Mother at Home

This is the harvesting season. My mother who saw that my father was
harvesting in the paddy field alone, went to help him. I and my youngest
sister remain at home some fear. Our mother gets up early in the
morning, prepares our breakfast which is rice, and goes to the paddy
field with our father. They were in the paddy field even before the down. I
saw my parents were very much tired as they had to do a lot of work in
the paddy field. But they did not think of the fatigue or hot sun. Instead,
they were working. Because of the changes in her life style, my mother
seemed to have fallen ill. She once told father that her body was paining
and she appeared to have caught fever.
My father aids he could do the work in the field alone without her help
and asked her to stay at home and look after us. With reluctance she
agreed and stayed at home. But, unfortunately, even that time she had
got a fever and was unable to even cook. She said she was ill.
Father took immediate action. He took her, one day, to hospital to get
treatment for her aliment. But I saw in the afternoon that only my father
was coming Jump to home. He told us that our mother had been
admitted to the hospital as the doctor wanted her to that indoor
treatment. I and my sister became very sad. So was our father.
It was very difficult for all three of us to spend that night without our dear
mother. A household without a mother is not a household. My sister went
to the kitchen and tried to some work. I also went and tried to help her.
But everything was in a real mess. We could not do anything without our
dear mother.
The following day both I and my sister went school. That day I did not
even go to the playground. I was thoroughly disappointed. After school
hours, I came home with sorrow and anger.

Thanks god! My dear mother had come home. Father was happy, my
sister was happy and I was very much happy. My mother had completely
got cored.

My Home
Homes offer security and feel affection for human life and it is
one of the most important things. "An East or West home is the
best" is the saying and it is true according to my home,
because my home is the best place for me in the world.
We are a middle class family and my home also belongs to the
family background. The dining room is decorated well and it
has a soft, a refrigerator, a TV set and a dining table. There
are three bedrooms. One bedroom is using my grandparents
and others shared with my mother, father, brother and me.
The kitchen also organized well same as other places and all of
us helping to keep the home clean and tidy. We are sharing
household work and always considering for the needs and
comforts of each other. That is the top secret of the happy life
of my home.
There is a small garden around the home and one side is
facing a paddy field. It is very beautifying place and I am very
like to spend the evening in the home garden.
Our home is very busy and rushes in the morning, but we are
never forgetting to have our dinner together and it is useful to

keep the joy of the family.

My home offers affection, security and happiness for my life
and I am very round of my home.

My Last Sunday
Sundays generally have a fixed routine for the TV programs.
But last Sunday was different. On Monday I had two papers
-English and Mathematics. Due to unavoidable
circumstances, I had not been able to do any revision. So, I
had planned in detail how I would revise both subjects that day.
I had planned to get up early and had set alarm clock to wake
me up, but I got up very late. I had to skip through my lessons
in English to make up for the lost time. I was not really worried,
as I felt I knew it.
After breakfast, I started revising Maths. I got stuck in the third
problem. I was still trying to solve it when my uncle came with
his family. I had to go to the market. When I returned, I learnt
that the maid had not come. My sister was busy helping mother
in the kitchen. So, I had to help in lying table, doing odd jobs
and entertaining my uncle and cousins. I was free, only when
they left at 5 p.m.

I went to my room and bolted the door, so that I could study

undisturbed. By the time I really settled down there was a
breakdown of electricity. I was very upset. Mother advised me
to go to sleep and promised to wake me up, as soon as the
electricity came. As there was no current till late at night, all
went to sleep. When I got up, it was almost 5 Oclock. The
lights were on in all the rooms. I became worried and went
round to see what the matter was. I found every one sound
asleep. I tried to sit and study but I was so angry and anxious
that I could not concentrate. Anyway, it was to get up and get
ready.
Thus, the whole of the last Sunday was wasted. I could neither
watch TV and enjoy, nor study.

A Day Spent in Bed

I am a healthy person and never fall ill, whereas my brother is
often ill. My father, mother, grandmother, all are very careful
about his health and look to all his wishes. When he is not well
we all have to slow down the TV, switch off the fan, and keep
our voice low. One day when my mother work me, I did not feel
like getting up. I had slight headache. Mother touched my
forehead and said I had temperature. How happy I was! Now
everybody would have to do what I wish.
My mother brought milk and biscuits for me. She scolded my
brother for making noise. She asked my sister to switch off the
transistor. I felt very important-almost a lord, little did I, know
that this joy was to be short-lived.

