ASSIGN 2 Dynamics 2016

1. The force in the cable pulling a 300kg bar over rollers at t=5s is calculated, given the motor pulls in the cable at a rate of 0.4t^2 m/s. The distance the bar moves in 5s is also determined. 2. The speed of a 20kg crate subjected to a constant 100N force is calculated when its position is 25m, given its initial position and speed. 3. The common velocity after collision is determined for two cars, one weighing 22.5kN traveling at 1m/s and the other weighing 15kN traveling at 2m/s in the opposite direction, assuming no braking during collision.

ASSIGNMENT 2 DYNAMICS BDA 20103

1. The 300kg bar B, originally at rest, is being towed over a series of small rollers.
Determine the force in the cable when t =5s, if the motor M is drawing in the cable for a
short time at a rate of v = (0.4t2)m/s, where t is in seconds (0 t 6s). How far does the
bar move in 5s? Neglect the mass of the cable, pulley, and the rollers.

2. The 20kg crates is subjected to a force having a constant direction and a magnitude F
= 100N, where s is measured in meters. When s = 4m, the crate is moving to the right
with a speed 8m/s. Determine its speed when s = 25m. The coefficient of kinetic friction
between the crate and the ground is k = 0.25 and the angle = 30.

3. Car A has weight of 22.5kN (2250kg) and is traveling to the right at 1m/s. Meanwhile a
15kN (1500kg) car B traveling at 2m/s to the left. If the cars crash head-on and become
entangled, determine their common velocity just after the collision. Assume that the
brakes are not applied during collision. Given VA = 1m/s and VB = 2m/s.

4. The two disks A and B have a mass 3kg and 5kg, respectively. If they collide with the
initial velocities shown, determine their velocities just after impact. The coefficient of
restitution, e= 0.65. Given that VA1 = 6m/s, VB1 = 7m/s and = 60.

5. A pitching machine throws the 0.5kg ball towards the wall with an initial velocity VA =
10 m/s as shown in figure below. The angle of = 30 and the height b = 1.5 m from the
ground level. Determine (a) the velocity at which it strikes the wall at B, (b) the velocity
at which it rebounds from the wall if e = 0.5, and (c) the distance s from the wall to where
it strikes the ground at C.
