    Procedure to clean the Encoder Strip. This cleaning prevents many scan axis problems but not limited to: 86...
    series system error, 87... series system errors, false printhead issues and media loading errors.

    Details
    Clean Encoder Strip procedure
    1. Make sure that the printer is O and that the carriage assembly is located at the service station on the far
    right side of the printer. Unload media from the paper path.

    2. Use tap water and a small cloth that will not leave bers in the printer. Dampen the cloth and remove any
    excess water so that the cloth is damp but not dripping-wet.

    3. Open the window.

    4. Hold the cloth in an inverted "U" shape around the top of the encoder strip and carefully wipe until no ink
    residue appears on the cloth. Be very careful not to scratch the encoder strip with ngernail or any other
    object.

    Hold the cloth as shown below, in the appropriate folded "U" shape.

    5. Do not hold the cloth as shown below. Keep ngers away from Encoder Strip.

    6. Do not move the carriage assembly away from the service station.

    7. Close the window.

    8. On the front panel, select the ink icon, and then select Replace Printheads. The carriage assembly moves to
    the left and stops in the correct position to remove the printheads.

    9. Turn o the printer at the power switch on the back of the printer.

    10. Open the window and move the carriage assembly further to the left, allowing user to access the service
    station.

    11. Clean the part of the encoder strip next to the service station by repeating steps two through six.

    12. Close the window. When the procedure is completed, make sure to turn the printer back On and re-load
    paper when prompted.

    13. The printer will re-home on the Encoder Strip. It is recommended to run a printhead alignment: Menu path >
    Image Quality Maintenance/Align Printheads.
