Steel quantity by thumb rule
How can we get the steel quantity by thumb rule ? I know that it is 1% for slab
and 2-3% for RCC column & beams. If I have 10 Cum RCC work for column &
beam then how can we get the steel quantity in kgm or Qntl.?

For RCC Beam & Column need 2-3% steel, say 2.5% steel.
So, for 10 cum RCC =102.5%=0.25 cum steel. =1962.5kgm. Steel. [I know 1
cum steel=7850 kgm]
For, 1 cum RCC =1962.5/10=196.25 kgm. Steel.
So, we are using 196.25 kg steel for 1 cum.RCC work in column & beam.

so first 10cum converted into CFT that is 353.10(10/0.02832)=353.10 Cft x 7
lbs/Cft =2471.70 then convert in to Kg so =1121.16 Kg is the answer.so in
10cum qty of concrete required 1121 kg steel.

we use 2.5% of steel for column and beam.so for 10 cum of concrete = .025 x
10 =.25cum. 7850kg( vol of steel) x.25 =1962.5kgm

We have a formula for that i.e is D^2/162
Where D is Diameter of the steel bar
for example: I want 10m length ,one bar having 8mm dia bar weight
then calculcate by using formula 10*1*8^2/162=3.95kg/m

Typical reinforcement weights needed for ordinary works:

Slab & staircase-70kg/m3

Beams- 110/m3
Columns & Concrete wall - 150kg/m3
Concrete foundation- 130kg/m3

When steel quantity is 2.5% for R.C.C. beam and column, we know 1M3
steel=7850 kgs
For 10 m3 RCC work for column & beam then we can get the steel quantity is
1962.5 kgs.
