    1.4 Except 4 3/4 Drilling Jar, all others have the tapered thread, facilitating the
    disassembly and assembly operation.
    1.5 The Drilling Jar has a unique structure which can accurately transmit the torque,
    being suitable for drilling the deviated well.
    2. CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATING PRINCIPLE
    2.1 Construction
    Fig. 6-14 shows its construction.
    2.2 Operating Principle Of Up Jar
    Caused the Drilling Jar first to be in cocked position and raise the drill string
    which is then forced to accumulate the jarring energy and delay time under the action
    of a set of elastic sleeve. When the slip moves downwardly and predetermined jarring
    load is reached, the locking state is released and the middle mandrel of the slip slides
    out, producing upward jarring action.
    The process is released and the upward jarring action can thus be generated again.
    2.3 Operating Principle Of Down Jar
    Cause the Drilling Jar first to be in cocked position and lower the drill string
    which is the forced to accumulate the jarring energy and delay time under the action
    of another set of elastic sleeve. When the slip moves upwardly and predetermined
    jarring load is reached, the locking state is released and the middle mandrel of the slip
    slides out, producing downward jarring action. The process is repeated and the
    downward jarring action can thus be generated again.
    3. OPERATION
    3.1 Preparative Job before Tripping In
    3.1.1 After the Drilling Jar is reassembled, all connections should be tightened and the
    inner chamber is filled with the wear-resistant hydraulic oil L-HM32. The jarring load
    is adjusted in accordance with the actual situation of a well. Before used, the Drilling
    Jar must pass the surface jarring test.
    3.1.2 The Drilling Jar should be in the cocked position before tripping in.
    3.1.3 In drill tool assembly, the Drilling Jar should be connected at the portion of the
    drilling string which is slightly above the drilling neutral point and is in tension
    condition. To increase the flexibility of the drill tool and decrease its bending stress, a
    flexible extended shaft must be connected below the Drilling Jar.

    Where, the drill collar must have O.D. not smaller than that of the Drilling Jar and
    O.D. of the HWDP can not be larger than that of the Drilling Jar.
    3.1.5 After the Drilling Jar is included in a drill pipe stand, the clamp is removed and
    well kept.
    3.2 Operation
    3.2.1 When tripping in, the mud pimp should be run first to establish the circulation,
    then the drill string is lowered slowly, avoiding artificially downward jarring action
    due to lowering the drill string directly into the bottom hole. If the stuck accident
    happens during tripping in, the Drilling Jar can be activated to perform the upward
    jarring action for releasing the accident.
    3.2.2 During normal drilling operation, the Drilling Jar should operate in tension
    condition.
    3.2.3 When the stuck accident happens and upward jarring action is needed, the
    operation can be performed based on the following steps:
    Lower the drill tool until the reading on the weight indicator is 3~5 tons lower
    than the suspending weight of the drill tool above the Drilling Jar. At this time, the
    Drilling Jar returns to the cocked position. If the Drilling Jar is in the cocked position
    when it is lowered, the step is unnecessary.
    To confirm that the Drilling Jar has returned to the cocked position, a scale can be
    made on the drill pipe above wellhead and the drill pipe is then lowered by an up jar
    stroke.
    The drill tool is raised at tensile load G, generating upward jarring action.

    3.2.4 When the stuck accident happens and downward jarring action is needed, the

    operation can be performed based on the following steps:


    Lower the drill tool until the reading on the weight indicator is 3~5 tons lower
    than the suspending weight of the drill tool above the Drilling Jar. At this time, the
    Drilling Jar returns to the cocked position.
    The drill tool is lowered at compression load G, generating downward jarring
    action. Generally, Gsurface adjusted downward jarring loadbuoyant force in
    mudfriction drag due to borehole wallweight indicator error.
    3.2 Repair At Rig Site

    After the Drilling Jar has been used down-hole for a short time or has performed
    few jarring actions at medium jarring load, it can be repaired on rig floor.
    When the Drilling Jar is lifted out of the borehole, the mud attached on its outer
    surface and water hole is flushed, the fill plug portion is also flushed. Additionally, the
    chrome-plated surface of the mandrel is cleaned, dried, greased and protected with the
    clamp. Finally, both ends are protected with thread protector.
