The only 15 letter word that can be spelt without repeating a letter is
uncopyrightable. Now that I got the attention I needed, onto what really matters, Piggy.
Piggy is on level 2 which is taking care of his own safety needs and Piggy wants to get to
level 4, which is taking care of other peoples safety needs and helping others when in
need of helping. Piggy not getting voted to be chief had many reasons starting with no
respect from the other boys, and no belief that Piggy can make life better on the island
until they are rescued. Piggy wanted to do whats best for the boys if he were elected
chief, but now has no authority because the other boys dont believe or have respect for
him.
This started when Piggy wasnt voted for chief, and wasn't aloud to go explore the island with
Ralph, Jack, and Simon. Ralph said to Piggy You're no good for a job like
this(Golding 24). Jack turned back to him and told him We dont want you, said Jack,
flatly. Threes enough( 24). Ralph turned to him and said Now go back, Piggy, and
take names. Thats your job. So long (25). Piggy wanted to explore the island but was
denied to go by Ralph. Jack budded his way in to make a point so it would make Jack feel

like he is chief. Piggy went to go collect names but the little uns were running around
and made Piggy go in circles. Since Piggy is on level 2 he is concerned about his safety
needs, but wants to be on level 4 to be concerned for everyone's safety needs but hasnt
accomplished what he has to do for himself first, Adults are often not aware of their
security needs except in the times of a emergency, a breakdown in social order, or
economic stress (Maslow). Piggys needs that he is not aware of are more different then
society now, since they are stuck on a island and hes focused on being rescued then
helping himself think of way to be safe, instead Piggys thinking of ways he could be
believed in by the boys so he will be liked and maybe reconsidered as chief, although
Piggys good ideas could of saved them if Ralph never said that Piggy's name is Piggy,
and not have been laughed at.
Another time Piggy wasnt believed in was when they were voting for chief. Piggy was
the one who told Ralph what the conch was that had him elected chief, A stone
No. A shell. Suddenly Piggy was a-bubble with decorous excitement
(Golding 15). Ralph was engaged with the ...shell deep cream, touched here
and there with fading pink...and the pink lips of the mouth.. A slight spiral twist
and covered with a delicate, embossed pattern(16). Piggy was mesmerized when
he saw the shell and muttered Its ever so valuable(16). If Piggy never told
Ralph that the conch was a conch and not a stone, would Ralph be chief or would
Piggy because of all his good ideas? Would Piggys ideas get them rescued and
would life on the island be manageable and more controlled? When the conch was
blown by Ralph they saw A child had appeared among the palms Piggy helped

him up(17). The boys started to appear all over they were saying who is who and
whats their names That's Johnny. Those two- theyre twins, Sam n Eric
Im Merridew(17). After yelling and all the ruckus Ralph yelled Shut up(18).
It seems we need a chief to decide things(18) A chief! A chief(18)! They
started to vote for a chief, Jack started to protest himself, but then Ralph came in
and started to do the same thing. With intelligence that was shown was traceable
to Piggy, yet the most obvious leader was Jack. What stood out about Ralph was
...his size, and attractive appearance, and most obscurely, yet most powerful,
there was the conch(22). This is showing how Piggy was the most obvious
candidate but wasnt the size or appearance they were looking for, and because he
didn't have the conch. Piggy was the one with ideas for a society on the island
until they get rescued but nobody believed him or gave him a chance because he
is not the type of boy they want on charge.
The last situation Piggy wasn't listened to is in chapter 4, when Piggy had to idea to make
a sundial to know what time it is. They boys were sitting in the bathing pool and
Piggy started to talk I've been thinking, about a clock. We should make a
sundial. We could put a stick in the sand, and then-(64). Piggy was interpreted
by Ralph, And an airplane, and a TV set, he said sourly and a steam engine.
(64) Piggys idea would to have them know what time it is, but Ralph thinks that
he is contradicting, and is thinking the impossible. Maslows 4th level states
People also have a need for their achievement, responsibility, and status to be
recognized by others(Maslow). This is showing how Piggy wants to be

recognized by the boy for his smart ideas he has for life on the island, but the boys
think that Piggy cant do anything because he is not the typical boy. Piggys ideas
can bring him up to level 4 but the boys bring him down with disappointment and
disrespect and disbelief.
In conclusion Piggy should have moved up to level 4, and not have stayed at level 2, but
the disrespect from the boys made him not try so hard to be liked. Piggys great
ideas like making the sundial and moving the huts down to the stream for a better
living source, and using the conch to see who is on the island, shows that Piggy
would of been an amazing chief. So if Piggy were to do whats best for the boys if
he were elected chief, but couldnt because he has no authority because the other
boys dont believe or have respect for him. Would Piggy have been a good chief?
Would life be better on the island if he were elected? Would Simon have die?
