    Sport: Petanque a.k.a. Boule


    Mechanics:

    Players are divided into two teams composed of 1 to 3 players. After deciding
    who goes first, a player throws the jack the target which players aim for
    from a designated throwing spot. The rest of the game is spent trying to
    throw the boules closer to the jack than the other team does. After all the
    boules are thrown, the team with the closest boule receives a point for each
    boule that is closer to the jack than their opponents. The first team to earn 13
    points wins the game.

    Equipment:

    Jack (Ball):
    o Diameter 30 millimeters
    o Made of wood either beech wood or box wood
    Boules (Ball):
    o Diameter 70.5 millimeters to 80 millimeters
    o Weight 650 grams to 800 grams
    Circle:
    o Traditionally drawn into sand or dirt with a diameter of 35 to 50
    centimeters
    o Modern use promotes red plastic circles with a diameter of 50
    centimeters

    Traditional French lawn game.

    Court(s):

    Home Court:
    o No specific court for Petanque to be played since it can be played on
    any flat surface. No restrictions or regulations on the boundary as the
    game can be played either with marked territory or none. Boards or
    other materials, especially strings wound round nails are driven into
    the ground to mark the playing area.
    Competitive Court (Made of Gravel):
    o 15 meters by 4 meters is usually considered the standard size.

    Mechanics:

    Regu:
    o Opposing teams of 5 players (3 on-court with 2 substitutes) line up
    against each other in a best 2 out of 3 Sets to win the Match. The oncourt players compromise a Striker, a Server, and a Feeder.
    o Each Set is played over 21 points. In the event of a score of 20-20, the
    set shall be won by the side which gets a lead of two points, or when a
    side reaches twenty-five points, whichever occurs first.
    o Service of the ball occurs every 3 consecutive points scored, regardless
    whoever wins the service until a team reaches 21 points or 25 points in
    the case of a deuce. The game follows as the opposing team receives
    the service and the Feeder and Server attempt to set up the ball in 2 of
    the available 3 touches with the third touch being the return from the
    Spiker.

    o 5 inches in diameter
    Synthetic Ball:
    o 5 inches in diameter

    Mechanics:

    Matches can be played as singles, men or women doubles, and mixed double.
    Single matches are usually played by a one set, best of seven games system
    (the player who wins four games wins the match). Doubles are played by a
    one set, best of nine system (the pair who wins five games first wins the
    match).
    Rules of regular tennis apply when a player/pair wins four points. In the event
    of a deuce of three points, the game is continued until a player/pair wins two
    points continuously.

    Equipment:

    Soft Tennis Balls:


    o 6.6 centimeters in size.
    o Weighs around 30 to 31 grams.
    Rackets:
    o Almost the same with regular tennis except lighter, and more flexible.
    o Strings are usually the same material with that of a regular rackets
    except its more flexible and strung at a lower compression to suit the
    softer ball.
    Net:
    o Height of 1.07 meters from the court surface.

    Mechanics:

    In a sparring competition:
    o Punch an opponent with a clenched fist.
    o Kick any part of the foot below the ankle.
    o One may kick two places:
    Chest protector
    Head
    o One may punch your opponents chest protector.
    o One cannot punch their opponents head or face.
    o One cannot kick or punch their opponents spine or below their chest
    protector.
    The winner is determined at the end of three rounds (two for juniors) with the
    player scoring the most points or a knock out. If a draw occurs, the Golden
    Point is determined on whoever scores a point first; however, in the scenario
    that no one scores a Golden Point, the winner is determined by displaying
    the best technique.