Soon my temperature rose, I felt hot and restless. The

headache became severe. It was real troublesome. To make
matters worse, my favorite uncle dropped in. He had two
tickets for the movie I wished to see. As I was not well, he took
my brother.
The last straw on the camels back was when I saw the feast
mother had prepared for uncle. Everybody sat down for lunch.
They had such fine dishes while I was forced to take bitter pills,
milk and a little porridge. I cursed my fate!
Luckily by next day my temperature came down to normal. I
learnt a lesson of my life. I shall never let myself fall ill again.

My Friend
Man is a social animal. Where ever, he goes, he makes friends
but few are real friends. William is my real friend. He is of my
age and studies in my class.
William is quite tall, fair and healthy. He is an ideal student. He
is hard working. He listens to the teachers attentively. He is
good in Basketball and Table Tennis, the game I like. He is well
behaved and liked by all.

William is always ready to help me. Whenever I have any

difficulty in studies, he tries to solve it. He is good at
mathematics and I am weak. He helps me when needed. The
problems that I do not understand are explained by him. He
does not lose patience, if I am slow in grasping it.
In the evening we always play together. We visit each others
houses too. My parents like him very much. He has become
almost a member of my family. We discuss all problems in his
presence and at times consult him too. His parents treat me in
the same way.
When my brother was hospitalized, he stood by me and
shared my duties. A friend in need, is a friend indeed I am
lucky to have such a friend.

My Only Wish
I am not dreamer, yet I have my hopes and ambitions, and I
always strive to achieve the goal, that I have set before me.
Since my childhood, I have been very fond of reading books
and playing challenging game. My mother tells me that I rode
a horse, when I was only 8-year old, after I had seen a picturebook which contained a soldier riding a horse.

Again, at the age of 12, began to swim though my father scared

me saying that water was a friend, but a foe too. As a student of
secondary classes, I opted for swimming, and used to go to
the school-pool every evening for training. It was then included
in the Time Table.
Since I passed my Secondary Examination in second division, I
took to reading of good books, in addition to my course books,
and thus succeeded in securing 78 per cent marks in the
Senior School Certificate Examination from this year.
I now wish only to be a great scholar. I read book almost on all
subjects. Burning midnight oil is now very common for me, as
this would help me in achieving my objective of being a
scholar.
I have never liked, the job of physician, Engineering is Greek
to me. Business and Commercial line is just the thing which I
hate. Government service, according to me, is meant for the
mediocre. So, these ideas hardly leave any other opening for
me. I wish only to be a scholar and I am glad, I am trying hard
for the same.

My Summer Vacation
Our school closed on May 14. we had been planning how to spend the
vacation this time. There were many proposals. My parents wished to go to
our home town, and be with my grandparents for about six weeks or so. My

friends had a trekking expedition up their sleeves, while my classmate

wished to go to some hill station on an education-tour for which our classteacher had also given consent. I wished to avail of all three proposals.
First, I made my mother and elder sister agree to my going on the tour, with
my class and the teacher, as the railway concession was already allowed for
such journeys. They requested my father to postpone the programme to visit
the grandparents by a week or so. My father readily agreed and decided that if
I wished to go for the educational tour, I could join him later. He and my
mother agreed to go in the advance party to be joined by my sister and me
after my tour.
My friends agreed to go on trekking, after my return from both journeys, as the
weather in May was not conducive to climbing in hills, that too near Alps thus,
the three journeys were planned in the following order: Education tour in May,
home town trip in June and trekking in July, when the monsoon reaches this
part of the country.
My class-teacher had arranged for the railway concession for thirty-five
students and three teachers. We started on May 20 by Euro Express at about
2 p.m. reaching railway platform since the train stopped there a couple
minutes, that being a big railway junction.
we enjoyed our three-day stay in Paris very much. There we got our rooms
booked in a lodge on Thomas street. We had boating in the nearby river four
time. We went to different places. We returned on May 25, very much
refreshed and happy.
My father had booked our seats by Air France on June 2. I along with my sister
went to this journey as already decided and reached home town on June 3.
from there we had to motor down to a town nearby. We stayed with our
grandparents for the whole of June.
Returning in July, we went on the trekking-trip hills and covered 20 kilometers
in a day. Rock climbing was pretty hard.
Thus, I spent my Summer Holidays very nicely.
