and
hold direction. This also prevents collision
with ring bit in case of drilling rock socket
from casing.
- Flush Over design keeps buttons cool in
hard rock drilling

Drill string components are made mainly for large diameter drilling and typically
with hexagonal joints. Threaded joints are easy to use with smaller equipment and
are available everywhere. We offer a solution to large diameters with higher rotation
torque requirements and where hammer vibration would harm normal threads.

Rock socket grouting systems:
As a response to the requirements from consulting
engineers we have now developed as grouting
method to seal the void between the rock socket and
casing. At this moment the system is only available
for casings over 711 mm in diameter. One of the
unique feature is that we can grout the rock socket
also after casing is filled with construction steels and
concrete, this means that the casing bottom can be
verified to be clean.
Rock socket is grouted after casing drilling through
permanent piping and one way valves set to wished depths
