Introduction
This document describes the business needs requirement for SDN 11 Mandongafor
a networking system whichhas the capacity to connect all the computers within the
school.
Only staff requiring access will be connected. The system will ideally be open to
expansion at later stages.
The document is written for use by Faculty of SDN 11 Mandonga.
Needs Assessment
Statement of Purpose
Currently the schools current system is using a TP-Link TD-W814N Modem Router.
It is currently connected at the front of the school. The Wi-Fi reach is very limited.
I am recommending the Asus RT-N56U dual band router to repeat the signal and
significantly increase the area of transmission. Ideally this set up will give working access to the
internet from their classrooms.
Additionally, the Asus RT-N56U has 2 USB ports. This will allow 2 devices to be connected. The
two devices recommended are;a printer and a portable hard drive;
Printer: The school is currently using one printer as the main printer. At
the moment, they have to physically tether their laptops in order to
print. By having the printer connected to the router via USB. This will
give teachers wireless access and the ability to print from anywhere in
the school that has wifi access.
Storage Device: Having a storage device connected to the router will
effectively create a network storage device for the entire network. The
network storage device will allow teachers to have access to a central
filing system. The filing system will contain teaching resources,
including (but not limited to); videos, docs, pdfs, pictures, sounds bites
etc. Teachers will utilize this system by copying from the resource as
well as contributing to it.
This networked system will allow the staff to increase their working capacity in a
multitude of ways. These include;
Audience
The audience for this document will be for the SDN 11 Mandonga. The design for
the network can be implemented for other schools with similar needs.
