    Chapter II UNIT ii
    AIMS OF GUIDANCE PROGRAMS
    1. To provide services which contribute to a realization of potentialities.
    Most individuals are aware of their desires but are unable, without
    assistance, to understand them or see their fulfillment.
    2. To provide teachers with encouragement and stimulation toward better
    teaching. Guidance programs should provide incentives to teachers to
    be more effective in discharging their duties. Students will benefit from
    these with the end of the result.
    The guidance program may provide encourages and
    stimulation through the following ways:
    a. Taking personal interest in each teacher.
    b. Recognizing, commendable work and worthy efforts of teachers.
    c. Discussing with teachers problems incident to their teaching.
    d. Providing teachers with information about students which may
    prove helpful.
    e. Making suggestions on how to assist students who may be
    experiencing problems.
    f. Giving teachers the benefit of a guidance point of view by
    demonstrating how this philosophy might make teaching a happier,
    more satisfying experience.
    3. To provide teachers with technical assistance.
    The assistance that a guidance counselor may give to teachers
    are as follows:
    a. Selecting, administering and interpreting tests.
    b. Selecting and using anecdotal and other kind of records.
    c. Providing leadership in the development of philosophy
    d. Providing vocational information and suggesting appropriate
    exploratory tools.
    e. Providing leadership in promoting and conducting in-service
    training.
    f. Providing help and suggestions relative to counselling techniques.
    4. To contribute to the mutual adjustment of students and the school.
    Rights are accepted and responsibilities assumed in an atmosphere of
    respect. Guidance has a collective needs of student is essential.

    Teachers and counselors must be alert in order to identify and


    ascertain student needs. Thus, a major contribution of students is that
    making intelligent use of the schools resources and working toward
    greater accomplishments.
    5. To identify students with developing problems. The guidance service
    provides for the prevention of school-related problems and aids in
    providing remedial assistance. Remedial services suggests the
    presence of problem which a typical teacher may be unable to handle.
