TITLE: REPUBLIC ACT 9710 OR THE MAGNA CARTA OF WOMEN SEMINAR
II. RATIONALE: The various existing laws and policies to empower and protect women, and ensure equal rights and opportunities for men and women, have been strengthened further with the enactment of Republic Act No. 9710, otherwise known as The Magna Carta of Women. The Act, which is a consolidation of Senate Bill No. 2396 and House Bill No. 4273, was finally passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives on May 19, 2009 and May 20, 2009, respectively. It was signed into law by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on August 14, 2009. Considered as the Bill of Rights of Filipino Women, Republic Act 9710 or the Magna Carta of Women (MCW) is a breakthrough law that lays down the requirements for an environment where equality for women are ensured, and to comply with the said law, the Barangay Council of Bucana, through the efforts of the Gender and Development (GAD) Office, shall conduct an orientation for the Magna Carta of Women which aims to familiarize the personnel on pertinent provisions of the MCW. III. OBJECTIVES: The orientation-seminar aims to educate both women and men on the basic human rights of women enshrined in the Philippine Constitution and reiterated in Republic Act No. 9710 or the Magna Carta of Women, the local version of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination or CEDAW.
