Hydrogen Optimization Maximizes Power and Profit Generation

Distributed Energy Systems offers advanced technology systems to improve the
performance of power plants hydrogen-cooled generators. Our innovative
StableFlow hydrogen control system ensures active control of hydrogen purity,
pressure and dew point for optimized generator performance and maximized
profits, while our HOGEN hydrogen generation systems provide improved safety
and more cost-effective hydrogen through onsite generation.

HOGEN Hydrogen Generators

Onsite Hydrogen Generators For Power Plants

HOGEN hydrogen generation
systems increase safety and
security by minimizing:
Onsite hydrogen storage
Cylinder handling
Routine hydrogen delivery

Distributed Energy Systems HOGEN hydrogen generators utilize our unique

proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis system and electricity to
separate water into pure hydrogen and oxygen. Each HOGEN generator
continuously produces ultra-high purity (99.999+%) hydrogen gas at output
pressures up to 218 psi (15 bar) and at a dew point of -85F/-65C.
The compact HOGEN hydrogen generator can be placed on the generator
deck or any other indoor, non-classified plant area. Its unique design allows
the HOGEN hydrogen generator to contain virtually no stored hydrogen,
even when generating hydrogen at 228 scf/hr (6 Nm3/hr) meeting the
daily hydrogen requirements of power plants as large as 2,000 MW.
The HOGEN hydrogen generation system provides reliable, safe, lowcost hydrogen for generator cooling, giving our power plant customers a
payback of less than one year.

StableFlow Control System

Cruise Control For Your Hydrogen-Cooled Generator

Distributed Energy Systems StableFlow hydrogen control system is a
breakthrough product allowing the plant to actively control generator
casing hydrogen purity, pressure and dew point.
StableFlow hydrogen control systems integrate into your current
hydrogen supply and automatically control pressure, purity and dew
point. Actively controlling hydrogen at optimum levels in your hydrogencooled generator will:
Optimize fuel efficiency
Maximize generator capacity
Extend generator life
Provide safe hydrogen supply

StableFlow Hydrogen Control Systems are designed for simple installation

and do not require a generator outage.

Case Study

Mirant Dickerson Generating Station

Distributed Energy Systems conducted a case study at the Mirant Dickerson
Generating Station in Dickerson, Maryland. The study compared a bottled
gas, batch feed system to a HOGEN onsite hydrogen generation system
with StableFlow hydrogen control system. The charts below illustrate the
effect the batch feed process has on hydrogen gas dew point, pressure
stability and purity while operating in the gas delivery mode. Hydrogen gas
purity drops when pressure in the generator decreases and immediately
responds positively as new gas is introduced into the casing to re-pressurize.
The StableFlow hydrogen control system automatically and continuously
maintains dew point and casing purity above OEM specified levels.
