line from wheel cylinder Remove retaining screws
and remove wheel cylinder from back plate.
To disassemble, remove piston rod retaining pin
(7Fig, 221). Remove rubber boots (12) from ends of
cylinder, then push pistons (10) and piston rod (9) out
of the cylinder.
Inspect pistons and cylinder bore for wear, scoring,
pitting or other damage and renew as necessary. Install new seals on pistons and lubricate with brake
fluid prior to reassembly.
Reinstall pistons and rod in cylinder, aligning hole
in piston rod with locating pin hole in cylinder. Install locating pin and tighten to a torque of 11-19 N-m
(8-14 ft.-lbs.). Reinstall wheel cylinders and tighten
retaining screws to a torque of 22 N*m (16 ft.-lbs.).
Bleed air from brakes as outlined in paragraph 120.
POWER TAKE-OFF
The pto input shaft is splined into front clutch disc
of dual clutch assembly attached to engine flywheel.
The pto input shaft runs inside the hollow clutch
shaft and transmission top shaft. The input shaft is
connected by a sliding splined sleeve to pto drive
shaft, located in rear axle center housing, which carries the pto drive gears. Located directly below pto
drive gears are pto driven gears carried by the pto
output shaft. All models may be equipped with either a single speed (540 rpm) or dual speed (540 and
1000 rpm) pto. Mechanical shift linkage is used to engage and disengage pto drive and also select speed
range (dual speed units).

1000 rpm gear (21), needle bearing (20), sleeve (19)
and front bearing cone. On all models, drive front
bearing cup (18) rearward out of housing bore.
To reinstall, reverse the removal procedure while
noting the following special instructions: Be sure that
double lip seal (29-Fig. 224 or 225) is installed first
into retainer housing (31) and that single lip seal (28)
is installed with lip facing toward front of tractor. If
output shaft, bearings or driven gears are being renewed, specified bearing end play of 0-0.1 mm (00.004 inch) must be set by means of shims (26). To

131. R&R AND OVERHAUL. Tb remove pto drive
shaft (9Fig. 224 or 225), first drain oil from hydraulic lift and transmission housing. Remove operator's
seat and base plate. Remove hydraulic lift housing as
outlined in paragraph 142. Remove pto output shaft
as outlined in paragraph 130. Remove bearing retainer cap screws, then pry retainer (15) with drive shaft
rearward from housing.
Remove slotted nut (14), washers and shim (12)
from rear of shaft. Remove snap ring (3) and washer
(4). Drive bearing retainer with front bearing (11) and
1000 rpm (dual speed models) drive gear (5Fig. 225)
forward off drive shaft. Remove snap ring (7Fig.
224 or 225) and needle bearing (8) from front of shaft.
Inspect all parts for excessive wear or damage and
renew as necessary. When reassembling, heat bearing cones to 80 C (175^ F) prior to installing on drive
shaft. Tighten slotted nut (14) until bearing end play
of 0-0.05 mm (0-0,002 inch) is obtained. When bearings are correctly adjusted, bend tab of lockwasher
(13) to secure the nut. Install drive shaft assembly
in rear axle center housing and tighten bearing retainer cap screws to a torque of 21 N-m (15 ft.-lbs.).

needle bearing (2) from front of drive shaft. Prj oil
seal (12) from retainer (14).
Inspect all parts for excessive wear or damage and
renew as necessary. Install a new oil seal in retainer,
and lubricate seal lip with grease. Heat bearings to
80 C (175 F) before installing onto shafts.
If drive shaft and/or bearings are being renewed,
bearing preload must be adjusted by installing appropriate thickness shim (5). To determine correct
shim thickness, position drive shaft without outer
bearing in differential housing and measure distance
(AFig. 227) from rear face of housing to shoulder
of drive shaft. Measure thickness (B) of rear bearing
shafts, first drain oil from transmission housing. Unbolt and remove bearing retainer (14Fig. 226) and
rear cover (13). Withdraw pto output shaft (10) with
drive gear (9) and pto drive shaft (4) from axle center housing.
Use suitable puller to remove bearings from output shaft and drive shaft. Remove snap ring (1) and

cup and cone. Measure distance (C) from mounting
face of rear cover (13) to bottom of counterbore in
bearing bushing (7). Add measurements (A) and (B)
and subtract the total from measurement (C); the result plus 0.1 mm (0.004 inch) is required shim thickness (X) to provide recommended bearing preload.
Install correct thickness shim and rear bearing cone
onto drive shaft. Position drive shaft assembly and
output shaft assembly in differential housing. Install
rear cover and tighten retaining cap screws to a
torque of 40 N-m (30 ft.-lbs.). Install seal retainer and
tighten retaining cap screws to a torque of 29 N-m
(21 ft.-lbs.).
